VBAC or Planned C-Section?

Following cause SAME 😫

If you try for a natural and wind up having a c section then you know you had a go. If you don't try, then you regret not trying.
Both are terrifying and both have their cons.
Try for natural, i would say.

I had an elcs with my 1st and now im torn between vbac for the experience and benefits, or another elcs because I know what to expect etc

My appointment to discuss this is actually later today!

My plan is to attempt for a vbac & request to have a fall back c-section date scheduled.

My goal is to avoid being induced again, so if my body doesn’t go into spontaneous labor with my second I know id much rather have a planned c-section instead.

I’m going through this too. Pregnant with twins now. My hospital is v experienced in twin births vaginally and booked for induction on Monday, they’ve scared me with over explaining the negatives though. Should be having a sweep tomorrow and Sunday to try and get things moving naturally. Even though planned c is easier with the planning stages, I want to try for natural for the experience and recovery. I feel a lot of ppl like family are pushing for the c section though for the certainty of knowing how/when esp with childcare for our toddler (which I do appreciate)🥺

I had an emergency one with my first and I am having an elective one this time. Mainly so I can be in control of the experience. I have heard it can be a very healing experience after some birth trauma x

I was in the same situation. I tried for the second one. But I went in knowing that I might get a C-section. And I didn’t want to keep trying a bunch of stuff if it wasn’t looking good. So we called it at a certain point and went for the C-section. And I’m glad I did because I didn’t put me or the baby through what I did the first time around before C-section.

If your doctor is on board with it, I highly recommend a VBAC. I just had one in July & it was a much better experience than my c-section with my first. The recovery has been much better as well.

I had an epidural both times. The second time I didn’t get the epidural until I was 6cm. The first time I got one at 4cm. I also hired a doula/midwife who was very experienced with VBACs. Check out The VBAC link podcast & Facebook group.

My mother had an emergency c section with her first and then two successful vaginal births after that. Every birth is a new and different experience. Don’t let it stress you out.

your ob def should’ve done a better job explaining! Your individual situation determine whether you’re a candidate for VBAC, but the risk is uterine rupture, which is rare (under 1%) but also super super serious.

It’s immediately life threatening for both mom and baby, they will need to get baby out asap with a c section, and mom might need a hysterectomy.

But again the chances are low, which is why plenty of people still go for the VBAC. I’d say to ask your doc to explain why they think you are/aren’t a good VBAC candidate and take it from there.

Could have written this myself. So hard to decide what to do and I feel like I don't feel passionately about one way or the other 😫

I had an emergency c section with my first and a planned c section with my 2nd. Completely different experiences! The first was pretty horrendous, the second was so much calmer and just a much nicer experience. I had PTSD after the first one and couldn't get my head round having that experience again so opted for a planned section. I definitely mourned having the experience of doing it naturally but for my mental health I knew I couldn't go through with it. Whatever option you go with I hope it goes amazingly well 🩷 xx
