I need advice! My husband is 36 and was diagnosed with autism less than a month before we found out I was pregnant. Also has adhd (which he has known since high-school). He/we self diagnosed him several years ago and have kinda always had suspicions but it wasn't official till this year. But this whole pregnancy I've been struggling with feeling like his new diagnosis, problems and changes are more important or like bigger than the changes im going through. I cant loose my sh*t, or get irritated, or experience really any pregnancy hormonal emotions that are irrational. And can only be explained through pregnancy hormones. Hes very literal, always has been, but now more than ever. He wants/needs an explanation for EVERYTHING and its exhausting. His anger has been a hot topic recently too. Hes never been abusive toward me. He just expresses anger very vocally. He doesn't scream in my face. But like makes angry grunts, loud huffs if that makes any sense. And basically says outloud everything his thinking. Making the other person feel like everything is their fault and they are responsible and almost like they did it on purpose. Even if their not at fault or it was an accident. Afterwards he will apologize and say he wasn't mad at me and just mad at the situation. But the damage has already been done and being pregnant and hormonal im usually crying. Which doesn't help anything. He claims I dont understand autism and what hes going through and how big of a life changing thing this is. And feels like I dont understand or support what hes going through because a few times I've mentioned that it feels like hes using the diagnosis as an excuse sometimes. I worry the way he processes anger will be confusing to our daughter and that a young child won't fully understand that daddy isn't mad at her. He says he just needs to freak out and work through the emotions when hes upset. But hes so vocal I feel like thats confusing for a kid.
Sorry, that was a very long rant. But if anyone has any tips on how to navigate a newly diagnosed autistic partner it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Does he not leave the situation while angry? Id honestly be suggesting some anger management or personal therapy for him. Im audhd and have anger issues. You cant let anger win, you can't act on anger, and you have to be able to understand words do hurt. Because you are right, it's confusing for kids and teaches them how to process their anger in unhealthy ways. Has he sought therapy on his own for this?

I saw a video once that explained why it seems after getting a diagnosis, symptoms seem to increase. It’s because the individual has been masking for so long that it is like, “oh ok, I have been doing this thing bc I was autistic.” And after that realization the masking breaks down a little. Now, this is NO excuse for bad behavior. Being autistic is not an excuse to be a d**k. Your emotions matter. And because you’re pregnant I would argue your emotions matter more. Every father’s emotions are important but I think a conversation (maybe with a third party, or maybe write him a letter explaining things. AI is awful, but it could help you explain how you feel is you type out everything and ask it to make a straightforward, intellectual letter to your husband. But with his new diagnosis, especially with it being hard for him, it would be a good idea for him to have a therapist if he doesn’t already. Some therapists offer sessions where a spouse can come in for a session and maybe that

The fact of the matter is that your husband was autistic long before the diagnosis. Therefore he was dealing with the same things he must now navigate and the only thing that has changed is a label. If he’s acting differently now then I would be questioning why. Does he suddenly think he has an excuse now?
Maybe I’m misreading? But it feels like you’re saying everything was more manageable before diagnosis so it’s either the diagnosis that’s the factor or the pregnancy (which happened soon after).
Now if it’s changes directly related to the fact that you’re pregnant, then you two need to have a conversation about how to manage his anger before your child arrives.

My husband has been a diagnosed higher functioning autistic for most of his life. He is also more literal, thrives on routine, and gets stressed with loud noise, etc. We are first time parents to our 12 week old daughter. The first few weeks postpartum were really hard for me emotionally. I already had a lot of anxiety around confrontation but I had to get used to having difficult conversations in love and respect. Autistic or not as the adult it is still his responsibility to regulate himself in healthy ways. If he is a verbal processor and you are struggling to help him meet this need, it is okay to ask him to find other support systems. Neither or you should be the other’s only person or friend to go to in times of hardship. You are both humans who deserve to have this emotional experiences validated. He needs to learn how to manage himself so that he can hold space for yours.

No no no!!! He’s still responsible for his emotions & how he responds when they overwhelm him. Yes, occasionally I or my kids might snip a bit, no different from my NT husband, but we do our best to go to our safe space so we’re not forcing others to deal w/our emotions on that scale bc their feelings matter too & if we want to be respected, we must be respectful. Once we can talk calmly, we come out & do so, we don’t use it as an excuse to be verbally abusive. I’ll be honest here, I’m not willing to spend a fortune to get diagnosed at my age, it’s incredibly difficult here & requires me going out of state & insurance doesn’t cover it, but it’s not as if it’s not obvious who our kids get it from, no matter how trained I am to hide it. I was born in the 80s, my brother was born in the 70s, so I wouldn’t be here if my parents hadn’t trained my brother, mom would’ve been sterilized & then they stuck to what they knew w/me & kept us from being labeled, jic, but we all know.

This sounds so hard, I’m so sorry!
Before I say this I want to make it super clear that if your husband is being abusive or trying to hurt you, get out of there. If the relationship has shown patterns of him using excuses to avoid accountability or dodge being there for you, get out of there—-this is just another verse of the same song!
But, if he’s a great guy (which I’m sure he is) and he’s just adjusting, you BOTH are the victims of some pretty poor timing! You are going through the hardest thing the human body can endure, and he is rethinking his whole life and how he reacts to things.
It’s you two versus these issues! I know it can be super easy to take these things personally but you’re on the same team! It’s just like having too many bills and not enough money in your bank accounts—you have to choose what to do with the resources you have now and then make a plan on how you’ll cover the rest. Then it’s patience!

I’m due soon and my first will be 17/18 months when their sibling arrives.
I’ve just had this HARD realisation about feeding. With my first we could spend hours sat on the sofa breastfeeding (especially in those cluster feeding early months). How on earth do I deal with my toddler when I’m trying to feed a newborn??
My partner started a new job so only has 2 weeks paternity and we don’t have any family close by. I’m sure my mum/mother in law can spend some time with us but I am panicking.
How did you mamas do it please!! 🩷

I’m having a boy. 💙 And honestly, I’m really sad and hurt about it.
I know some people might think this sounds immature or that I should just be grateful, and I am grateful. I love my baby already. But I think I’m grieving the little girl I had pictured in my head.
With everything I’ve been going through and all the pain and hurt I’ve experienced, I think a baby girl gave me something to look forward to. I imagined having her as my motivation to be strong, to do this on my own, and to start a new chapter of my life. I pictured the bond we would have, and I think I was holding onto that image more than I realized.
Finding out I’m having a boy brought up a lot of emotions I wasn’t expecting. And I feel guilty even saying that because I don’t want my baby to ever feel unwanted or unloved. He is wanted. He is loved. I’m just having a hard time adjusting to the future I had imagined being different.
I know one day I’m going to look at my little boy and wonder how I ever imagined my life without him. I know I’ll love him in a way I can’t even understand yet. But right now, I’m allowed to be sad too.
I’m not sad that I’m having my baby. I’m sad that I had to let go of the little girl I had already imagined in my heart. And I think it’s okay to admit that. 💙

So this past week our 5 month old daughter has bin getting up only ONE TIME in the middle of the night for a bottle and rocking back to sleep. (She is a easy baby it takes nothing longer than 10 maybe 25 minutes to get her down) well he’ll get up go get her from her grave and then I’ll go sleep on our couch and co sleep with her. We have a two year-old who also brought into our bed when he was younger because it was easier for him to do nights when he was in our bed.. I never wanted to co sleep I don’t like co sleeping its dangerous but im most afraid he is going to build up my daughter to be dependent on going to sleep contact you get me. I’ve told him over and over I don’t like you co sleeping with her bc he doesn’t even follow the safety 7 it’s dangerous and I think he’s being lazy. All he says is im going to do what gets me the most sleep. On another note tho he doesn’t bother me and lets me sleep he handles nights 85% of the time so I feel like I can’t complain either cause he doesn’t complain and is just trying to find something that works for him but idk guys I don’t feel like it’s safe the way he sleeps with her and I think she will eventually grow harder to put down bc of the contact sleeping at night.. he says well she stays asleep tho like yea no shit that’s why parents co sleep to get that rest but I just personally don’t believe in it I think it’s lazy parenting please don’t come at me for it but idk guys is my husband wrong or am I ? 😭😭😭😭😭😭😖

My baby is due in December, and I’m finding it difficult to know which wipes to start buying as there are so many brands to choose from. I’m not sure which brand would be best to start with.

Hi all, we are traveling to Majorca from UK with our 7 month old and was just wondering what everyone does about a car seat? We have a private transfer booked from the airport to hotel but won’t have a car seat for our son. We may also take a few taxi rides when we are there. What do people do??

2 under 2. Currently have the joie highchair but will need to get another soon when i start weaning baby & this one is bulky!!
I have been told to get 2 ikea highchairs as they are stackable. My toddler has chunky legs - can anyone provide pics of the ikea highchair with a toddler in lol? Or can anyone recommend a highchair that has straps and not the bit in the middle of the legs for my toddler?
The website only has pictures of a smaller kid in it.
Thanks !
