My baby is weighing up on the 50th centile and has been since 6/7 weeks (now 13) health visitor is insiting we feed her more and also want us to go back AGAIN just to weigh her?
My baby feeds every couple of hours, burps well and rarely cries. She only wakes up once in the night for food. She also does all the usual things you would expect a baby her age to do. She is chirpy, smiley and calm pretty much all the time.
Am I being unreasonable to not want to feed her more milk (health visitor is suggesting we up the amount by 33%!?)
She currently has around 930ml over an average of 8 bottles in 24 hours. Her weight is plotting perfectly along the 50th curve, but she was born around the 75th.
(Throughout pregnancy I was plotting just below the 50th too then in the last couple of weeks shot up to 90th)
I am genuinely asking if you think I’m being unreasonable because I can be quite adverse to being told what to do 😅

Health visitor stuff is optional. If you feel like it's not necessary and there is no weight loss/massive drop in centiles recently then you could just refuse.

My son was born on the 75, dropped to 50 and has tracked there ever since, health visitor has said nothing and he’s growing well. I wouldn’t worry

Health visitors are professionals and they know what they are talking about. That is all i have to say. But at the end of the day , that is your baby and you do whatever you think it’s best

I had similar with my son, because he had a little jump and them came back down again the health visitor freaked out and we had to go in for extra weight checks which was absolutely pointless because I was like I can't feed him anymore milk 🤣
HV this time said the 6/7 week weigh might differ because they're just starting to reach their genetic norm- so it's probably that your baby is going to sit comfortably on that 50th centile! If you're not concerned then the weigh ins are just annoying 😫

I would say it's good practice to do regular weight checks, maybe every couple of weeks/monthly when they're small so you can keep an eye on things. Because technically yours has dropped off in terms of centiles and they like to see babies stay close to their centiles from birth it is something to keep an eye on but as long as baby is growing and healthy I wouldn't be particularly concerned. Your health visitor is just trying to get baby back up to their original centile. If I personally was in this situation I would consider upping the milk to an amount that I felt comfortable with but at the end of the day advice is advice, they don't know your baby like you do so if you think there's no point giving more milk because she won't take it then you are the ultimate decider!

If it was me I would decline 🤣 just do whatever you think is best, if they’re feeding well and otherwise happy then I don’t think there is any issue!

My daughter was born on 0.4th centile and stayed there, they wanted me to pump and supplement but I refused because she was tracking fine along the centile and had enough wet and dirty nappies - she was just small. Health visitor asked me what my motherly gut instinct was and to follow it and they supported me to continue EBF. Some health visitors however were concerned because she doesn’t tick the usual tick box and were telling me that she will need to be referred to paediatrics but my GP said she didn’t need to. Your baby tracking well along the 50% centile sounds great to me and I wouldn’t increase unless your baby seems hungry for more

I had this with my daughter 7 years ago, they were doing fortnightly weigh ins at home that weren’t necessary, was feeding fine just didn’t put the weight back on as quick as they’d liked, all babies are different and no one knows your baby better than you do

My daughter was 0.4 centile and has been going up slowly and she is now 4th centile at 8 months old. They always supported me to exclusively breastfeed as she was following her line just fine and achieving everything she needed to. I weigh her every month but for my own peace of mind to ensure she is following her line. Just do what you think it’s best as she is following her line and achieving everything she is supposed to.

Hi, i am a paediatric doctor. Generally speaking we calculate it by weight. So a general rule is 150x her weight. But it all depends on how she is growing, gaining weight, pooping peeing. My only concern is that she has dropped centile which means she has not gained the weight she should have. There is no harm in trying to increase the volume and see what she does.

Its because she has dropped centiles, thats why they are concerned. They want to make sure she doesnt drop any more.
My 5 month old dropped from the 90th to about the 75th and I was told to take him back the following month and to consider early weaning. My boy has always been a big boy and they were still concerned x

I don’t want to even get into it, but the only time he’s ever been nice to me is when i’ve been pregnant, and I pour everything I have into my kids. I know we all have our cross to bear in life, but my crime is that I wasn’t complicit to his pill problem, and it caused a lot of issues with CPS, which I unintentionally got involved when I reached out for help. His mom hates me. CPS thinks his mom is a toxic enabler. They deemed me the only competent care giver. Now they’ve closed the case, and I don’t have them to protect me anymore, and even if i leave, i still have to deal with these people for the rest of my life. honestly I really just wish him happiness and hope he finds somebody he actually loves and respects and respectfully lets me move on with my life. I just want to start my own business which i’m currently working on, and i want to take care of my parents and keep them out of the nursing home for as long as possible. I just want my parents. i want my mom. My dad who is my biggest support is dying. It kills me to know i won’t have my kids all the time. My husband just tells me how I’m not a good wife. I don’t understand why he’s even still with me.

Where is everyone doing their night feeds? I breast feed and then I have to pump because my son has tongue tie and that's what I was advised to do. My son is really good at sleeping at night, he'll eat and then go back to sleep, or have his nappy changed and then go back to sleep. Both with no intervention. Because of this I feed him and pump him in bed next to my husband.
Where does everyone else feed their little ones?

My boy is 2.8 and at night time we are having continuous blowouts baring in mind we’re wearing the night time pull up nappies that say they have extra protection for dryness. Clearly they don’t. I’ve now bought a protective waterproof bottom sheet as I’m washing bedsheets everyday and changing them 2/3 times in the night. His PJs are soaking and his sleep is being disturbed. My question is which nappies I do use to prevent this from keep happening? Thanks

Last year I had my first baby who after I became seriously ill was delivered 2 months early. When I finished at work that was it. I got a very basic card in the post and a bouquet of flowers then heard nothing off of the company for the entire year I was off. This week a colleague is leaving to start her maternity leave. A group of people have organised a hamper for her and baby asking for monetary contributions. SO much has been bought and who knows how much money has been spent. Gift cards for coffees out, clothes for baby, bath products for mum and baby etc. I was asked to sign a card and it was full of so many messages telling her what an amazing and great mummy she will be, words I’ve never heard. I’m 16 weeks with our 2nd and know that when I leave again it will be just like last time. No recognition and a simple card in the post as that’s company policy. I’m sat at my desk feeling so stung and hurt by this. It’s a lovely gesture being done but surely if it’s because they’re friends it’s something that should have been done privately and away from work. Maybe I’m a rubbish mum and no one actually cares as no one really seems to care at all especially during a 2nd pregnancy
