GROW Scans

I just had a GROW scan at 32 weeks as my midwife referred me to it as the baby was just above the 10th percentile.

I don’t know why I feel so upset about the baby being small. I’ve always been very healthy and I think I’m doing all the right things and eating healthy and trying to rest and stuff and I know all babies are different and depends on your body and stuff. He’s a healthy baby just small but for some reason it worries me that he’s small?

I think its the lack of speaking or comments made by the people doing the scans like you ask questions and its all “yes/no, it’s normal” like is it tho?

I dont know if I’m overthinking it! Anyone else feeling a bit deflated about their own scans?

Yep. The tech not really being able to tell you anything is awful. Sitting in silence for the ultrasound is awful. My baby girl is in the 99th percentile and diagnosed with macrosomia which just means she's massive. I'm very worried about delivery.

My baby was IUGR, <1st percentile, it was scary at first but I ended up having a great birth experience, he's healthy and growing and today at 4 months noone could tell he was that small 😊 He was also born a bit bigger than they expected and didn't have to go to the NICU. Small babies are extra cute 🥰

You're not overthinking, you're just being a Mum! You're allowed to worry, but as long as the ultrasound isn't picking up any growth restriction concerns you should be fine. I had two SGA babies (5th and 2nd centile) and if it helps, the growth scans were waaaay off! Both of my babies were atleast a pound lighter than predicted, but perfect and healthy! Just small, and are still small 🥰

I've been having growth scans since about 20 weeks (37 weeks now) for my SGA baby and it can drive anxiety but if they're not concerned about what's causing it that's reassuring.

Have they discussed possible causes with you?

My first was also born small but he was fine.

I was in the same situation my boy was born on the 9th percentile and dropped to the 2nd he's now a perfect healthy happy 10 month old who's back on the 9th percentile he's little compared to most of our friends kids but he's way ahead developmentally! We didn't have any cause except me and my partner are both on the smaller size.

I had the same thing during my pregnancy, I’d get so upset every single time, firstly, he was born at 7lb 11, so a perfectly average sized baby despite them estimating 5lb!!! And secondly, small doesn’t = unhealthy/bad, I’m 5ft, was always the smallest child at school, and I am perfectly healthy. People get OBSESSED with big chunky baby’s with huge rolls but that isn’t the only picture of health. Small is still perfect. Easier said than done because it upset me too when they’d bang on about him being small, but Aslong as all the checks are ok (heart beat, flow from the placenta etc) being small is perfectly fine! X

The scans can be completely wrong. My little one was measuring just above the 10th percentile on all the scans. We had growth scans to. She was born two weeks early and was the 50th percentile at a healthy 7 pounds 3 oz.

You have to remember percentiles are just a guide too, 10th percentile just means a baby is 90% smaller then the biggest baby and 10% bigger then the smallest baby.

My first was really small as well. That definitely isn't the case now. He came out 2 ounces bigger than premie weight. They induced me early because of how small he was and explained that he is healthy but he can no longer get any bigger than he was and the longer I waited the more at risk his health was. I got induced the following Saturday. My first is now half my size and is very healthy he grows like no tomorrow he never even had much of a chunky stage because every time he gained weight he would spring up again. I wouldn't worry but I would file a complaint if the doctors were being mean about it good bedside manner is a key point for medical professionals its not okay to make you feel like this.

C section date

I got my planned c section date today, the consultant wanted to book me in for 39+2 but I insisted on 40 weeks exactly. I didn't want to give birth earlier than necessary and both my children were born 41 weeks exactly (1 spontaneous labour 1 induced). I'm just panicking a bit now I've only ever had emergency sections, how likely is it that I will go into labour early? Did I make the wrong decision should I ask to change the date. TIA

Jury in the LC trial

So the jury has been sent back in a deadlock. I'm so conflicted on my opinion about this case, I'm not sure she was in psychosis but don't feel the CW has given enough evidence that it's not a possibility. How/what sealed your opinion on the case? (If you've followed it).

I'm not even entertaining the idea that it was PCs fault.

First time pregnancy, when do you tell people?!

Just interested in knowing when is a good time to tell people you’re expecting. I’m 6 weeks 4 days. I’ve told my work bestie to get me through work, and that is it! Am I crazy? I’m worried to tell anyone else until I’ve had my first scan?
