Tantrums - do you give in?

My son is throwing a paddy because I didn’t hold his milk for him (he usually holds it himself mainly with daddy) and he’s screaming and crawling into corners.

Do I just give in and feed him the milk or do I just leave it on the floor and wait for him to go to it. It’s been about 15 minutes so far. Sometimes I feel mean with him crying so much but don’t want to teach him that he gets everything he wants.

Why is parenting toddlers so hard 😭

Sometimes I have to allow space during a tantrum because we both can get frustrated: then after taking a moment then I come back to re address it

I’ve stopped giving in as that’s just teaching them that if they cry enough or hit then they will get their own way which isn’t a good way to teach them x

Don't give in now you've started, but I'd say pick your battles! If it's not a big deal, then don't make it into one

I hold the boundary but certainly after 15 minutes id intervene... after 5 minutes really. Get down on their level, open arms wide for a hug, see if they come over. Start reading a book or just rock hugging for a while. Our littles still need us to regulate their emotions. Its important to give them space to feel their feels but during tantrums i stay within l eye sight of my daughter and just say “i’ll be right over there when you’re ready for a hug.”

I teach her to use her words instead of throwing a tantrum. Sometimes the tantrum comes after I’ve denied her what she wants at the time. I reconcile with her and then she calms down.

So there is an easy way to tell the difference between a tantrum and a meltdown. Tantrums, you hold your boundaries and don't give in. Meltdowns are another thing - they mean your child has reached their emotional limit and are becoming flooded.

If he's screaming and crying but the screaming and crying stops as soon as you give him what he wants, that's a tantrum. If the screaming doesn't stop even after you give him the thing, that's a meltdown. A tantrum is a negotiation - they are in control, and it's a way of getting what they want. A meltdown is a fire alarm - you can't negotiate or reason with it, all you can do is respond and try to mitigate the damage.

Nope. We co-regulate and wait it out. Often if we don't make a fuss of it he is able to regulate himself pretty quickly and get on with it. If he wants to drink the milk then he can do so himself! If I say no I mean no, and I think holding myself to those boundaries (even when I WANT to give in and get him what he wants) makes me a more stable person for my kids and that they can trust me to keep my word, for both negative AND positive things.

Teenagers Working

Ok, based on another post I saw and now I'm curious.
If your teenager holds a job, at what age would you feel comfortable still calling their boss to complain about a scheduling policy that you disagree with? Or any policy that you disagree with?

could this potentially be her teeth ?

i might be crazy but honestly i'm not sure, her gums feel hard and she has been drooling a ton lately. she also has been getting super fussy and hasn't been eating as long / will refuse the breast at first. she has been eating her hand (but not in a hunger way) and will eat my arm, i am just very unsure.

Monsters

My 2.5 year old has suddenly started seeing monsters, everywhere, it started in the bedroom at night, still happens with a Nightlight and she still cosleeps so dont think its an attention thing to get us to stay with her as one of us already does. Then it started happening in the bedroom during the day, then the rest of the house, now out the window of the car when driving, and yesterday when we were in asda. She doesnt seem particularly distressed but it, with the exception of once when she walking into the kitchen and kind of yelpt in suprise then came and told me there was a monster in the kitchen. Im unsure what the correct action for me to take is, i know not to invalidate what she's "seeing", do i ask about the monsters, do i tell the monsters to go away? I dont really want her reliant on "monsters spray.

Mama stressed

Little rant but mainly looking for advice of any kind 😩
So my eldest boy is 6 and he is really struggling with his behaviour over the summer holidays he’s been so naughty and has constantly pushed buttons completely on purpose he claims he can’t control it and that his brain is bad however I can’t excuse or understand how he can do things like pour Pepsi all over his dads £1400 gaming set up because he ‘doesn’t like it’ or smash his tv out of anger coz a game wouldn’t let him play it how he wanted he’s constantly stealing things like chewing gum or snacks and then refusing to eat actual food and he’s shouting at us and telling us he hates us and we’re worst parents and he’s even gone as to far as attempting to hit his baby brother who’s 17 months old. Overall I’m at breaking point because this isn’t who he is yet it’s all he seems to be doing lately I’m heartbroken and feel defeated and I just want my boy back and to help get to bottom of this 😩😭

If your arrival time for your elective was 7:30am, when did you go into the theatre?

I know it's dependent on emergencies, just curious what time you were in the theatre if you were told to come in for 7:30am. Please even include delay times ❤️ also when were you told to fast from?

I just need to vent

So my daughter had a week and a half off from nursery recently (the half was due to her having a temperature and not being able to go and the week was because I had time off so we could spend quality time together).

She’s been back to nursery this week, has only been in for 2 days, and she’s already coming down with something and her temperature is starting to increase 🤬

She’s 2 years old and has been at nursery for 15 months already.

She was only ill less than 2 weeks ago.

And now she’s coming down with someone else!

I thought they were supposed to get better with not getting so ill the longer they spend at nursery? But she just keeps getting ill and it’s never ending!

We’ve both taken so much time off work. I feel like I can’t look for a new job because of constantly needing to be off with her when she’s sick and my husband can’t do it due to work commitments and lack of flexibility, I just thought this was going to get easier.

Why does she have to keep f’ing catching stuff!!

And then why are people continuously taking their sick kids into nursery?? It’s 2 f’ing days for peep sake!! How is she possibly ill already?! Such an f’ing joke!!!!!

Argh!
