Is anyone considering deferring their July babies starting primary school?
We're applying for schools at the minute, but I'm worried my son won't be ready to start in September as he has some additional needs.
I'd be interested to know others thoughts, especially if you are planning to defer the extra year.

We’re not deferring as we believe our son will thrive at school & will be more than ready but don’t feel bad at all for deferring! Every child & family is different, do what’s right for your son & your family ☺️

I don't think I even have the option to start my son in school next September 🤔 he started nursery this year and will be there for two years. Won't be starting primary 1 til the September after his fifth birthday :) x

We also wont be deferring. Our daughter will be in the same classes with most of her current friends which will only help her to thrive. Xx

Same as Alex - i personally won’t as we know my son will absolutely love school but it’s different for each child!
I would say though if your child has additional needs, depending on what they are sometimes it’s better to get children into school sooner rather than later so if they need support etc the school can get the ball rolling asap. I used to be a teacher and if a child started and was struggling, the school would get the Senco to work with the parents to help ease the child in (starting with half days for example) and work with their teacher so they had the extra support in the classroom. I know each school is different but mine was pretty proactive about getting help and support for the children with additional needs. I’ve also seen how well some SEN children have progressed since starting school so for me personally I would get the child in sooner rather than later.
Maybe when you’re looking round schools you can have a chat with their Senco and discuss your concerns.

Yes, 100%! My own personal opinion is that all summer-borns should be deferred because it's not fair on them to attend school with children that are a year older. Even kids who do well in the beginning will have disadvantages later on. Also, no-one ever regretted delaying! The experiences shared speak for themselves. There's a brilliant Facebook group where you can read such experiences, plus get a lot of advice and support from lawyers about the process.

My son is a July baby and autistic. It gave us a year to gather the evidence we needed to get an ehcp and eventually get him into an sen school. Year1 was where he struggled as it became more formal learning. Academically he was fine but socially, sitting down for carpet time and doing things like putting his coat on due to struggling with his fine and gross motor skills he struggled with.
My daughter is a December child but started pre verbal but if she hadn’t on started she wouldn’t have the ehcp or the weekly speech therapy and daily speech intervention from school. Academically and socially she’s thriving.

I am as my son is a July baby and is autisic with global development delay

We're not deferring and when I spoke to pre school about my concerns, they said he will thrive at school and that we have nothing to worry about. I know it seems mad when they've just turned 3 but so much changes in a year.
However, if there are additional needs then this absolutely has to be considered. My sister has deferred her child a year but he has an autism diagnosis and is non verbal.
Can someone give me the courage as we have a 6month old together and i live with my inlaws.
I need to know i’ll somehow do this, and we will be okay. I fully depend on him financially aswell. I have no savings. And my family lives in another country.
Edit: I need courage to leave, not stay. And its more serious than miscommunication.

My husband and I had our son in December and at first he couldn't leave me alone(we didnwait the full 6 weeks before actually doing anything) but around March or April he kinda just lost interest in anything pertaining to us... since then it just seems like any time I try to initiate anything intimate there's always a reason as to why we can't but when he goes to sleep he wants to touch on me like he hadn't just given me a million excuses as to why he didn't want to. We've been together for 7 years and married for 1 so I know it's normal for couples to lose their spark I just didn't think it was going to be so one sided or soon I mean hell we're both in our mid 20s. It makes me feel like there's something wrong with me and I just don't know what to do when I bring it up he gets mad at me like I'm accusing him of something but I just want to know what's changed.

Honestly, I don’t know how some Mums get things done. I found newborn infinitely easier than 3 months. His wake windows are long and his naps are short. He doesn’t like to be put down for too long. He seems to be getting bored of his toys. He loves people and social interaction. He loves going out for walks & outings but between that when I need to get things done at home, how do I!? He goes in the carrier but it’s 50/50 chance whether he’ll take to it. If he had it his way I would be carrying him around all day. What is everyone else doing?

Am I mean for keeping my toddler off pre-school in the fear we catch a sickness bug that’s going round?
We have plans next weekend and I really don’t want us coming down with anything before hand 🤦🏻♀️🙈

My boy is 3 weeks and Im struggling so much. Every feed feels tense as i don't know if he'll drink calmly and then go to sleep or fuss/squirm/cry and spit up. I don't know how I'm ever going to leave the house with him like this. How do people do it? He was fussy this morning and I ended up just handing him over to my husband. Once he settled a d fell asleep I just lay in bed cuddling him, too scared to move or get up and do anything. I didn't have any breakfast and only managed to get up at lunch time as I needed to make him some more formula. I love him so much but I feel like such a useless mother.

I don't know who to share it with, because I don't want to come off as ungrateful for such a healthy, big boy.. but my son is now 2 and a half, and officially 92% in height, and 94% in weight. He was born at 21 inches, and has always been in the high 80-90% range for height, weight, and head size.
It's just.. it's hard. He's 2. He's still waiting to be held all the time, and it was starting to be a struggle to hold him starting around a year old. It's not fair to him. I feel guilty. He didn't understand why I would have to put him down so quickly when he was younger, and I hope it didn't make him feel like I didn't want to or something.
It's a weird situation that none of my friends can relate to.
Does anyone here relate?
Thanks for listening 💕
(Adding that I have used baby carriers, hip packs, etc. He doesn’t like them.)
