Cry it out method

What’s the longest you would leave your baby to cry it out without interviening?? My partner is trying to use the strict cry it out method in order for us to train our baby during the night and he’s currently been crying an hour and a half and it’s killing me .. the urge to go in and breast feed him is so strong it’s so hard to hear . But then apparently I would ruin it if I go in now

I know this method appeals to a lot of parents but I couldn't do it at all. If a baby cries I'd go in. Having said that, I'll admit I'm really not in a position to be giving advice. My eldest who's 4 sometimes still needs a parent at night. I just think they're still so small 4 years or 9 months. What'sso wrong with needing a parent and them being there? But Do I get my sleep? No.

i don’t want to come across rude or anything but the cry it out method is so outdated it goes against natural instinct that you’re clearly showing to want to go in and comfort them. babies don’t need “trained” they are still so little and need the comfort from their parents it’s their way of feeling safe. they don’t need to be sleeping through the night at this age. when they stop the crying it’s actually because they’ve learned that even if i cry no one is coming to comfort me so i won’t bother 🥲 i don’t know when we as a society became so obsessed over babies sleep. if you want to go in and sooth your baby you go do that mumma

I completely agree with the other comments. If you need to go in and soothe your baby, you should go. The cry it out method is so outdated (I don’t mean to come across rude) and is so harmful and impactful to their growing development and attachment to you 💔 someone has mentioned above how it reinforces that no one is coming for them and that is absolutely true, and when they are so little this is not something that needs to be instilled in them. It is completely normal for babies and young children to not sleep through the night and to wake regularly for feeds, especially breast fed babies as milk digests quicker than bottle fed. You know your baby and what’s right and if your know your baby needs you go in and soothe them. They have all their life to learn how to sleep independently and they will do that when their developmentally ready, and right now their not. An hour and a half is way too long for a baby to be left crying, sorry to say. Hope you’re ok mama! 💜

I’m going to be a totally different commenter.

We do the Ferber method occasionally. Although my son is a character and just giggles in his cot… rarely properly cries.

We do timed check in’s which takes away the need for a baby to cry and panic no one is coming. We do 3, 6, 8, 10, 12 and stick to 12 if we reach that check in. If he actually properly cries, we give him a couple of minutes, if he doesn’t settle, we’ll go in and say night night and give his dummy or pat his chest. But to be honest by check in 3 (8 minutes) he’s fast asleep. 💤

The cry it out method has been proven to be harmful for babies and is so outdated. Personally I could never leave my baby to cry it out. Research shows that using the cry it out method impairs their self regulation and has long term affects on kids as they grow up and can even be considered need neglect.
At thjs age it is completely normal for our babies to cry and not sleep through the night, waking for feeds and for comfort.
Eventually they wil learn to sleep independently but right now they will wake and that’s okay.

I wouldn’t be leaving my baby to cry it out and certainly not for that long before intervention. I think you need to have a word with your partner and tell him that it’s not acceptable and very outdated method! What’s wrong with a baby wanting some comfort?! They cry for a reason, this is near on neglect leaving him for that long. Obviously your partner didn’t have love when he was young

I wouldn’t full stop. I go to her immediately.

Ms.rachel

Do you and when did you start turning on ms.rachel for your little ones? My baby is 10 months and I don't turn on any screens for her but I have heard that people start early to help with speech development. Obviously in moderation. Any thoughts

Taking toys away

This may seem dramatic for some, however me and my partner have decided, that tomorrow while my daughter (3) is in nursery we will be putting all her toys in storage and telling her they are in the bin. We will keep a few low stimulation ones like a few or her Dave books, and sensory things but everything else gone.
This is a result of her behaviour drastically over the last 6 months has been getting worse and worse. It is gotten to the point where she hits me with full fists, kicks me, pulls my hair, slaps me, throws all her hard toys at me, take toys and slams them against other surfaces to create noise especially when asked to keep it a low level. It’s also gotten to the point where if we ask “her lets keep feet on floor” or “let’s walk nicely” “hands to sled please” these are follow by a scream till her face is red, and repeated “no no no no” till she starts slapping her self, or starts having a melt down. To which we always intervene if she’s getting herself we say “no ouchies please” or she’s melting down, we cuddle her and comfort her, but doing this 5 times working 20-30 minutes is mentally draining.
And don’t get me started if I ever raise my voice god anyone walking by the house probably thinks this kid is being skinned alive.

So please comment away on if this is dramatic of us as parents, or if this may reduce the stimulation in her environment, or anything else ??

Very unsettled baby girl tonight 😢

My 4 week old seems to just not want to settle/sleep unless she is on me or my husband or being nursed by me. Every time I try to transfer tonight she just starts crying and getting inconsolable. Have made sure she’s fed, burped, helped with gas, changed etc but nothing seems to be working tonight when usually she is ok. I am absolutely exhausted and my husband is working tomorrow so having to manage solo is pretty tough. Anyone else or any suggestions?

Sterilising and overthinking

I remember feeling this with my first and now I'm right back there with my second...

Sterilising. It drives me crazy because I sterilise the bottles/pump parts etc, all good, but then the packaging says to rinse afterwards, but then it's no longer sterile?

Even if I don't rinse, I need to dry. But a towel or kitchen paper again isn't sterile.

So I could let them air dry, but then if they're needed before they've completely air dried there's still droplets (especially some of the pump parts).

I lose my mind over it! What do you do?!

I'm EBF so this is for bottles for breastmilk and pump parts, which I know there is also conflicting advice on whether you actually need to sterilise or not 😵‍💫

What does everyone else do?

I need your help/advice

My 6 day old hasn’t done a poo for almost 72 hours now. He’s been passing wind and peeing normally. The last time I spoke to the midwife, it had been 48 hours since his last poo, and she said she wasn’t too worried and advised me to continue feeding him.

I’m calling again tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone has experienced something similar. We switched from formula to 100% breastfeeding about 3 days ago, and I have no idea whether he’s getting enough milk. I can see and hear him swallowing, but it’s still so confusing trying to know how much he’s actually getting.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

2nd baby

hey! I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with my second, my first is 27 months old and will be 32 months when my second is born.

I do a lot of walking at the moment and plan to do it with my second, but I just wanted advice about whether people with similar age gaps have gone for double pushchairs or buggy boards!

I am worried about spending loads of money on a double pushchair that my son won’t really use for long and I’m worried about converting our Icandy peach 7 back into a carrycot if he is going to want to use it!
