Sleeping training - a must?

Anybody sleep trained using the Ferber method? How long did it take you? Any alterations to the method? A completely different method? Or happily feeding/rocking to sleep?

The big sleep training. Wow. My little one is 7 months and I just tried the Ferber method tonight and failed on the second check in. Well, dad did the first check in and the screaming that ensued, I just did not have it in me to go in and leave her again. I think it was a big ask to go from breastfeeding to sleep, to “so I’m just going to put you down and walk out the room now”. Dad was really supportive of whatever I wanted to do, but we both see the long term gain from this in her sleeping independently, which I’ve seen she’s capable of especially when it’s nap time. I’ve decided I’ll stop feeding to sleep initially, and then I’ll decide on whether I want to try to sleep train or not. Amazing in the long run, but in the moment I just feel so bad.

I did a couple weeks of gentle sleep training first to stop my LO feeding to sleep. We would go to bed feed, burp, change clothes read book and down in the cot. And pick up to reassure and after 3 weeks of that we made progress but she was still waking in the night so that's when we swapped to ferber and 2nd night in she didn't even make a noise before going to bed

honestly, i don’t recommend any form of cry it out method. there’s been lots of research into it and of course there are always pros and cons but from what i’ve read the cons for me personally outweigh the pros. if you want to you can message me as i’ve screenshotted some research another lady asked me to find for her. of course i try not to mum shame! you should always try not to do that but i always advocate for gentler methods on here and for mums to do full research into it so they know the decision that they’re making if they choose to make it. i say this as a mum of an 18 month old currently having to sleep on a mattress on the floor of her daughters room to support her sleeping and honestly she’s doing so well! so the other methods may not be as quick as CIO, but they are much gentler and less stressful on both parent and baby in the long run xxx

I would personally do it in chunks. Work on removing the breastfeeding association first, then next step say cuddle to sleep, then put in cot and pat bum for example. And so on over a few days/couple of weeks. I used a version of the ferber method much further down the line on my eldest which took inly 3 returns to the room for her to lie down and go to sleep. I just did one minute at a time x

We fed to sleep until 13 months when she was too big to put down asleep. So we switched up the routine, she had her bottle or boob downstairs before the bedtime routine. We put her down awake, added an extra story when she was in bed, and she put herself to sleep. Didn't cry, bit of moving around and chattering but that's it. I understand how people resort to sleep training when they're in a sleep deprived state and absolutely feel like there's no other option. But it's developmentally normal for babies to wake through the night up to 1 year old and often beyond. It sounds like you're just trying to break the sleep association rather than deal with a lot of night wake-ups? In which case I'd stop the feeding to sleep if that's what you want to do but I wouldn't use cry it out, I'd look for whatever else may support them to get to sleep with you there, shushing rocking singing reading etc.

Feeling so disconnected from my partner

Since birth 2 weeks ago, I have felt such dislike toward my partner. He is VERY supportive in terms of looking after our 4 yr old, doing loads round the house, seeing to baby whenever, taking lots of night shifts. I couldnt fault him AT all.
However emotionally/mentally I feel he doesnt understand and he is snappy with me, and I am feeling resentment toward him for unknown reasons other than the emotional disconnection
I told him and he said "im using birth and 9 months of pregnancy as an excuse" which really upset me and Im crying, but he just see's me crying or upset as nothing and "just hormones" and I get no comfort, nothing.
I cant see how we can go back to getting on atm, any advice?

Dummy suggestions?

My boy is 10 weeks and exclusively breastfed aside from 1 bottle of ebm in the evening.
He used to take avent soothies, nanobebe or avent air but lately has been refusing all of them. He has just learned how to suck this thumb too which I'd rather he had a dummy then suck his thumb because I can take a dummy away, but he has his thumb forever.
The thumb sucking started after the dummy refusal.
I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and found any spesific dummy swapped out well for thumb.
We've tried lots so I will reply to comments with a 💚 if we've tried them.

The car seat ☠️

Ugh, I’m gutted we’re going through this again, our first was the exact same!

Anyone else’s baby just scream the moment they are in the car? It’s horrific and I feel particularly bad this time because my poor toddler has to listen to it too!

I’ve tried Osteo, toys, transferring asleep (I can dream on😅). Absolutely nothing is working, she’s the same for the pram but I can deal with that and just use a carrier. The car however, is getting exhausting. I don’t want my toddler to miss out on outings because of this😫

Emotions

So I’m 3 weeks postpartum on Friday and my emotions are all over the place, I have cried everyday since leaving hospital and last night I was so angry with my husband I punched the chair in our bedroom and my hand is absolutely killing me. Today I am just not feeling it with anything I feel sad, I feel like I want to run away and never return. Anybody else feel like this
