For 5 years I have kept my son’s hospital band and umbilical cord in a zip lock as a keepsake. I always kept it inside of his drawer however I just had my baby girl and they share a room together so I cleared one dresser out two months ago now and it’s been on my mind to put them into keep safe boxes. I did find my baby girls umbilical cord and hospital band but now I can’t find my sons. I’m scared that I have thrown it out. I don’t know how to feel. I am crying because I don’t want him to feel like I didn’t care about his even though that’s not the case and now I feel like I don’t even want to keep hers … i know this isn’t a “big deal” but I feel like a shitty mom.

Try to check if maybe it got stuck between the drawers or something. I feel your pain mama. I have three kids, and had to leave one behind during a domestic dispute and I felt like going back for it but the kids are safe and guess what? They love you very much regardless ❤️ don’t beat yourself up.

I'm sorry you're sad. I would be crying too. I think that's all you can do for now. maybe later when you feel better you can slowly look for your son's umbilical cord. if you can find it maybe you can find a different keepsake...? maybe a collection on baby clothes so you can make a stuffed animal?

I know kind of how you feel. I have 2 daughters. With my first, I did special things like make Christmas ornaments with her picture and a ribbon as long as she was with her birth stats written on it. I took tons and tons of photos all the time. When my second was born, she was so sick and it took years before things weren’t always crazy. Even now at almost 5 years old, she has one last surgery in October to correct a laryngeal cleft before she will be like other average 5 year olds. I know I have good reasons why I didn’t do that special stuff with her. I was so busy and so exhausted with all the hospitalizations and illnesses and doctors and regular rough nights of her vomiting all night from severe acid reflux. However, every time I see the ornament or the tons and tons of baby photos of my 1st, I feel so guilty and afraid that my youngest will feel like she’s less loved or less important. You’re not a bad mom! Don’t throw your daughter’s out. At least not until your sure his is

Gone. If you throw hers out and then happen to come across his, you might hate yourself even more. The fact that you care so much shows how much you love them. When they are grown, they will also understand if you only have one and explain what happened and how one being gone had nothing to do with love.
