Working from home.

I am a single mum on universal credit, I don’t have any help from my child’s father. I’m thinking of going part time & working 2 days from home. I don’t have any family or friends that can look after my baby & no I don’t trust nurseries in the UK after the horror stories I heard but in general I just don’t feel comfortable leaving my baby with a stranger. I don’t want to hear any rude comments or any not supportive ones as it’s already hard doing it alone as a single mother. Only a single mother would understand that we have to deal with everything all at once, the money side of it too.

Do any other single mums work from home & how do you manage your day with baby around. If I had the choice I wouldn’t go back to work as managing a baby alone & a home & everything else is already stressful but we single mums have no choice but to make money 😭 UC pay doesn’t cover everything.

I completly get this. When I was a single mum it was the hardest decision and trying to financially balance things was hard AF.
It totally depends on the type of job you are going for and their policy about having children and if you would be able to do the work with a child around. I think it would also depend on the age of your child?

Personally what I did was send my son to a childminder when he was 1. It was still hard because at the time he wasn’t eligible for funding that came in a year later! I was paying out of pocket. However, eventually with the funding I could just about make ends meet…and I mean just about 😩I opted for a childminder as I got to know them and communication was 1-1 rather than a bigger nursery setting. It was emotionally hard, but the childminder really understood my fears esp being a single parent and updated me accordingly about my son.

I really hope you’re able to find a solution for you that feels good. It will get better x x

Unfortunately most UK employers won’t let you wfh whilst also looking after your children as it’s near impossible to do both at the same time 100%. My work will make me take unpaid leave if my little one is sick from nursery and I consider them to be quite a reasonable employer.
You could do it if you were freelance / self employed and could dictate your own hours, but not sure if that’s what you’re after.
As Mimi said, maybe you could look at a childminder as an alternative to a nursery and tap into your funded hours to cover that as if you’re working 16+ hours a week, you’ll be able to get the 30 hours. I know it’s not what you want but it might be the only option.

I’m a single mum so I get it, like Zoe said I work from home but couldn’t do my job and look after my 1 year old at the same time. Only thing I can imagine you could do would be freelance as mentioned. You could look at learning to do nails/ lashes for extra money but you need money and time to learn to do them ofc. It’s so hard out there and I get the not wanting to put them on nursery thing - do you know anyone who could watch them in your home while you work? I know there are travel “businesses” you sometimes see on here but their mainly mlm’s so probably not worth it x

Most contracts will stipulate when working from home you cannot have any caring responsibilities during working hours

Cuteness aggressive or just weird?

Yk the urge to eat ur baby bc they're so cute and u love them so much? Well I feel like that too but sometimes i feel like I wanna put him back inside me so I can feel those little kicks again and move around. Just that closeness and bond.

Basically missing being pregnant with him. But i think some ppl might say thats a weird thing to say especially with boy moms being sometimes classified as more than moms iygm.

I just love my baby bc hes so nummy nummy and I miss him so bad when he was tiny and could fit inside my womb and move around. I miss that closeness to my child and although id love another one to feel that again timing isnt right due sorting through relationship problems.

Feeling so alone

Hi! Just want to vent a little. I am an immigrant in the US (CA) and it is just me and my husband. I have a really hard time making friends and I also do a lonely job so it is already hard to meet people in person. I have a couple of acquaintances that I chat with but nothing more, they live all far away or have different lives. My best friend of 20 years (who lives on the other side of the world now but we always made do) abandoned me when I gave birth and texted me 4 times in 18 months. I think it is because she is childless and sterilized by choice and thinks I judge her? I tried to say there is no way I judge her at all, but we just grew apart. I am also having a rough patch with my husband started when we had the baby because he struggles to reconcile life with a toddler with what he want out of life and he struggles to accept that this is a season of life where we need to limit ourselves sometimes. He is the only person I talk to, if we don’t count the cashiers at stores. I have virtually no friends. Nobody I can open up to. My mom and sister are on the other side of the world. I talk to them but I limit myself because there is no point in worrying them when there is nothing they can do. I also have another baby on the way. I SO long for someone who loves me to sit by me on the sofa and just tell me about their day, drink a tea or just tell me that it is true, what I am doing it’s hard, and that I am not alone. Someone to pop by just to see me. I want my mom and hugs. Alas, I am alone. And I am so sad. I feel I will always be alone. It has been 8 years now.

What should I do.

Hi everyone. I moved to Colorado from Florida 2 year ago with my boyfriend of 6 years. Me and him were struggling within our relationship and ended up splitting up… he told me if I gave him another Chance things would be different. We got back together and I got pregnant, our relationship began to struggle again. He’s always struggled holding a job and smokes a lot of weed. I stopped smoking when I got pregnant and haven’t smoked since. He works full time and we have a 4 month old that is exclusively breast fed. I don’t work, I was a cam girl before getting pregnant and that did really well for me financially but I stopped when I got pregnant and I’m the primary care taker of our baby and do all the feeding and all the diapers pretty much. He occasionally will do one here and there. I’m having trouble keeping up with chores because my baby wants to be picked up so often. He gets overwhelmed with his job and crashes out about the bills and having to work and how hard it is commuting without a car daily, it’s pretty stressful but hearing him yell and complain about the same things daily when I’m also exhausted and overwhelmed is horrible. We sold my car to get here and have been without one which has been so hard. I contemplate camming to try to make money and help financially but my body has changed so much I feel horribly insecure about it but he tells me that I need to pitch in financially. I beg him for us to move back down to Florida where our family is and he refuses. He says he’s not going back there and idk what to do we have no friends and family here and I feel completely alone. :(

Because every day by a certain time like bath time hour dinner time I'm already losing my shit I'm like I don't even want my kid to touch me

I'm a single mom but I'm sure that any type of mom can relate to this but seriously three and a half year old what was it like for you how did you survive

I am not kidding when I say it's every single day that I'm overstimulated
