Is it illegal to be paid $13 an hour for work meetings when the minimum wage is $15.45 (in Tucson). I am a CNA. They use a point system for my patient visits and hourly for meetings. Please explain in comments

The state and federal minimum wage is different. Honestly I don't think we need a minimum wage system because employers get away with lower wage this is why we have the tip culture we have in this country... We need to pay people fairly and give them a living wage...

I mean. That doesn’t seem right or legal. Our minimum wage is higher than the federal minimum wage is. But state law means they can’t go by the federal minimum wage.

Your entire pay (patient visits & meetings) divided by your hours worked should be $15.45/hr. If it’s less, your employer should pay the difference.

@incognito if you are getting paid more than the federal minimum wage the department of labor won't bat an eye at your case. You could try going to your state designer of labor if your want them to look into it but if you do you might lose your job...kinda like bringing up a workman's comp case is a death sentence for your job too.

I’m a CNA. If I have to go to a meeting, I’m getting paid the same hourly as if I was working a shift or I’m not going to the meeting. Always been that way. Agency travel or staff. PRN or FT. Union or not. Up and down the east coast at least.
