I would hand expressing colostrum from 37 weeks onwards (ask your midwife to clear you for this and also provide syringes). This means of there are any significant challenges or you are not able to feed your baby immediately for whatever reason the hospital can give your colostrum instead of formula. You can also use it if you have any matching challenges by putting a drop on your breast to help encourage latching.
I can also recommend taking a breastfeeding class through the Baby Academy online - you get invited to lots of free classes if you are signed up to Your Baby Club. I did lots of online classes for free with them and you don't have camera or microphone on or anything so you can do it with kids around or in your jammies etc nobody will know or care 😊

My other tip would be to persevere if you have challenges and allow both yourself and your baby grace, it might be really easy and straightforward or you might have challenges but don't give up on yourself too easily or quicky, that being said, if you decide to switch to formula that is also fine and don't give yourself a hard time over it. Good luck with your journey and rest of your pregnancy! 😊

Not silly at all! I would definitely check with your hospital but they typically have a fridge in which to store it. I froze it and was quite lucky I had around 23 syringes and a bit in breast milk bags (kept running out of syringes) before I went into labour but my baby was also very comfy and didn't want to come - I was induced and he ended up being born at 41 weeks. I took around 13 syringes into hospital with me and transported them in the thermal compartment of the changing bag to trap the cold as much as possible, then gave it to them to go into the fridge. Make sure your NHS or Hospital number and name is on the bag they are in (I just put my syringes in a breast milk storage bag). I ended up not needing them so brought them back home with me and could then still use them in my baby's bath as it is so good for their skin too. My little boy is now 3 months old and I still only bath him in breastmilk but I loved having a good store of colostrum to bath him in as it did wanders for his skin
