MIL Bought a Cot for Sleepovers… But Baby Is Only 6 Weeks Old

My MIL has bought a cot for when our LO stays at hers. She’s only 6 weeks old.
I know it’s come from a good place and she’s probably just excited, but I can’t help feeling a bit uncomfortable about it. I think it’s partly because it feels like there’s already an expectation that she’ll be staying overnight, when that’s not something I’m comfortable with or planning anytime soon. I don’t intend for her to stay overnight anywhere without us until she’s at least a year old.
I’m also uncomfortable with the fact that the cot has a second-hand mattress. I’ve mentioned my concerns to my OH, but he tends to brush things under the carpet rather than address them, and I feel like that’s just storing up an awkward conversation for later - especially if MIL expects us to put LO in the cot when we visit or keeps pushing for sleepovers.
I genuinely appreciate that she’s excited and wants to be involved, and I don’t want to seem ungrateful. At the same time, I’m frustrated that it feels like assumptions are being made about our baby without actually asking us first.
How would you approach this? Am I overthinking it, or is it reasonable to set the boundary now rather than waiting until it becomes an issue?

I'm always a fan of honesty is the best policy!! I'm known for being pretty blunt so I've been sing co pilot to soften my words and make it a more constructive conversation.

I do think if it's an important boundary for you say it now, it stops all the internal questions on both sides.

Agree with the above, honesty is always the best policy. You could soften it to by saying I appreciative you providing a safe sleep space for lo when we visit but for the time being until we decide we’re comfortable lo wont be staying over night but also mention you’d like a new mattress and show the guidelines on sharing mattresses if it makes you feel better to back your words with evidence. If you feel boundaries need to be set then you can set them. It’s hard but I found saying what I needed to say was easier than the anxiety of waiting for it to come up. Your MIL likely is just excited - mine is the same and we’ve had to have a couple of discussions, which have all been really positive in the end. My partner is also the same as yours re the carpet.

Things like ‘oh that’s a lovely cot, she can enjoy sleepovers when she’s a bit older’ or ‘that’s a really nice idea for when she’s a year old, I’ll need to get a new mattress for the cot though if she’s going to take a nap in it because it’s safer for her’ or if that’s not the issue then ‘I’m not comfortable with that at the moment but I’ll let you know when it sits better with me’. I had to do this one with kissing her.

Not an easy one though, I know ❤️

Food shop, no car?

Hiya, I'm a FTM to a 9 week old baby and I do not drive.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do a food shop with the buggy (basinet or carseat).
Please can someone explain it like I'm a 2 year old 😂.
I am more than happy to babywear if thats part of the solution.
Asda have the carseat trolleys which I thought was a good idea (carseat clips onto buggy) but then I'd have nowhere for the bottom of the buggy to go, is there somewhere they'll let me leave it? 😂🤦🏻‍♀️
Wedging a basket on the pram while babys in the carrier is not cutting it anymore 😂

Sleeping

Hi, last night me and my newborn (2 weeks today) fell asleep last night and I forgot to set my alarm for 3hrs and we both slept for about 6hrs without her waking up to feed, usually she’d start getting fussy and start crying so I’d wake up anyways but she didn’t last night only woke up and started being fussy 6hrs later

I fed her and changed her nappy immediately she drank about 3oz and I feel so bad and am so worried , she seems absolutely fine but went straight back to sleep after feeding

Is she going to be okay? I genuinely feel so so bad and don’t know what to do, she’s gained 6oz since birth (weighed 4 days ago) and never lost any of her weight shed gained an oz by day 5

Putting baby down

My baby girl is only a week old, so I understand this post may seem silly!
However, during the nights, I’m finding it difficult to transfer her back to her crib after getting her back to sleep following a nappy change and bottle. She stays on me for a good 20-30mins (if not, sometimes longer) after her feed so I know she’s in a deep sleep. As soon as I move her to her crib, she wakes up immediately and cries. My heart absolutely aches for her because I love the contact naps, but last night I could feel myself nodding off with her on my chest so I know I can’t safely allow her to do it during the night. During the day she’s absolutely fine. Does anyone have any advice on what may help, please?
She hates the swaddle haha, my scent is on her sheet, I soothe her when I put her down…I’ve done pretty much all the tricks that I’ve read upon!
I know it may seem silly considering her age, but I’m thinking from a safety perspective and would appreciate any advice!
Thank you in advance :) x

Farts and poops

Men have woman on a pedestal. They look at us like princesses. You should never pass gas in front of your husband nor should he know when you go number two

Nappy sizes

My hubby is 6’5, I’m only 5 ft. We have a him size baby girl. Looking at her you wouldn’t think she’s over weight, she looks healthy but she’s a little chonk. She’s 10 months this week but I’ve had to put her in size 7 nappies. What do I do after this? What size nappies is everyone using? She’s half the size of my 6 year old boy, although he is a little short.

Very stressed and overwhelmed newborn mama

I'm really struggling. Baby is 4 days old and She wont really settle after a bottle anymore. She gets hiccups and seems to have lots of gass, despite doing slow feeds with breaks for burping. She will settle if shes being held only but We are both exhausted with no sleep and im meant to be recovering and resting from csection. But dont understand how I can do that as my husband needs sleep too and I'mworried for him. Im worried we mightbe so tired that we make a mistake and harm her like falling asleep while holding. And you cant fall asleep holding her as its dangerous. Ive also had a bad intrusive thought and that's really scared me 😭
