Has anyone else been scared to go out with your baby ?

My baby girl will be 6 months old this week.

When she was almost 5 months, I took her on the train for the first time. I didn’t realise there was an event on that day, so it was absolutely packed with loud music, people talking and laughing.

She got so overwhelmed that she cried uncontrollably the whole journey. I couldn’t calm her down at all until we got off the train.

Since then, I’ve been so anxious about taking her anywhere that involves the train or the Underground. I think the experience really traumatised me.

Has anyone else been through something similar? How did you overcome that fear?

I took my LO on a 2.5 hour journey by train when he was 3 weeks old. The level of anxiety I had into the lead up of taking him and also on the day was severe.
The journey went much better than expected. Just remember you are their mother and they will always find comfort in you, even if it means carrying them on you the whole way there or wearing a carrier on the train. When thrown into the deep end, you’ll know what to do!

I had loads of experiences like this when my daughter was a baby. Packed train, no one willing to give me a seat. Sat on the floor with a screaming child. Not pleasant. It gets loads easier the older they get, they’re easier to calm down and enjoy the train, especially if you get them into Thomas the Tank Engine books or something similar. In terms of your anxiety, easier said than done, but try not to let it get the best of you. Keep going out but just do baby steps to rebuild your confidence.
