In a non judgmental way I just genuinely would like to hear of people who wean their babies at 4 months, regardless of how well they sit or swallow. I hear the argument that they don’t need to necessarily sit or swallow too well yet but it seems like it is just not fun for the baby to be taken away from milk to be spoon fed unsweetened porridge or something like that. I am just curious to hear from other parents just to be able to understand why so many people around me are being so pushy about me weaning my EBF baby at 4 months.

I think it's an old fashioned thing? I've heard people say oh my baby was never full so started baby rice (?) I think they didn't know about colic or just that babies cry and you can't stop them or soothe them sometimes so they assumed baby was hungry and anything to stop the crying? Parenting styles change, sometimes babies just cry but there was a lot of shame surrounding if your baby cried so they did anything to stop them like stomach sleeping etc and they didn't understand with SIDs.

I just moved back from the U.S. The doctors recommend starting at 4 mo introducing purées etc. Not too clear why generally but they do specifically recommend starting allergens at that age if a baby has eczema because apparently there is a link between eczema and developing allergies so introduce early and continuing exposure reduces the likelihood an allergy will develop. Id only do this if a doctor recommends though tbh. It shouldn’t get anywhere near displacing milk though not until way later.

I think some people just get excited for the next milestone honestly. They see how interested their babies are in it and they assume that means the baby wants it. If you sat there with a bottle with vodka in your hand, the baby would be interested in that too😆😆

To me and facts - baby’s digestive system is simply not ready for food before 6 months. Introducing food early can cause future digestive issues which I would rather not risk.

I think there are lots of different reasons but people’s main argument to me is probably because it was done to our generation and we’re all okay🤷🏼♀️ I’m neither here nor there with it. I was quite happy to wait until 6 months and follow guidance being a first time mum with my parents in agreement with me but my partner and his mum had a very different view and honestly it was irking me to begin with when she was pushing us to give our LO puree at 8 weeks because she did it with my partner and he’s fine🤦🏼♀️🤣 safe to say we did not do that and I educated my partner further about the sitting up with assistance first etc. and he understood my POV more. Then my LO got to almost 4 months, was sitting with assistance, didn’t have the tongue reflex etc. he has also been drinking 7-8oz per bottle for a while now and when this alone was mentioned to the HV at 4 months she advised that we could maybe start weaning and made the comment that it is advised for babies who suffer with colic or reflux at…

My boy was about 5 months old when i weened him only due to the fact he was a extra hungry baby and i mean extra hungry he was wanting 8oz bottles of milk by 6 weeks and had to move him onto extra hungry baby milk to bring his feed down slightly but it didnt really work my health visitor advised me he was getting “too much” milk in her words and i stated if hes hungry hes hungry and i was advised to try small amounts of baby rice or baby porridge with his milk mixed in obviously but it brought his bottles down to where it was supposed to be i only wver done it off advice off a health visitor ive had 2 girls since then and i didnt start weening until 6 months with my first girl and my second is 5 months old at the moment and she was 2 months prem so i wont be weening her till advised

I am considering it because my son has cmpa and I'm not breastfeeding and he's struggling on the hydrolysed milks

Accidentally started weaning at 4 months.
I was eating pasta for dinner, while bouncing her on my lap.
She has fast hands.

Got told to as he was failure to thrive and poor weight gain as wouldn’t keep milk down and dropped from 25th percentile to 1st in a month and he started to keep food down and put his weight on

My eldest will soon be 17, when she was a baby I weaned her at 4 months because we weren't told any different or knew the research that they know now. This time round I'll be waiting until 6 months just so that I'm following guidelines. If it helps, my eldest handled it fine, has no allergies and is a brilliant eater lol. Everyone will have different opinions you just need to do what you feel is right 😊

I feel like at 4 months so many babies can be at different stages. My friend started giving her baby, baby rice a week before he turned 4 months and although our babies were born a week apart, the difference between the two is huge! My baby was 4 weeks early and I think it makes such a huge difference on their milestones. I’ve also heard that formula fed babies start weaning sooner than breastfed babies. My baby has just started formula only at 5 months and he does not seem yet ready for weaning! I think it varies from baby to baby and 6 months is just a guide!
Also my baby has now decided to not finish his bottles.. was previously drinking 150-180ml every 3 hours (breastmilk) now he won’t even drink 120ml formula … any idea why this could be? He is still gaining weight!

i was told that the guidelines are 4-6 months depending how “advanced” your baby is but i do think people rush it too much. My daughter was interested in food and opening her mother from around 4 1/2 months so i started slow and started with purees, now at 7 months she eats EVERYTHING. Every baby is different and will hit milestones differently, parents just rush things sometimes ❤️
It’s my baby girls first Christmas coming up and I don’t want her to have a chocolate advent calendar as I don’t think she will need chocolate everyday at 6mo but because my partner wants her to have one as it’s tradition I said we can meet in the middle and get her a toy one or something similar he then said that I was weird and controlling only because I don’t want her to have chocolate everyday he says it’s not a big deal and that it’s his child too I can’t make all the decisions

My husband has gone away for the weekend on a buck’s which is in theory fine.
Our toddler is sick and sh slept poorly for 2 nights prior to his leaving - so badly I almost called in sick to work one day because I’ve had so little sleep. So my husband definitely knew she was sick. Went anyway. We also have 2 other daughters. (4 and 6)
I sent him a text to be like toddler vomited and has a small rash and he was like oh that sucks hope the weekend isn’t horrible for you! This pissed me off so much because he didn’t even pretend to care about her or my stress levels. I feel like if the roles were reversed he’d be pissed that I left him alone for a whole weekend with a sick child plus 2 others. He didn’t even do anything to help me get ready for the weekend (we don’t have groceries, I just had to push a heavy queen sized mattress into one of my daughter’s bedrooms on my own so we could all sleep together tonight.
He has also periodically picked fights with me about “not being supportive enough” I.e. pissy because I don’t act enough like his mummy. But then he’ll leave me with sick kids?
I get that we all are in need and deserving of breaks but I feel like he should have offered to come home (or not left in the first place). The longer I stew the more fucking annoyed I get.

Last week we went to a family funeral. It was a very sad day and I was trying to be supportive of my sister and brother in law as it was his mum. We were all in shock at the loss as she died on the same day as my mum (only five years later) and they held the funeral in the same place as my mums, to the day. It was an emotional day for everyone and during the wake my husband comes out with.. "I don't care if you're pregnant or not" infront of all our family. Nobody knows we are trying and I'm currently in the tww. We had a loss a few months ago which broke me and we agreed to try again one last time. I said it wasn't a nice thing to say and definitely not appropriate for the time and place.
Now I just think he wanted the sex rather than the baby. I am feeling like I'm pregnant and anxiously waiting to take the test. I feel exhausted physically and mentally. Now I also feel like my husband won't be happy to be having a second child as he's clearly stated he doesn't care. I've done all the housework this morning after a massive row about who does what around the house. I said that I'm not feeling up to doing the housework which sparked the row. I am genuinely feeling like shit.
Yes I work part time but I also work gruelling 10 hour shifts where my husband sits behind a desk. I painted as he asked on Wednesday and that's when I started feeling extremely tired and dizzy. He hasn't asked how I'm feeling today. Instead he started shouting about how he does enough. He does the school runs and food shopping, he also takes our son swimming on a Friday as I can't drive due to my health. If I am pregnant, it will be ingredibly high risk and I don't know if I will get the support from my husband that I will need. Maybe I am still reeling from what he said last week because it was rude af!

So my husband and I are putting away groceries..I’ve already had a long tiring day and was already irritated, my 4year old was not listening and constantly getting into things..I asked and told multiple times nicely to please stop grabbed her off counters and stuff..she kept on so I finally ended up yelling at her, my husband yells at me “ you don’t need to yell at her she going to end up depressed that’s why she is the way she is”… I said she is not listening I’ve asked multiple times nicely. And also when I tell you I feel depressed you say and I quote, “ depression isn’t a real thing it’s all in your head get used to it”. So I said well if I could actually get a break from them I wouldn’t be so short tempered… when he is home he does nothing, I want to shower kids go with I want to go to the bathroom kids go with, if I want to go out with friends to get a break kids have to go with or I can’t go..I’ve burned every dinner to a charcoal crisp because he would not help me with anything. Yes I know I should not yell at my kids but things happen and I’m human too and I always feel terrible after and go tell them sorry and explain why I yelled..

My child’s father is stressing me out! One minute he’s happy the next he’s having a complete bitch fit🤣 he blames me for his rap career not popping off the way he wanted. Says he gave me 2 kids and he has nothing to show for it. Granted when we met I was in school for music business I worked with KCamp and MoneyBagg Yo and Dolph all before they blew up when they were still establishing themselves I told him I could help him but then I moved from LA being in the club life back home to take care of my dad. Things got hard I wasn’t in the places I needed to be to make his dreams come true and money wasn’t there because we had bills. Covid happened and things really went down but I tried to help him when I had it but like he says my priorities changed…duh we were pregnant, had bills in the middle of a pandemic shit was hard for the world and we could never really gain our feet back under the music thing. Now that we are pregnant again he’s blaming me for his life not being where he wanted but I got what I wanted a family. I’m so tired to where I don’t care if he leaves me or not he don’t pay NO BILLS, he don’t help around the house, but he has a job and does whatever he wants with his money and our son and I are always last on his mind unless it’s a holiday or birthday. I needed to vent because I’m fed up and tired
