School next year or holding back until 2028?

What are everyone’s thoughts for their LOs born August 2023 on starting school? Are you sending them next September or waiting until the following year?

Our girl was born 6 weeks early (was due September and born August). She’s still in 2-3 size clothes and is definitely the smallest in her nursery class. Undecided on when to send her to school. Seeking advice/opinions please ❤️

Definitely holding him back by a year. He goes to a private nursery now for 15 hours a week and next year I'm planning to send him over to a school nursery to be in a pre-school environment. Reception in 2028. (Btw my son is quite big and also still wears size 2-3!)

Our little girl was born on 26th August and will be starting reception September 2027. She was at a private day nursery 2.5 days a week but she's just started the school pre school 3.5 days a week to get her used to everything. She's the youngest in the year but you wouldn't know it. I'm a teacher and for her, we know her starting next September is the right thing for her but every child is different 😊 x

We’re August 24th & sending to reception next year. U wouldn’t know she’s one of the youngest at nursery, she’s confident and has made lots of friends at nursery 😊

We heavily considered deferring but in the end decided to start next year and continue to support him with with the aspects he struggles with.

I was considering deferring but because they go straight into year one and not into reception I changed my mind because I thought he would just miss a year and I didn’t think it was fair on him to miss out on forming friendships that first year

Similar for us, he was meant to be born mid september but came in August. I'm on the fence I feel differently each week, he was struggling with his toileting at nursery school but since doing better. Tbh I don't see too much of a difference between him and the boys who are almost a year older except for height and they're probably more resrved. If you do, do it make sure your applying for the right thing...you can defer or delay and you'd want to delay you need approval and i think you'd still need to apply for the school this year x

Our boy was born 5 weeks prematurely too so ended up being the 29th of August so he really will be the youngest.

There's lots of pros to holding them back a year, 4 is really young to start formal education and in many countries they start school waaaay later.

But we have decided to send him in 2027 because I don't like the idea of him officially being in the wrong year, everyone will think he's a year younger than he is e.g "happy 5th birthday" when actually it's their 6th. If they go to clubs outside of school, they're normally done on age range so they wouldn't be able to go with their class mates, and I just fear he'd be bullied for it in secondary school "he's so thick he got held back a year at school" (that one may be irrational but I'd never forgive myself).

I think if it's just her size you're worried about, I wouldn't let that be the only reason but ultimately you know best.

You'll need to apply for a defer this year anyway so it's worth looking at your local schools as that may help you clarify

It's just not worth doing, they miss so much! And I don't actually think you legally can not send them? Youde have to really look into it!

My son is at nursery, and he has been since he was 1.5 yo.
This year has been a very different year, more of school environment and he seemed not ready at the beginning of it, but 2 weeks in and he was very confident.
I will send him definitely to reception, won’t hold him back unless he really needs it.

If you or the nursery teachers think shes ready then yes but if yas don't think she is then no,
My eldest was soo cleaver in nursery, could count, add n take away, also spell her name, so i pushed for her to start early, but she wasn't ready socially, it was too much for her so she ended up being held back a year,
Don't make the same mistake I did, make sure she is ready in every way before doing so,
My daughter is still amazing at maths but still isn't good socially, she finds it hard to make friends, n also finds it hard not to stand up for what is right n ends up in arguments and fights, she truly hates bullies, always has.

Baby won’t be held

Quick question as a first time mum, is it normal for your baby to scream when being held by other people? My baby is 4 1/2 months old never had a problem being held by other people and it seems like overnight she will only be held by me and my husband if anyone else tries to hold her or pick her up including grandparents who she sees very regularly, she will just scream and cry and it takes me awhile to calm her down. I’m really hoping it’s just a phase but I don’t quite know what to do to get through it or if there’s anything I can do to be helping the situation it’s frustrating for us because it means we can’t hand her off to people to have a rest! but it’s also I’m sure frustrating for her grandparents who can’t hold her or have a cuddle with her. It also gets very awkward when they ask if they can hold her and all I want to say is no because I can see what’s about to happen…..

13 yr old birthday present

Hiya mamas!
Our neighbour’s turned 13 and I’m looking to get her a present, it’s been like 11 years since I was 13 so i have no clue what teens like nowadays😭😭 anyone got girls around the same age that can guide me towards something she’d like. I was thinking skincare or something but I’m sure her family already got her that, something adhd friendly would be nice as well which is why i was thinking them like craft kits which i enjoyed around that age but i think they’re advertised for younger kids so idk.
Thank you in advance💕

Childcare

My mum looks after my kids two days a week for me. One is in school so it's just for an hour after school the other is pre school age. I use a childminder two days a week and I have one day off a week. My mum initially offered to help me but now all she does is complain. She is also very demanding, expects me to drop things for her at the weekend, buy her coffees and food when we are out and never says thank you and just moans about every aspect of looking after my kids. I've said I'll start using the childminder more but then she says no. I'm really confused as what to do. Has anyone else had a similar experience? We don't get free childcare here because we are in Wales. Thanks

Snacks 😋

Hi girls🩷

What snacks are you giving your little ones? I’m looking for healthy convenient ideas… I’m always worried raw fruit and veg is a bit of a shocking hazard still so wondering what others are giving? I’d really rather not have to cook for a quick snack

Also if you’re giving snacks what time of day are you offering these? X

Am I overreacting

Long story short my partner and I only get one day together every week which is a Sunday. He looks after our girl on Mondays while I work and then he is working the rest of the week (long hours and not home until 10.30pm most nights)

Last Sunday he went fishing all day Sunday, last night he sprung it on me he was coming with me today to a party as he’s going fishing again (left 3.30am and said he will be back for 2pm) it’s now almost 4pm and he’s still not back and I’ve not seen him since yesterday morning briefly before he left for work.

Next Sunday he is out again all day fishing with his mate.

At the moment I am extremely run down with a chest infection and just feeling like I’m being pushed to one side. I understand he wants to be able to do his own things too on his day off but I’m starting to lose my patience because I am so exhausted and the thought of waiting 3 more weeks until I can have any sort of ‘rest’ is killing me.

I don’t think he is taking my feelings or needs into consideration but perhaps I am being selfish in wanting a rest? It’s not helping that our girl is so full on at the moment (22 months) who also has a chest infection and going through a sleep regression waking multiple times a night 😩 I am exhausted
