Sleep regression

Looking for some advice/reassurance from other mums who’ve survived the 4-month sleep regression 😭🫠

My little girl is 4 months old and we’re about 3 weeks into it now. Before this she was a really good sleeper, but suddenly she’s waking pretty much EVERY SINGLE HOUR through the night.

Last night was probably our worst night yet and she was awake for what felt like pretty much the entire night. 😭 She manages to sleep absolutely fine during the day and has decent naps, but nighttime is horrendous.

We’ve got a really solid bedtime routine that we’ve done consistently for a while now, and she goes down well initially for a few hours at 7pm. But then she’ll wake, I’ll settle her/replace her dummy, she’ll go back off and then we’re doing the same thing again shortly afterwards.

My partner works away, so during the week I’m doing the nights completely on my own and can’t split the load or catch up while someone else takes over. I’m absolutely exhausted at this point and starting to wonder if there’s anything else I can actually do.

How long did the 4-month regression last for your babies? Did anything genuinely help? Did you change naps/bedtime, start any kind of sleep training, ditch the dummy etc., or is it genuinely just something you have to ride out?

Any advice from other mums who’ve been through it would be massively appreciate

Just to say I'm in the same boat. I can't remember 4 months being this bad with my other Daughter who is 5. All I can say is we will sleep again...eventually 🥴

I've been going through it since week 9, we're getting over the other side of it now at 13 weeks. Ride out and watch nap times like a hawk, make sure they're eating enough in the day and encourage self settle techniques as they learn them.

I'm a single mama and it is brutal doing it on your own, but it will pass x

I feel your pain on this one. My little one slept well before their regression. Then the 4 month regression came and ours lasted around 6 weeks. He would wake every 45 mins - 2 hours and needed to be rocked a specific way to go back to sleep 😂

What I tried to do was put in place a routine of 8pm bedtime routine of nappy change, a feed and then rock to sleep. Everytime he woke up, I would rock him to sleep, no speaking just rocking.

Trust your gut on this one and if you have a routine, put yourself and baby needs first. I was strict with the bedtime routine even when we were staying with family because I just didn’t want to disrupt his bedtimes.

And for you, find something to help you get through it because it is hard and your health matters too. I started listening to a podcast everytime he would wake and I had to rock him to sleep. Makes the minutes go by more easier 😂

We came out of it 2 weeks ago! Trust me it gets better, it may not seem like it, but it will!

I focused on having a set wake up time and keeping daytime naps reasonable - but you know your baby’s wake windows and when they get over tired x

Feed them as much as you can during the day! My husband is a HEAVY sleeper, so I did everything alone to he’s woken up (on his own) to ME crying in the night, not the baby🤣🤣🤣 it’s tough mama, you’ll get through this❤️❤️❤️

Give yourself grace and patience, don’t worry about housework too much. If you can’t nap in the day, just have a bit of time to zone out when the baby sleeps x

Post natal depression sorry it’s long

Has anybody else not only had postnatal depression, but thought they would get it even before giving birth?

I’m 36 weeks pregnant at the moment and with this pregnancy and my first one I’ve had a lot of mental instability I’ve had anxiety attacks, panic attacks, feelings that I don’t deserve to have a baby after we had a termination five years ago, I have intrusive thoughts, nightmares at night about hurting the baby, dropping the baby and comments from my partner that he doesn’t want the baby that I forced him into having our second.
I just feel like because he hasn’t been interested in this pregnancy he’s done literally nothing to help me and we do have a bit of a rocky relationship. I already feel so overwhelmed and ignored and stressed and depressed and I’m just getting into my head now that I won’t be able to connect with this new baby all this experience it just made me think it was a mistake and we haven’t done the right thing. I want this baby more than anything a little boy after we’ve had a girl I just feel myself spiralling into this hole and yeah, I’ve got good support around me and I’ve got friends and family that live close but I just feel like this baby is gonna arrive and I’m just gonna feel so down and disconnected and I won’t be able to be a good mum I feel like I’ve just checked out mentally at the moment. And I feel really guilty knowing this baby will be here in a few weeks.

Car seats

What the fuck is that.
Looks like no seat belt, just some bar thing, and a kid that’s small enough to be rear facing in a forward only car seat?? Someone tell me there’s more to this and it’s not as crazy as it looks

Are your little ones walking?

Just wondering if most September babies are walking. We’re on holiday and so many people have commented on my just turned 1 year old walking, which I didn’t expect, I thought 12 months was average age for walking, his older brother walked at pretty much exactly 12 months too

After school routine

What is everyone's after school routine?
My son has started reception (he's 4). We get home at about 3:30 which for me is basically morning 😂 when he was in nursery he would come home at 6 so it was easy - dinner then bed.

I've been letting him watch a bit of TV but I don't really want him watching TV all afternoon. That's what we did as kids 😂

Formula bottle

How many bottles is your baby having in a 24 hour period and how many ounces?
My babies formula tin said he would only need 4 6oz bottles a day for his weight but he has a lot more!
