Nursery said son is sick more often than other kids

Hi everyone,

Our son is currently ill with his latest cold and the owner of the nursery told me to maybe think about giving him vitamins as he gets sick more than the other kids do.

We give him vitamin d drops already but would vitamins work? I'm wondering if we need to feed him differently - though he has quite a varied diet I thought... We give him carbs, proteins and veg and full fat milk/ cheese, he likes fruit and veg. Only thing we don't regularly feed is red meat but he has fish and chicken.

Just wondering if anyone has any insights on this as I'm open to ideas!

I had this with our nursery for our little boy as he kept getting sent home with loose poop and high temperatures. Took him to the hospital as his temperature situation was pretty much every day and turns out he was iron deficient so had iron supplements. He’s fine and fit now but now due to our family diet (we are vegetarian) I give both of my children well baby multi vitamins which gets mixed in with their first drink of the day. Might be worth taking him to the hospital or getting doctor to check him over just to be safe . We are now also waiting for results to see if he is dairy intolerant as he still has frequent loose poops.

I would get his iron levels checked especially if you aren’t feeding red meat. My son (12-24 months at the time) was getting sick constantly and it turned out he had very low ferritin likely from too much milk interfering with iron absorption as we actually eat quite a bit of red meat. Have limited all dairy intake to mornings only now. He also has well baby multi-vitamins and he’s only been sick once since June which a massive feat for us - he was constantly sick before that. Low iron is a major reason toddlers can sick. I’d take him to your GP and state the nursery has flagged he’s extra sick compared to others

Mat pay / financial worries

Looking for some support really. I’ve been on mat leave since March, of which I got 6 months full pay which has now ended. I know so many people don’t have this and I am so grateful for it. I’m now on stat pay which runs out mid December, then the £0 kicks in.

I earn significantly more than my partner, and I just feel like I’m paying for everything for the baby, and I don’t know what to do when my money runs out. I had savings to top up my stat pay, but after that, nothing.

He’s a fantastic partner and dad to our baby, he works 12 hour days plus overtime, yet I still earn more. We’ve stripped our outgoings right back, but an example is it costs him nearly £400 a month on fuel just to get to work. There are no jobs doing what he does closer to home right now, he’s a tradie with a particular skill set. We don’t do anything special, even just the cost of food and essential bills is astronomical 😢

I just feel so overwhelmed with all the financial burden being on me. I do have a job to go back to, but because I moved across the country whilst pregnant I realistically can’t go back there because it’s a 400 mile round commute. So I’m also trying to find a job to start in January but it’s proving so difficult.

Just needed a rant really. Why does having a baby only financially burden the woman. Also being the one that earns the most sucks. 😭

Vent

I need to vent a minute my husband and I were arguing Saturday which yes it was mostly my fault I started my period and just was a bad day mood well because of it he’s basically told me to piss off until he calms down which theres been so much tension this past week because of it that I feel like I’m going to explode it doesn’t help that the only people I have to talk to adult wise are him and my mom and nobody I can vent to about it (my mom stays out of it and doesn’t want to hear about it unless it gets physical). Also I’m a SAHM and since my car went down me and him share his truck or did anyways I was supposed to get a car with income tax but it now seems like we may not make it until then so with me not working and no car I could be stuck…

i guess i’m looking for validation

My daughter is 6 weeks tomorrow. we have been dealing with colic for the last 4 weeks because of her formula. thankfully we figured it out about 2 weeks ago. but the witching hour still hits pretty hard in our house. anyway, i have a 2.7yo toddler. my daughter usually cries nonstop from 6:00-9:00pm. my sons bedtime is 8:00pm and we do a nighttime reset at 7:00pm every night. my husband works night shift and leaves at 6:30pm. i babywear my daughter while my son helps me clean up. at 8:00 i put her down in a safe location and do my sons bedtime. i take him to his room, read him a book, sing the “now i lay me down to sleep” prayer. then sit for a second. then go back downstairs to my daughter. during this time she is of course crying and downstairs alone. i feel like such a sh*t mom. but this is literally the only time my son gets me to himself. so am i really a sh*t mom for this or am i just in my head?

Am I wrong?

Am I wrong if I don't let hubby take care of our 1 month old if he's drinking? I'm not talking about one drink I'm talking a few sips of hard liquor and a couple beers. I don't feel bad bc as a former weed smoker he said if I happen to indulge again I would have to have a few bottles made for him so that he can take care of her. I wouldn't even smoke until she went to bed for the night. Tonight he took her from me after she was a bit upset after a bath and he had been drinking and reeked of cigarettes which irritated me. He also wanted to feed her while laying down which i am against because of gas. He always says I act like I'm doing this alone and I know I'm not but he never takes the initiative to do much himself and when he does it's usually after a few drinks. Idk just looking for anyone in a similar situation, not judgements. I've already had a conversation about the cigarette smoke with him but he brushes it off. 🙄🙄
