Hey everyone! I need some advice/ help 😂
So we’ve got to that stage where my 20 month old will have meltdowns if she’s watching something on our phones and we take it away from her. I know in the first place we shouldn’t give it to her but the reason why we have is because we’re out in a restaurant and she’s just moaning and it makes me feel guilty for other customers in the restaurant. I have tried books, colouring/paper, toys etc etc but she’s not interested in that, just wants to watch something 😖 she also won’t eat dinner (even at home) unless she is watching something which is a bad habit we’ve got into and we’re trying to get out of it, any tips/tricks/ help/ advice would be very much appreciated! 😂😩

Honestly I’d say just take it away, it’ll be really difficult at first and you’ll probably wanna rip your hair out lol, but I think the best way is explaining to her that because she kicks off she’s no longer allowed the phone (she’s a little young so you’ll probably have to tell her every time she starts having a tantrum as she probably won’t remember your reasoning) and don’t give in she will eventually give up lol, it’s just waiting it out and dealing with the tantrums for possibly a few weeks

I'd go cold turkey at home I think. Or you could try putting some music or something audio only on as a bit of a distraction. We have a yoto player which my LO loves so could be worth a try!

Cold turkey - it will only get worse. I'd do research on screens (especially small screens) and kids and it will give you the motivation to do it. Im not anti screens we just have only TV x

We go through phases at home sometimes we use screens way too much and others we go days without any. We have definitely noticed that the more he watches screens the more he demands them and the more dependent he becomes on them. They also stop working so well as a tool and his behaviour overall gets worse. When we pull back its bad for a day or 2 but then we get our lovely boy back and he doesnt constantly demand them. We try to limit him to a few low stimulation shows on TV, no tablets or phones. Id try to go cold turkey for a few days, a week if you can handle it and then you can reintroduce in a controlled way if it feels right. Music helps, playing outside, sensory activities etc. As for eating we just eat all meals together and i chat to him and i try not to harrass him about his food, its on the table he can eat it if he wants. We also look at family photos on my phone rather than a youtube video.
