I feel like I am doing something wrong. I see all these posts on social media with good day/bedtime routines and I am finding it so hard to establish one. My baby will only contact nap during the day and is incredibly fussy in the evening and ends up sleeping on me from around 7:30-8pm on a night then goes into her bed at around 10pm but I just feel like I should have a solid routine on an evening but I have no idea how to do this. FTM, just trying to survive!

I was the exact same as you! Please don’t worry, you’ll naturally fall into one which suits you best! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. She’s still so little. Feel free to message me x

I’m STM and I’m the same, no idea what I’m doing or what routine we have 🙃 I thought I’d have sorted something remotely out by now 2 months in, but no 🥲 don’t worry about everyone else, a routine will happen I promise, you and baby will naturally fall into one at some point and it will work for both of you x

Same hun. We are just going with flow with our little one, following his wake windows and naps and going by what he wants to do. Means we are getting up, napping and going to bed at random times. We are starting to see some behaviours which seem to be forming like he seems to want a longer nap in the morning/early lunchtime. But it isn’t the same every day.

Hey hun mother of 3 children here my eldest who is nearly 14 years old was the same. I ended up co-sleeping until he was 2 years old was difficult becus I wanted him to have a better sleep routine but to be honest I feel like it was comforting for him to sleep with me and so much easier. Fast forward I now have a 1 year old day who is literally the same she wake up in the middle of the night asking to sleep
In my bed and tbh I just let her then when she’s actually asleep I’ll put her back to her bed. It is difficult when you compare routines to others but my advice is do what’s best for you. And from experience they definitely grow out of it some sooner and some later than others but end of the day they do. ❤️

Hey, please don't worry about this! Some babies are great sleepers, some babies are great at adapting to a routine early, some babies just go with the flow. We didn't really get into a bedtime routine until around 4ish months, as his sleep was just so unpredictable and it felt silly doing a routine knowing he'd be awake 45 mins later. Same goes for naps - they were really unpredictable for months so I just went with it and got him to nap when I thought he was tired instead of by the clock. He's 7 months now and a routine has become alot more stabilised. Just took us some time to figure it out together

Your baby is still a newborn. Sounds like you have a loose routine anyway by your description of the evening. It's normal for them to go to bed much later than you think so sleeping on you in the evening is normal

Oh you sound like you’re doing absolutely everything spot on to me! The push to force a routine etc is 100% a social media phenomenon and comes from the states where they’ve got to be back at work etc. Don’t feel pressured to change anything, especially if it’s roughly working for you - baby will fall into their own routine. We probably found ourselves with a ‘proper’ bedtime at about 4/5 months x
