I referred myself as pregnant 1 week ago and haven’t heard back regarding booking in my 12 week scan yet, how long is the wait usually? I’m traveling to Hungary (my home country) in July when I am 12 weeks and 5 days for 2 weeks so I would need to have the 12 week scan beforehand. Do you usually have a say on the appointment day or do they just assign it to you? I’ve read that it can be anywhere between 12 and 14 weeks… but for me it needs to be within 5 days window before my holiday.

My personal experience all three times I’ve been pregnant. When you do your self referral they will book you a date to see a midwife around 8 weeks pregnant which they will do routine blood tests, ask you lots of family history questions and about your health and from that point you’ll get a scan date for the 12th week of pregnancy.
You can certainly talk to your midwife at that appointment and they will talk to you about the best available options and timeline.
I hope this helps, purely based on my own experience and nothing set in stone.

I self referred last week and I've been sent my initial booking appointment with the midwife and my 12 week scan dates. Like any appointment you can just ring them and say you're out of the country and ask if they can move the appointment. There is a fixed window they want to do the scan in, but it sounds like you would have some dates available. I had to move my dating scan in a previous pregnancy and it was fine.
