Switching to formula

I will have exclusively fed my 3 month old breastmilk in 2 weeks time and I think for my mental health I want to combo feed. Does anyone have any tips on this? I currently pump 7 times within 24 hours and would like to reduce that so I can live without having to pump every 3 hours. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Xxx

The Haaka products have saved my life! The silicone manual breast pump and the lady bug breast collector have bought me so much time back

I combo fed my son from the time he was in the hospital till he was 3 months. I didnt have a good supply and then my milk dried up at 3 months. At night we'd alternate feeding methods between formula and breast milk

Hi congratulations on this big step and not allowing anyone to tell you otherwise! I did the same thing for many factors and FTM. I hand pumped early in the morning and at night. I found hand pumping got more out and felt less D-MER. It was BAD. It also helps expressing more milk!! Your milk may or may not drop. For me it did after a while formula feeding became easier. I did many different methods BUT remember about the food temps and times mold is a real thing. We did the pitcher method, and then having bottles ready. Now we just fill up the bottles and have the Togo formula container. Depends on your situation and what would be easier. Hope it helps you can ask me more questions! 🥹🎀🫶🏼 also breast milk is good for 6 hours!! My lactation consultant stated this is the new norm.

This advice is only if you want to continue!
Have you attempted to drop a pump? At 3 months old your supply should be regulated where you dont need to keep the same amount of milk removals to produce the same. Slowly lower pumping time by 2-5 minutes on one of your pumps (best to do the one you get the least output on or is the most inconvenient for you) until its down to 5 minutes or less, and then drop it completely and re space the rest of your pumps for either 4 hours inbetween all, or give yourself some longer stretches at night or whenever you need.

Aim for like 12a, 5a, 9a, 12p, 4p, 8p
or something similar, give or take an hour on any of them

In the beginning you may need to increase the other 6 pumping sessions by a few minutes to compensate, but that depends on how long you pump for already (its good to keep total pumping minutes about the same or close, so if you pump for only 20 minutes, increase the other 6 pump sessions by ~3 minutes IF you notice a supply decrease)

Hope that all makes sense!

Nursery help please!!!!

I’m due to return to work from maternity leave in January 2027 and I’m DREADING IT, he’ll be 1. I just feel so bad for him, I have such a clingy baby and I think he’s going to think I’ve abandoned him 😭 we co-sleep, is exclusively breastfed (won’t take a bottle / dummy but will sometimes have small amounts of pumped milk in a cup with straw) and I’m the only one who can put him down for naps (fed to sleep) and then I roll away. Not even his dad can put him to sleep (he falls asleep with rocking but wakes the moment he touched the mattress when transferred).

I’ve never spent more than 2 hours away from him (2-3 times). We don’t have any family or friends who can look after the baby to even practice him being away from us.

In an ideal world I would wait for him to go to nursery when he is able to talk and understand that I’m not leaving him forever and I’ll be coming back, the thought of it breaks me!

I’m already struggling with mental health (post natal depression and anxiety). I’m considering taking a career break (if my work will let me), or staying off sick for a few months or paying back my enhanced maternity pay (£9000) and leaving the company! Money will be very tight but this could work for around 6 months.

I don’t know what to do, any suggestions or experience would be appreciated!

Thanks xxx

HOW are we waking our newborns?!

I'm trying to not go longer than 3 hours inbetween breastfeeds as my baby is not back to birthweight and my boobs are feeling quite engorged.

I'm having such a hard time waking my baby up for feeds and everything I'm reading online is about newborns feeding constantly, mine feels like the opposite?

I've tried changing, stripping down, cold water on belly, ticking feet, blowing, placing on a cold changing mat, talking, moving. It's taking me around 20 minutes to wake.

Surely this isn't normal. I'm worried I won't even make it to 8 feeds today.

My mom died, feels like my kids mom did

My mom died a month ago. She was a huge part of my life, and was there for me every time I needed her without question. She died unexpectedly from a stroke, and since then I feel like I'm in a life I don't recognize.

I see no light at the end of the tunnel. I see a life without the person who loved me most. And now my kids get this shell of a person as their mom. I feel no joy, i cry and I'm angry. The kind of mom no one really cries over. Nothing like my own.

If you've been through this please tell me it gets easier. That one day you wake up not wanting to just go back to sleep.

2 year old naps

Is it bad to leave your 2 year old in her cot till she falls asleep? She's laughing and happy but doesnt fall asleep straight away.

Sleep help - do not tell me how well your baby sleeps unless you recently turned a corner 🙃

Baby contact naps so well & sleeps of a night time well contact sleep wise - next to me crib an hour if that I think maybe we’ve had 3 hours once when he was like 3 weeks.

What can we do to make him sleep in his bed that long he’s 7 weeks 4 days so slap bang in the middle of his growth spurt - feeding loads, initially refusing sleep but now appears more sleepy & is quite grumpy but I think we’re turning a corner with it.

So far I’ve worn his bedsheet, red light, noise machine, he sleeps next to husband side, warmed his sheet…
