Should my toddler be forward facing now?

My husband thinks he should still be rear facing but I think he needs to be forward facing now because he’s tall and it’ll make it easier for him to climb in his seat plus easier for me to get him in and out. He will be 2 June 25.

I plan on forward facing my toddler a little after he turns 2 in December.

I did the same with my oldest. He was forward facing a little after he turned 2 in October.

Rear facing is the safest position so we dont plan on switching to forward facing till 50 lbs, as our seat manufacture limit for rear is 50 (most are 40).
The place we had check seat installation before birth had a little class offered and the instructor said it is ok if their legs are long. They can figure out ways to be comfortable. My child is 27 months now.

Rear facing is by far the safest option. I’ve bought my child a rear facing seat to last until he’s about 4-5. The safety factor is the only reason I’m doing it, I’m sure it’d be easier for my son to forward face but it’s so much safer and lowers the risk of internal decapitation or a broken neck in a crash because of forward facing too soon.

Just because it's easier for you doesn't mean it's safer for them. Research rear facing and internal decapitation.
My son would still be rear facing if the headrest of his car seat didn't break (completely my fault, waiting on the replacement piece). He's 3.5.

What Ellie said. I’m surprised at how many people are ignoring the safety factor of rear facing for practicality

Don’t plan on moving from rear facing anytime soon, hopefully we go past 4.

Being tall, being able to get in the car independently or making it easier for you to get him in or out etc honestly aren’t reasons to consider moving to forward facing, IMO. Safer to rear face when they’re still so young, tall or not. My eldest is 5 and rear facing still, I won’t change my toddler (2 and a half nearly) to forward facing for at least as long.

“Easier to deal with” as an excuse to forward face way ahead of time baffles my brain.
Read facing keeps babies alive in an accident.

I accidentally put yes , but I meant to say no my son will be rear facing until at least 5 so much safer if we was to be in an accident

Ease shouldn’t sacrifice the safety of your child

He’s fine. My son stayed RF until 4.5. He crossed his legs

Avatar

His legs are fine and he’s nice and safe, just google images of ERF legs, watch your kid sit on the floor or the sofa. They sit in all sorts of positions comfortably.

In the UK at least, there’s never been a reported leg break from a rear facing toddler but there have been internal decapitations of forward facing toddlers. Their skeletons cannot withstand the collision forces, it’s like insane whiplash launched forward rather than their neck and spine scooped into the bucket seat.

I would continue rear facing if I could but my daughters seat is too big to fit rear facing in our car😭 she’s 2 1/2

Avatar

the biggest thing is safety. the safest way for a child to be is rear facing until they’ve maxed out height and weight for their car seat in the rear facing mode. check your specific seat and go by that.

Avatar

No not at all. rear facing till minimum age 5, 110cm and 18kg

Avatar

It is safer to have them rear facing for as long as possible. I know it seems easier but for your own peace of mind in the long run, rear facing certainly will be better ❤️ xx

My son is 4 in July and he is rear facing.

It’s safer to rear face and max the seat out before switching.

Rear facing as long as possible. My 2 years, 8 months is still rear facing and we plan to keep it this way for as long as he accepts it.

Long road trip with baby and toddler.

Has anyone ever done a road trip with their partner and small kids? I’m stressing about everything. Like should I thaw out my breastmilk ahead of time and store it in my insulated water bottle I use just for bm? Should I use our car mini fridge? Just I just nurse her when we stop. I have to feed her only when we’re stopped anyway bc I’d never feed her in her car seat and risk her choking without being able to pat her back. But should I bother bringing the last bit of breastmilk my husband feeds her with? She’s EBF except during my husbands shift at night or if I’m sore from nursing all day I might give her a bottle. She rarely takes it from me anymore. Also how to keep my toddler entertained? I got him a busy board but I couldn’t find one without small pieces so I’d have to give it to him with all the pieces stored away. (It still has zippers and stuff. I know they’ll sleep long but it’s a 22-24 hour drive (We’re moving fromMD to Texas and basically taking 2-3 days instead of driving for a day straight )

Sleep troubles

Hello, my little girl is almost 19 months. For the past month we’ve really been struggling with her sleep and it’s just getting worse. She wakes up crying and no matter what we do the crying gets worse and worse. She won’t even be cuddled or rocked or patted back to sleep. She will struggle and scream. We’re up for hours at a time with her. I just don’t know what to do. Last night she was up from 11:30-1:30 then 3:30-5:30 then I’m up with our toddler at 6. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to help? Also she’s recently been weaned from breastfeeding in the past couple of weeks and she is getting her upper molars. I know these things will be part of it x

When did you stop using your baby monitor?

Hiya ladies,

Am pregnant with baby number 2 who is due in August 2026. My toddler will be 2 years 2 months when they're born.

By the time baby will need their own room with a monitor my toddler will be near-ish 3 years old.

Wondering when you stopped using the baby monitor to check on your toddler/child?

At this point I've accepted I'll need to buy another one but I'm curious when it seemed unnecessary for others!

Thanks :)

Am I wrong for not offering my baby a dummy?

I always said I didn’t want my baby having a dummy because I knew kids in school that still had dummy’s and heard parents talking about how hard it is to get their children to give the dummy up. So in my head I thought well if she never has a dummy that won’t be a problem right? But my baby is now 3.5 months and I keep seeing things about dummy’s reducing the risk of sids but I still don’t want to offer her one through fear of her becoming reliant on it.
So am I a bad mum for not giving her a dummy?
