I stay with him and stroke and pat his back so he knows I’m still there. Sometimes it settles him, sometimes it makes it worse as he wants me to hold him so best to just leave him and let him settle

It depends on their age. Infants can’t self soothe they don’t even know that they’re a separate person from you until close to a year old

You repeatedly respond to any and all needs until the baby/toddler/child learns to themselves. It can happen at any age and should not ever be trained or taught due to risking attachment in the long run.

We went on holiday for a week and my 7 month old had his naps in the pram whilst out for meals, pool area or days out. I don't think we rocked him once. Then when we got back home he didn't want to be rocked, we just place him down and he falls asleep. I think it's just training and keeping it consistent. X

I don’t 🤷♀️ this is largely based on temperament which isn’t something we can control. My youngest will sometimes partially wake up and she tugs on her hair to soothe herself back to sleep. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but I always respond when she needs me (she’s 19 months).
My oldest is almost 5 and still comes in our bed every night. He definitely can’t self soothe back to sleep. Obviously I always respond to his needs as well, he just has a very different temperament when it comes to sleep!

Wait until they're old enough to develop the skill themselves. You can't teach it, especially to a young baby

Use the shh/patt method and sitting in a rocking chair to help regulate them and clam down then I’d place baby drowsy in crib and allow them to connect the dots you have to give them space to try.. a little fussing is ok
Currently working with a sleep training consultant and baby is sleeping in crib and self soothing! If you are interested I can send you the link 🔗 for the consult I’m using :)

I stay with my baby until he falls asleep. Sometimes he cries, and I'll just lay my hand on him, and let him cry until he falls asleep, sometimes he will take a binky and that helps him settle. Once he's asleep I can usually go do what I need

You don’t, they develop the skill on their own when they are ready. I’ve never met an adult who needs to be rocked or fed to sleep.

Wait till theyre 3 and have the ability to. If theyre not crying you can leave them alone and see if they settle themselves but to actually self sooth they dont have the developed part of their brain for that. The pre frontol cortex which controls your emotions and allows you to sooth yourself starts developing at 3 and finished sometimes between the age of 23 to 28 some evidence to show 33 recently.
I’m looking up and getting ads for a million things, and it’s hard to know what women ACTUALLY USE while breastfeeding and what is just useless crap. I’ve heard nipple cream/butter is a great help, but I have no clue. Let me know what you all love and use.

Before this is read wrong, I love being pregnant and love being my baby girls home 🥰 but anybody else struggling with loving their new self, growing my little girl has been one of the best experiences ever but also came with a big challenge that I never expected to face.
Learning to love a new version of myself has become the hardest part of pregnancy for me personally and think it’s one of the challenges nobody ever talks about which I get why, when I tell people about it and the struggle I’m facing many of times I’m faced with a response of “be grateful your having a baby” whilst I am extremely grateful I am also adjusting to a new version that I have no control over.
Whilst I maybe uncomfortable with the way I am now, knowing that I’m her safe space and her first home will always bring me comfort.

Hey everyone.
Sorry for the long read but please bare with me.
My husband and I have been together 7.5 years and married for 4 years. We have a nearly 5 year old little boy together.
Everything at the beginning of our relationship was everything I had ever wanted in a relationship. My husband was kind, caring, helpful, ambitious, strong etc. We both spoke about the want for our own family and how we would want to be as parents. Moving forward we got pregnant (planned), pregnancy wasn't easy and I was in and out of hospital a lot during 3rd trimester. My husband was perfect and excited etc throughout pregnancy until the 3rd trimester hit and then went of the rails a bit, drinking etc and not really there when needed.
I had experience with children and helped raised my neices, my husband had no experience. Neither of us had a good upbringing.
Roll on birth and my husband had a face like a slapped bum, our little boy was born absolutely perfect. I was really poorly and lost quite a lot of blood and was being sick. I had the shakes so bad I was struggling to hold my son. My husband left me before I was even moved to the ward whilst being unwell. He left me to go meet his dad at the pub to wet the babies head.
After we were discharged home my husband just took a back seat with everything. I done everything for our son all whilst recovering from a cseaction. My son was a poorly baby and I was also back and forth to Dr's and hospital with him on my own. My husband got a job where it was very long hours and having to stay away a few times a week for work. I was keeping the house, doing everything for our son and keeping everything together with no village. Roll on my son's like 3 weeks old and my husband says he feels nothing for our son. Shortly after this he has a massive breakdown. I supported him through all of this, took him to appointments whilst doing everything for my son who was still poorly.
For 1.5 years I done everything for my son and for everyone else and kept everything together.
Roll on to nearly 4 years later (sons nearly 5) and turns out my son is neurodivergent, has a eating disorder, now has a PEG fitted, has ketotic hyperglycemia, asthma and allergies. I'm dealing with this day in day out all whilst dealing with my own chronic health conditions.
My husband tries but he just shouts at our son a lot and gets frustrated. I feel like we just butt heads and I end up having to defend our child. He still trys to be sexual and kiss etc but I have no desire at all and even him just touching me just makes me want to pull away.
I feel like he hurt me more than anyone or anything possible. He ruined what was meant to the best time of our lives and ruined my whole experience entering motherhood and I just can't get past that. I've spoken to him and told him all this. He keeps saying he's sorry and he will change but it's just empty promises. He's not the man I feel in love with and he's not the father he was meant to be or that I want for our child.
Any advice please?

My 2.5 year old is fussing and fighting everytime I take her for her nap recently. I persist and then she sleeps for nearly 2 hours.
Normally, she would then go to bed at 8pm, take about 30 mins and then fall asleep. However, recently she will be laying in bed from 8-10pm with her eyes open like not sleeping at all.
Is she ready to drop her nap? Or is it likely to be something else

Has anyone else got experience of this...my 4.5 month old baby is extremely active during his "light sleep" phases. He sleeps like a log for an hour/hour and half or so after putting him down and then he starts to flail about, I'm assuming as he goes into a light sleep phase. He's asleep whilst he doing this (legs and arms flapping about, rubbing his face etc) but if he's left on his own he will wake himself up, so I have to pick him up and rock him until he goes back into a deep sleep again. For ages I thought it was because he was struggling with gas but I don't think it's that anymore. I'm already co-sleeping with him but only getting max 90 mins sleep at a time and I'm pretty exhausted. Haa anyone else had this with their baby? Does it improve once they can roll about and get comfortable? 🤞🏻🤞🏻
