Colostrum

Hi,

Have started trying to harvest colostrum because I have gestational diabetes and am due soon and apparently it’s really beneficial for GD babies. At the moment I can only get the tiniest amount that you can’t even really see in the syringe. I am just using my hands at the moment. Would pumping help better or does anyone have any other tips on how to express more?

I got hardly anything the first time but more each time I tried 😊 make sure you pick a time you are relaxed and try a warm compress on your boob before you start. Make sure you're well hydrated too! I used to get more really late in the evening so I don't know if the time of day makes any difference or not 🤷 and you don't need loads anything is beneficial I only needed 5ml for my baby's first feed as they were sleepy and didn't latch right away x

Echoing what Leah said! A warm bath can be an alternative to a compress too. You can also massage the breast starting from the armpit all the way towards the nipple, then the expressing itself is best as a C-shape cup near the outer edge of the areola. Try a few different angles if one isn’t yielding anything. It would take me around 20-30mins to fill a 1ml syringe.

It’s advised to stick with hand expressing for colostrum as there’s usually so little and it’s stickier than milk so a pump isn’t worthwhile

I pumped with my last baby i got plenty out, although it did take a good few days to getting a beneficial amount. Also im type 1 diabetic 😉

I would hand express after a shower! It felt like nothing at first and increased over time (some days it was randomly less however; no idea why) I had understood that pumping before birth was discouraged since it could apparently induce labor. But it sounds like a lot of people do it without incident.

I know hand expression is the best 👌

Comfy bras?

Is anyone else still wearing nursing bras even after they’ve stopped nursing because it’s just comfortable?? Because hi 🙋‍♀️. I would like nothing more than to retire them as war heroes but what are we all wearing as alternatives? Does anyone have recommendation for comfy supportive cute bras? ‘Cause the girls do be needing more support after 9 months of nursing. I was looking at the Knix no underwire ones.

Pram inserts for newborns

My mum has recently found a free pram that’s she’s brought home for us, it’s a bugaboo chameleon 3, with an L shaped bucket seat, but it also reclines back fully (will include pictures). There’s some parts missing, we’ll need to get more straps for it. As the seat fully reclines, I’m guessing there’s some sort of seat you can put it in for babies that need to lie at an 180 angle. I really need help finding a seat, I have no idea what to look for or any of the pram terminology. I’m hoping to get something to put in it for a newborn before thinking about buying a whole other pram well only use for 5 months. Any advice appreciated

Weaning

Is weaning at 24 weeks a good idea?
He gives all signs of readiness so I though that giving that he’s breastfeeding really often ( every 2 hours day and night ) this might fill him up better? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ideas with how to keep my baby on her back for nappy changes

Hey all!

My girl is nearly 7 months and for little while she has been a nightmare to change her nappies and clothes 🫣😂
All she wants to do is roll onto her front and try crawl off the mat!

I used to be able to distract her by singing and dancing - but now I can’t find anything to distract her and I’m chasing her around her changing mat 😂 and trying to change her backwards lol

I know it’s normal for most babies to go through these stages, just wondered if anyone has found anything that has helped.?

Naps

What are your naps looking like at the moment?

She’s fighting every single nap and I feel like maybe I’ve got the timing off or should be getting her to push through tiredness. Feeling a bit clueless atm

Her fighting naps is delaying everything so it’s leading to her bedtime edging later and later
