I am four months postpartum and this season has been rough. I got laid off from work, had a family death, lack of family support and things with my partner have been challenging.
My partner works and now I don’t but before that, while on maternity leave, I have been and continue to be the primary caregiver of our son. My partner absolutely helps with groceries and cleaning, however it’s not really truly incorporating me. To be more specific he buys the bare minimum and only when I ask does he bring in what I want as part of the order. At this point, I just let it slide but his contribution to the baby activities have been weighing on me. With everything going on I confided in him that I was feeling very overwhelmed.
Prior to pregnancy, I was never an anxious person. Now I have to breathe to keep from hyperventilating or rub my palms against my thighs to slow me down. I can’t sleep because my mind is racing in between pumping. I have no one to speak to besides my therapist who I pay for and worry about the bill.
With that in mind, this weekend, I sent a text to my partner, who was in the other bedroom, asking when he was going to take our son. We had discussed him covering weekends exclusively since I took care of our son primarily during the week. On Saturday, I woke up to the baby so I fed him at 7am and was rocking and playing with him. My partner woke up at some point and put clothes in our washing machine, which were his and the baby’s and took a call. It was 10am and I was getting antsy about being left with the baby again. I needed to apply to jobs and prep for an upcoming interview. He knew this. So I texted. He said he was on the phone.
It infuriated me because I have taken therapy calls with my son, did an interview with my son (not on screen) and so on. I said, it would be great if communicated so that I know what’s going on since it was already past “our morning.” He marches into our bedroom and demands that I do not micromanage him. I’m pissed! I yell that we just talked about this two days ago! I don’t want to micromanage but you don’t stick to what you say. (This comes after I told him on Thursday that I needed a break at 5pm. I told him at 1pm. 5:09 comes and nothing happens. No reassurance, no sorry so I placed the baby in the bassinet and went out for air. I watched on the monitor as he ignored the baby crying and it broke my heart. He finally came to the baby and I just thought to myself how can he listen to him cry like that and what about his colleagues?) Back to Saturday, the argument escalates and I’m with our son the whole time sitting on the bed. He moves from the foot of the bed is now standing over me and starts pointing in my face and yelling. I yell for him to leave the room but he doesn’t really listen and I throw a bottle at his foot to make him jump back. He finally leaves the room but not after trying to immediately come back but I had locked the door. We don’t speak and I take care of our son for that day and pas him over to him at 5pm. I go to the bedroom and lock the door.
The next day I have an appointment with contractors for work being done to my own apartment. I go and spend time with our son and then I step out. He knew about this appointment. I come back midday since I miss our son and to pump some more. I see that our son is dressed and I find it a little weird because he never dresses him outside of a onesie for bed. He is dressed too but I’m not really minding it. He says he’s going out. I say okay and hug our son. Hours go by and I notice they are not back. I text him, hey are you still on your walk because that’s what we usually do with our son. He tells me no, he drove and is there a problem. Literally those words. No explanation. I get mad and worried. I send a bunch of texts saying that I have never left the neighborhood with our son and not said where I was going. I felt like this was his revenge for the micromanaging bs. He knows I am anxious. He finally tells me where they are and says they’ll be back in two hours. I know the place and my anger switches to the fact that he could find the initiative to dress our son to go out and hang with his friends than the initiative for a doctor’s visit or when I have asked for us to go the park.
I told my mom what happened and she talked to him and only then did he apologize for the hand in my face but nothing else.
At this very moment, he has our son in the other room and I hear them laughing and it hurts me. Like this little boy doesn’t understand how hurtful and non-supportive his father can be. I feel alone because he ensures he appears to be the nicest and quietest person in public.
Today, he had the nerve to ask me to go to the park and said it was his plan all along. It was just that Saturday happened. I just want to scream, are you serious?! Do you think I am an idiot?! Instead I just replied no.
I think I’m writing this to ensure I am not crazy. I don’t have any girlfriends, I’ve always been an introvert, and I feel a little ashamed to keep speaking to my guy friend about the situation and hate that I had to speak to my mom. Just need a little support if you can spare.

No you’re not crazy. He should not gaslight you during hardest phase of your life. However, because you react thats what makes him feel..he won. If he can’t be empathetic stop expecting him to do stuff. Instead do whatever you can yourself and hire help. After hiring help ask him to pay as well for it considering he is not helping enough. Your body has gone through so much..stop blaming yourself. Just focus on your body, you and baby. Don’t keep your emotions dependent on his behaviour.

Parenting is so tough. On us, our partners, our babies..it’s tough all around. There is no easy way to it when lack of sleep is involved; different personality types, desires, love languages, etc. It’s just so dang hard to avoid hard times. I can relate to a lot you posted about partner not seeming to get what we need / not really focusing on our needs and seeming selfish (but mine literally needed me to word it out for him like so word-for-word “I need you to help with our daughter and for you to take some initiative without me having to ask for your help bc I don’t want to be having these weird convos with you and I don’t want to make you feel spoken down on but this is really important to me”)
Sometimes literally wording out loud “hey - this is really important to me - “ and then state what it is that you need him to hear. And to do so with as neutral and calm of a tone as possible so as not to come across as trying to parent them or whatever..I find it challenging not to use a tone

but also I seem to get through to him far more when I keep it lighthearted as possible if that makes sense? With still standing your ground. I’m sorry you’re feeling so alone and struggling. I am also an introvert and this shit isn’t for the weak of heart.

Girly I’m so sorry! Did your therapist mention you might have a tad bit off Postpartum Anxiety? Especially since you weren’t an anxious person before. But it’s totally normal and might not even be PPA because being anxious about your child is the most normal part of being a mom. What shouldn’t be normal is these men acting unsupportive and putting everything on us moms. I’m currently turning my bachelor-acting husband/bd into a loving husband and father who cares. Giving him chores and making him realize it’s not just my job and having him help with our two kids. It’s been a hard road but he’s finally doing things without me having to tell him
Her daughter whose in reception gets off at 3, her son at 4:30, she wanted to pick her son up at 3 so she wouldnt have to drive back at 4:30 and the nursery told her she couldnt do that and her son HAD to stay until 4:30. When she complained they said it was illegal for her to do that!? Is this right?

I keep seeing posts about MILs (rarely positive)
How they are horrible and nasty some are, and then how annoying and over the top the rest are… and I honestly I get it, some mother in laws aren’t angels 😅
But I’m terrified that one day some woman will think that way about me! 😂
Just me?🥲 #boymum

I feel really bad even thinking about it, but I’m really struggling with the idea of my parents in law taking care of our baby.
I adore my husband, and his parents are always super nice to me. However, I have always struggled with their cleaning and hygiene habits. For example, their toilet is often very dirty, they lick the spoons they use while cooking, their fridge contains items that have been there for 20 years, their clothes are often dirty, and they spit while speaking and eating.
I’m really worried about raising this concern with my husband because I’m afraid it could become a serious issue within our family. Unfortunately, my own parents live in America( I trust them 100% to take care of our baby).
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Long story short, when I got pregnant I had a talk with my fiancé that he would stop getting drunk and smoking. He promised that he would never do that ever again . Baby is 10 months now and he broke this promise already 100 times . And the worst part is that he is just lying looking directly into my eyes saying I did not smoke ( also i came home today after walking with our baby and he finished the beer alone at home wtf middle of the day ) . And he is always telling me I’m overreacting and it’s not that serious. But somehow when we were for 2 months with his parents he did not want to smoke or drink . Like why should I get this version of him?
Please do not leave comments like leave him etc it’s impossible now !

My little boy is 4 weeks old and I cannot get anything done. He will not stay with anyone else, not even his dad. And he can tell if i'm not near him or if i put him down and stop holding him, then he will bawl out crying.
I don't know what to do, I don't have time to cook, eat, shower, go to the toilet, nothing if im not holding him. And dad likes to work ridiculous hours so I don't have much help.
I do use a sling yes and fortunately I do bottle feed breast milk since I left the hospital because dad wanted to help but this past week if it's not breast, he does not want it. I haven't even had time to pump as he's always on me.
Someone please help. I love him so much but I cannot breathe it's getting to me so badly.
