I was diagnosed with GD about 2 weeks ago and have been tracking ever since. It definitely seems like if I can keep my diet in line, I can keep my numbers in line.
Are there any uncomfy side effects to insulin? Or metformin? I'll take it if my doctor insists but from what I can tell, I don't think I *need* it (and I don't want to take it). I guess just planning how much I should back if they suggest it. For reference, I don't trust my doctor and they have not been helpful during this diagnosis. So I'm challenging myself to do my own research instead of blindly listening to them (not a norm for me).

Following as I'm planning to pushback after a bad 4 days of fasting numbers. Managed to get it back under control now but worried that will be enough to get them talking about meds

As you progress through pregnancy, GD can worsen. That’s why you may need medical intervention (metformin or insulin) further down the line.
Insulin is fine, it’s just that there is the risk of having a hypo. If you’re in the UK, you have to tell the DVLA if you’re on it more than 3 months. You also have to test your blood sugars before every drive to make sure your levels aren’t too low otherwise it’s not safe. You also need to inform your insurance. Now none of these things are side effects but it’s fecking annoying.
However, it’s less annoying than the knowledge that my baby could be at risk if I let my GD run free.

I didn’t have any side effects from taking insulin. I was definitely nervous but my doctor reassured me that insulin doesn’t pass through the placenta so no effect on the baby and fewer chances of side effects for me versus metformin
