I’m a little scared

So apparently my baby boy is definitely bigger than normal and I’m short. It’s recommended I do a C Section for the health of my baby and for me as well. I’m definitely going to go through with it bc it’s safer for the both of us but I’m honestly incredibly scared. I have mad respect for mothers who went through a C Section it’s a fear of mine to be awake while I’m being cut open. Anyone have any advice to prep or in general to ease anxiety at all.

Most women want to be awake to welcome their baby, but there is an option to be fully out that you can ask for if you feel like that would be more helpful to your mental health.

I had an emergency C-section and I was terrified of the idea of a c section and I was aiming for a vaginal birth for that exact reason and to be honest completely forgot in the moment a c section was a possibility. When they told me thats what they had to do, i had about 5 minutes to process it all before my baby was out. And it was no where near as bad as I thought.
Try find the positives: you won't see anything, you have time (possibly weeks depending on how far you are) to find out how, what and when happens if you feel that'd settle you, ask your midwife, or a friend whos experienced one everything you'd want to know.
I didn't feel or see anything, and anything I had a question of the doctors answered the best they could with the time they had (as mine was an emergency).

Please for the love of God do not go looking for YouTube videos of a real c section. That's the fastest way to traumatize yourself unnecessarily. It's honestly not so bad and it's a quick surgery typically takes under 30 minutes. The nurses will let you play whatever music you want by your head and your spouse/partner can literally be by your side. The recovery is a process but again it's not horrible horrible terrible. Very rarely something that bad would happen but typically it's manageable with pain meds and support.

I know this doesn’t make sense, but your thoughts are really not focused on the reality of what’s happening, you are consumed by the excitement of meeting your baby. Because you can’t feel pain and you can’t feel the surgery part (you can DEFINITELY feel them jostling your body. It’s not painful you can just feel your body moving) you don’t need to think about the surgery. Practice some mantras, encourage your partner to keep you occupied, and get excited to meet your precious one!

C sections are wild, and there are many unpleasant things about them, but I found the roughest parts to be going numb with the spinal (I had a horrible out of body experience, my blood pressure tanked - I think - and I was feeling real rough. Once numb, it was just fine!) you can also ask for some support if you are really anxious and they can give you some meds, some can cause some memory loss so just be careful

Well the good news for you and your c section is that it sounds like you are able to schedule it! I’ve always heard that scheduled are waaaay better than emergency c’s so there’s that. But hey, best thing I can tell you is that it’s quick. You will be holding your baby forgetting all about the surgery in no time! You got this girl!

I had two c-sections, so truthfully I don't know any different 🤷‍♀️ You don't feel a thing!

I had an emergency unplanned c section, and I’m naturally a very anxious person. My doctors let me play my favorite music, a warm blanket on as much as my upper body as possible, i had the sweetest nurse hold my hand till baby, then he held my baby for me.

Same as you , I had 4 days to prepare 2 weeks early ignore all the things you think you know or see online from others. You got this TALK to your team during pre op 24 hours before or so. Be strong pray and think about your baby . I personally disassociated which I always do to focus on the bigger picture. I also asked to please cover me up because I knew how squeamish I am. Definitely a fast procedure. Endure as much as you can it is an experience that nothing can compare but I would definitely do it again. YOU ARE STRONG 💪🏼

I had an elcs and it was lovely and calm, recovery a breeze. Recommend looking up the 360 mamas for aftercare resources. I found that by the time it came to give birth I just wanted the baby out I was so sick of being pregnant, I think something happens to your brain in the final week to stop you being scared of birth

6 week check post partum

I’m now 8 weeks 3 days post partum and my baby had her 6-8 week check today but I haven’t had any follow up check like I’ve heard other people have at 6 weeks… am I supposed to make the appointment myself? I last saw my midwife at around 5 days post partum and the health visitor last came out at around 6 weeks.

I thought that I’d have my check at the same time as my baby at the doctors but they only checked her so I’m not sure what to do.

Any other April mamas doing the half birthday?

This is our only baby we'll ever have, and I want to celebrate every little thing! He just did his first big boy roll today too 🥲.

Anyone else who is plus size worried about not being able to have a normal on the belly ultrasound or if you have had your scan how did they go about it if they couldn’t do it that way?

Is a wedge pillow and shower chair absolutely necessary post c section? Well it have a major impact on help? I’m running low on all these recovery things and things for the twins but if recovery is that painful i’d like to know and i’ll spend on it anyway 😭😭
