Partner won’t let me stop breastfeeding!! RANT

I love, love my baby! But I’m tired of breastfeeding. LO is currently 14 months+ with so many teeth coming in, and I’m ready to stop BF. I actually wanted to stop at 12 months, but my partner begged me to give her a bit more time. Now, at 14 months, he’s guilt-tripping me into continuing!

Last night, I tried not to do the usual night BF. LO was fussing, and I tried consoling her until she eventually fell asleep. But before that, my partner went on a rant, saying I didn’t discuss it with him first before deciding to stop, that I can’t just stop abruptly, and that I should let the baby stop when she’s ready.

It turned into an argument because I was trying to explain to him that she probably won’t stop if I don’t guide her to, and I’ll have to stop one day anyway, no??

He made me feel like such a bad mum, saying I don’t care about the child.

Noone, absolutely no one has a say in whether you breastfeed or not your baby and how long. It's totally up to you and the fact that he is trying to control you over it is a huge red flag. Don't let him fool you. You are an amazing mom and you don't have to feel guilty for being tired and wanting a change in your breastfeeding journey.

Yeah, I think important to talk about it with your partner too.
Also of course gentle and gradual is better for you as well (reducing bf in your boobs gradually).

My cousin breast fed till her kid was 10 so no they wont just naturally stop. If teeth are the issue but you still want the nutrients, you could pump and do a sippy cup. Other than that, partner has no idea what it feels like and how exhausting it is so I would tell him thats not his choice.

Mine has naturally stopped just before 3, and I know many others that have done so in between 1-3 years. However, if you want a break for a night, take it. If you want to wean your baby gradually, do it. You’ve done 14 months and that’s amazing. You’ve given her the best start!! Your body, your choice 💜

Your boobs your choice! Amazing work for going for so long, a lot of people don’t - including me, I stopped nursing at 7 months partly because of teeth and I switched to exclusively pumping for his now 3-4 feeds a day which he’s slowly taking less and less of. Perhaps if you were happy to pump instead of BF that might be a middle ground? If not, you do you mama. ❤️

Don't want to go do his research about what breastfeeding entails from your body for you to provide more than food to your child and I'm sure he'll see the light

Yeah the way he is going about it just give me an ick v ibe. Look weaning is always best but yeah the guy talking about it with you the way he is makes me believe he may not want you to stop because with out breast milk your boobs get smaller. Or he may have a fetish...idk I just don't like the vibe I got when he was begging you to give her more time on the boob...😬

'Oh yeah I'm stopping breastfeeding'
'Okay darling, Whatever you think is best. Here to talk it out if you need'

Thats how the convo should go

Partner not okay with breastfeeding

We started out with a combo of breast feeding and bottle feeding (formula and expressed milk) but I found breast feeding is just easier, quicker, less dishes.

Baby girl is coming up on 8weeks old and my partner is very uncomfortable with me breastfeeding with anyone around. I do my best to be discreet and respectful of his feelings but babies run on baby time. He won’t let me feed our baby if we are in public, I have to go to the car. If his family is over to see the baby I have to leave the conversation and go to another room while they continue to visit.

Has anyone else’s partner been uncomfortable? How did you navigate the conversation of “I’m going to feed our baby- idc if it makes you uncomfortable” without a huge fight?

Thanks in advance for any thought or advice!

Is constant crying normal for a 2 week old?

My 2 week old cries almost all the time unless being held or fed. Is this normal at this age, or should I be worried? Any tips for coping or helping to settle them would be appreciated!

Baby peeing through nappies

My 4 week old keeps peeing through nappies - we use cloth nappies predominantly and we’ve tried adding extra liners and sizing up his clothes so that they’re not compressing the nappy. We’ve also tried disposables but he’s just peed through 2 disposable nappies (and vests and sleepsuits) during 1 feed.

Anyone else experience this and have any tips?
