iPad

Hey mamas im thinking of getting myself an iPad because i post on social media often however my daughter is nearly 3 and has never had a tablet of that nature. However - I have a baby on the way and am considering maybe letting my toddler use it ever now and again just if things feel too overstimulating for me. But only as a treat. Is this the worst mistake I could possibly make or shall I keep it hidden from her?

I wouldn’t keep it hidden from her but I also (personally) wouldn’t let her use it. My kids get to watch tv although I’ve cut back loads on what they watch, if things get too much and I need a min I’d put the tv on as i don’t want them to have a tablet. I know when I have let my daughter use my phone to take pictures in the past she would get upset at giving it me back/me taking it back and can only imagine what she would be like with a tablet

I would keep it hidden…. After working in a daycare those things are just uncomfortably addicting to children. Even when parents would tell us “only let them use it for 30 minutes” once the 30 minutes was up and we took them back they would be in horrendous moods the rest of the day. Not just one kid either, any of them that had one for any amount of time. 🫩🥲 I’m talking horrendous moods like stomping, screaming, demanding they get it back. Or even trying to bargain for more screen time offering to help clean up only if we gave more tablet time.

Congratulations on having another one on the way! 🥰 I think it all depends on how your child is with screens. My niece has a tablet that she uses on car journeys and it doesn’t seem to affect her behaviour at all. She’s happy to put it away when asked and I never hear her ask for it. My son however would not do well with a tablet. He has a much more addictive personality and too much screen time really affects him. I wouldn’t get him a tablet purely because I think he would keep asking for it no matter how much time we spread out inbetween.

I think I read something about not calling screens a ‘treat’ so that you can try and reduce the child’s want for them. If you do get one, perhaps just download educational apps as appose to games and tv so that it has a different purpose?

I do also find with extra screen time for my son, his ability to play independently is affected, so if I were to use screen time to give myself a break, I’d actually be making it harder for the rest of the day!x

I’m a big advocate of doing what you need to do to get through the day. I really think it varies child to child, my oldest is 5 and can play a game on the iPad and then give it back happily whereas my middle is 4 and if you let him on a phone/tablet then he’s just a zombie and it’s a nightmare afterwards. All you can do is see how they get on with a limited amount of time and if you feel they aren’t reacting well then take the tablet away x

No judgment please.... to send toddler into daycare or not to send?

I'm currently stay at home mom with a 2 1/2 year-old and expecting 🙏🏼💕💙 I have the option of putting my oldest into daycare around the corner twice a week for a couple hours a day. The Mom guilt in me keeps going back-and-forth if it's the right thing to do ...I think it would be good for all of us, especially her to have her own thing and get 1:1 attention learn new skills, socialize make friends, etc. what would you do? Would you keep your oldest home with you or send them for a bit part-time to help with the adjusting postpartum, etc.

Weaning help!

We’ve been weaning for about a month now and she’s currently having two meals a day. I’m often out and about during lunch time so tend not to do it then. I have no idea how quickly I should be upping the meals (and snacks). What are other people’s experiences?

Nursery prep

Is anyone else not bothered by a "nursery"?

I'm 34 weeks and I haven't been bothered about getting the nursery ready for bub.
I don't see the point personally.

I see all these videos of people "nesting" and getting the nursery ready etc but .... Why? The baby can't sleep in their own room until atleast 6 months old. Who would want to walk upstairs just to change and feed baby in a certain room...

Personally I won't be preparing the baby's room until like a week before he needs to go into it 😅

Am I the only one? Maybe it's because it's my 4th baby but i didn't do it for my others either.

Not interested in eating

Daughter is 6.5 months and we started “complementary foods” alongside EBF 2 weeks ago.
I know foods at this stage are more for exploration and learning skills, but she is really not very interested in eating.
All strong signs of readiness and shouts when we eat and tries to grab our food. But the moment we try to feed her she will actually swallow 1 teaspoon total, MAYBE 2 on a good day. She will spit most out and then clamp her mouth shut.

We’ve tried purées, BLW and loading spoon to give to her. She will take the spoon herself and open her mouth but the food ultimately ends up in her hand/on her face/in her lap.

Anyone else??
