Yes, I agree that if your child doesn't have additional needs, then your child should 100% be potty trained, be 3 years old. It's not easy, it's takes time and effort, and some children then go through regressions and youre back at square 1, this is when alot of parents say "they aren't ready" and put them back in nappies, personally I think the older they get the harder it gets because they're more head strong and not willing to cooperate.

My first was potty trained at 2 years old. My second is 21 months old, and I'm starting with him next week

There are so many other circumstances other than additional needs that could delay potty training.

I was pregnant whilst trying to potty train my eldest and physically couldn't do it. We had to hold off until I was a few weeks postpartum. He was 3. He looked 5. People probably thought "why is that 5 year old in nappies" but he was freshly 3.

There could be circumstances unrelated to the child, where the child 'looks' perfectly capable of being potty trained by 3, but behind closed doors there may be family trouble, unstable housing, financial struggle, meaning parents can't just keep buying different potties until one sticks (we had 3 before my son decided he liked one!) The child could have other health conditions you can't see, their parents may have health conditions, maybe it's a single parent with several kids who is just trying their best and waiting until the child is more on board with the idea.

It's better to just mind your own child and not worry too much about what others are doing..

Girls and boys are different, but I’d say if the kid isn’t potty trained by 4 then it’s a lack of trying, if they are perfectly developed.

It's not unacceptable unless you're sending the child to school.

Regression is a thing, life's circumstances are too, I can agree by 4, my 3 year old relationship with poop is mind blowing 🫣

I think 4, should be completely day time trained.
The advice has changed so much even just recently. They used to say don't even bother with boys until at least 3! Now they say to sit both on potty from 4 months

I’m convinced that modern day brain washing of “your child isn’t ready” or don’t bother till 3-4 was created by diaper companies. It is straight up child abuse if you child is in diapers at certain age. I think everyone should start at about 12/13 months or even earlier

Okay does potty trained mean they can wipe their own ass to? Or does that just mean they can tell you or know themselves when they need to go potty. Can someone leave some real advice for the lazy non potty training moms like myself? My son is 2 years and 5 months old. Still wears diapers he can tell me when he poops in his diaper most of the time he sits on the potty when we sit on the potty we sing and talk to him about it but im not sure how to move on to the next step? PLEASEEEE Ladies with little boys give ya girl some advice

My daughter is 3, not potty trained (also not ready to be), and is autistic, so I don’t have much experience outside of that but I’d say 3 is still young!
A lot of kids in her class only just potty trained over the summer holidays, and some still aren’t 💩 trained, so I’d say 4 is probably more of a realistic age to start being concerned.
But for the most part, if it’s not your child it’s probably not your business, unless it’s alongside other wellbeing concerns.

Urgh when are we going to stop calling each other lazy? As a primary school teacher, I can assure you, no parent wants to send their child to school still in nappies. We live in a completely different world now. There are so many variables to this. Outside of the SEND argument, we live in a society where the majority of parents both work. I was lucky, I had a 6 week summer to potty train my boy. Without that I don’t know when we would have got it done. I just think we need a little more compassion and little less judgment.

What a load of bollocks

Like 90% of babies in the 1950s were potty trained by 18months. Babies havent changed since then, all that's happened is people are less motivated because they dont have to wash cloth nappies out!

Pooping in a potty

Last night while playing and having some nakey time without a nappy on my little girl who’s just turned 2 said “I want my potty” so I told her to go get it. She bought her potty into her bed room, sat down and went poop. I was shocked because she’s only been playing with the potty up-to now, she’s never done a wee in it and if anything she usually would get nervous whilst sitting on it as I think she was worried she wasn’t aloud to do a wee or poop despite my encouragement.

It’s has been sat in my bathroom for weeks not being looked it never mind used, so for her to actively go fetch it as she wanted a poop AND use it correctly, I’m shocked! 🤯

I gave her loads of praise, big smiles but she looked worried she’d done a “stinky” on the potty and was upset. Yet she’s the one who wanted to do it??? Im confused what to do about it. Personally I don’t think she’s ready to start potty training but the kid just independently took herself off to use it so perhaps I’m wrong?

How would you play these next steps? Or would you do nothing as it might have been just a one off?

Feeling like a terrible wife

My husband apparently hurt his leg while at work. He has been limping around for a few days. Now he says he can’t hardly move it. I’m feeling pretty upset because I can’t tell if it truly is as bad as he says or he is just using it as an excuse. I have taken care of the kids, the meals, the cleaning, all of it while he said I could take it easy and relax. All day he has been sleeping and not really doing much of anything. I’m frustrated because when I am sick or in pain I still have to take care of the kids and cook/clean but it seems like he just gets to do nothing. Am I being a bad wife?

Baby fell off couch

my husband was supposed to be watching the baby so i could sleep in the morning and he set the baby 7 weeks old on the couch while he went to the restroom, well baby wiggled off and fell face first ☹️ i woke up to the crying we both ran to see he was laying face down on the tile floor and we rushed to the hospital they did X rays and they said nothing is wrong internally he just has a bruise on his forehead and bruised nose. IM SO HEARTBROKEN. we’re home now and baby is acting normally but i just feel like the worst parents ever. did this happen to anyone else ever or are we really the worst?? and is it likely he could get a long term disability from this ? has it happened to anyone else? also yes i’m very angry at my husband, i never leave the baby unsupervised. if something worse was wrong with the baby i was seriously considering divorce while sitting in the hospital room!

4 year old not making friends in prek

Hi everyone, I recently enrolled my child into PreK thinking it would be great for them. They are a very social child and love friends, so I thought it would be easy. Well it’s been over two weeks now and in all the pictures the teacher sends, my child is always playing alone. The other kids play together but mine doesn’t. I ask them about it and they say all the other kids already have their friends and they don’t have anyone to ask to play with. The issue is these kids have been together since they were 2, while my child is just now starting. It’s a very small school. Should I be doing something to try to encourage them to make friends? Or is this normal and will soon pass? Thank you for reading this long post!
Signed,
a worried mama
