My child recently started nursery and got a birthday invitation for a first birthday. I'm not really familiar with the child, so was thinking to put £10 in a card. Is this an appropriate amount, or would £20 be better? I haven't been to a kids party in a very long time, so don't really know what is the norm at the moment. Thanks

£10 is definitely the going rate, £20 seems too much. The norm is to buy a gift though, whether you know them well or not, people usually just buy something generic that the age would like.

I personally wouldn’t do cash for a child. Just because they don’t understand what that means necessarily (although I’m sure the parent would like it and could get their kid whatever they want/need).
I go to the dollar sore and get a few things. I wouldn’t spend much. Just 1-2 small things. My default things are:
- books
- colouring books
- sticker or sticker books
I personally stay away from play doh or bubbles because my son makes a mess haha. But those are small, inexpensive things too.
I don’t know if you have a store where you live that sell things for 1-2£ ($1-2 here).

A small gift from a shop less than £10 is the norm. Cash isn't really expected
Me and my husband have 2 children, a 2 year old and a 2 week old. My husband has decided to split from me as he no longer feels our relationship is working.
He is planning on moving out tomorrow and this leaves me with no help whilst recovering from an emergency c section.
Am I legally allowed to move temporarily back to my parent’s house (about a 3 hour drive away) until I have recovered. I will not cope at home with my toddler and newborn whilst recovering (husband was previously helping as he WFH). My parents have offered to help until I recover and can return home.
My husband is annoyed they he might not see our children whilst I’m staying at my parents. He told me that I’m trying to take his children away but I just cannot cope with looking after my toddler and newborn alone whilst recovering.
