I have a 15 month old who I’ve felt very close to and everyone would comment he’s a mummy boy. As of the last few weeks he’s changed towards me to the point it seems he hates me and I honestly think I’ll need to reach out for some sort of support as I’ve no idea how you tackle this in a young age. He’s become obsessed with his daddy and although Dada is the only word he can say he now say it with purpose. Whenever mg husband walks in my son’s face lights up, he crawls over so excited and will not stop saying dada. He babbles away and is so content. Laughs and smiles. With me it’s almost like he’s depressed. Very quiet, rarely laughs and getting a smiles like getting water out of a stone. I’m almost at a point of giving up as how do I parent someone who does not want anything to do with me. It’s starting to affect my mental health as I feel so rejected and all I’ve ever wanted is a child of my own with hopefully a really close bond and evidently that isn’t happening. I don’t know what to do other than stepping back and getting my husband to take over more

He's used to you and comfortable with you and daddy is rare and exciting to see. Try to reframe your thinking - your husband has spent 15 months being the least favourite parent, isn't it wonderful that now they have enough of a bond that baby boy is happy to see him too? Your baby doesn't want nothing to do with you, I promise. You're assigning grown up feelings and actions to a tiny human who just acts off of instinct. It's so normal children to be more excited to see the parent that they spend less time with. It doesn't mean they don't love their other parent. His favourite will likely change many times over the coming years and that's not personal against you, all you have to do is be consistent and loving no matter what. I'd recommend talking to your GP because it sounds like maybe you need some support. I mean this kindly, it just seems like you're spiralling over this and ready to give up after a few weeks of not being the favourite, it seems an extreme reaction to me.

So I wonder if there's something else going on with your mental health. There's nothing wrong with reaching out for help if you need it. Your baby loves you but he's going to love other people too. Like mine has tried to get back into nursery on a couple of occasions. While my instinct is to be offended I have reframed my thinking that it's great that she loves nursery and has had a fun day. It's not that she actually doesn't want to come home, of course she does! My husband works away a couple of days a week and my daughter will say "I want daddy", not because she dislikes me but because she wants him as well and misses him. I think that's a good thing, he worked really hard on their bond and I love seeing how much she loves him. I give these examples because you will encounter a lot of situations like this in the future so I'd try to address and work through your feelings about it now to help you be prepared.
