Contraception advice!

Advice on contraception for heavy periods, PMDD & PMOS

I’m looking for some advice on contraception. I’m considering contraception purely to help manage my periods rather than primarily to prevent pregnancy.

My periods are extremely heavy, and I get really bad PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) symptoms. I’ve also recently been told that I have PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome). My periods have also contributed to me becoming anaemic, so they’re having a significant impact on my day-to-day life.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience. What contraception has helped with heavy periods and/or PMDD symptoms, particularly if you also have PMOS? And are there any other treatments or options you’d recommend discussing with my GP?

Thank you ❤️

I don't have any advice as I can't use contraception, but I'm in the same boat with the heavy periods. It's horrific. I know the GP has suggested some over-the-counter medication to take a couple of days when it's at its heaviest, but I can't remember the name!

I have PCOS and found the pill made me pile on weight, I came off of it and started Inositol and lost about 2 stone but after falling pregnant, now 8 weeks PP, I've had to start looking at contraception too. I asked about non hormonal options and was just told coil (can worsen periods) or a pill with progesterone is safe for BF. It's like they don't listen with hormone issues sometimes so if your GP will listen then definitely have a discussion! I don't want to affect my hormones but also don't want to get pregnant but it feels like not a huge array of options.

Honestly it is so exhausting no one listens!! I had a blood test done and all my hormones came back normal apart from my pro-oestrogen was high .. I’m literally over it now! 😅 I don’t even know what to say to doctors anymore atp

I was a working corporate girlie until yesterday when I randomly got fired. I'm 6 months away from being due. I'm trying to be positive about it but honestly i'm actually really devastated :"(

Work from home

How do you manage working from home and the baby. I go back to work in 2 weeks and am getting nervous how to balance a baby and my job. Any tips or tricks are appreciated

Employer not responding to flexible working request

I had a call with my manager in early August and I told her my plans for reducing to 3 days a week and not returning until April 2027 (Mat leave ends on 1st Dec 2026). She agreed and said was fine with her but I need to put in writing and email.

I sent the email the next day and I’ve had zero response for the formal flexible working request. Is this something I should be concerned about?

I have since emailed twice requesting to do some KIT days as I now only have 2 months to do them and could do with the money. However again these have had zero response.

I’m not sure what to do next if they keep ignoring emails.

Pregnancy vitamins

Is everyone continuing to take vitamins beyond 12 weeks? When I asked my midwife at 10 weeks, she said it’s not necessary as folic acid is only needed for development which happens in the first trimester

Maternity Leave

Hey Mamas. Im 35+4 and I'm exhausted. My job is not that physically demanding but the commute, the walks etc sometimes are too much. I cant really sleep well lately and i just feel over the edge. I am due on the 30th October but officially starting my maternity leave from the 16th. Although I feel like I can't get to work anymore. My question is whether I change my maternity leave for next week or I wait for the 16th. It feels so far away and feel like I won't be doing much home, but I would love to rest more.
