Self Soothing

Please tell me someone has a magic trick to help!
I believe we are hitting the 3/4 month regression and I’ve read everywhere that the key is to self sooth. Anyone got any tips or tricks for how to get this successfully nailed?

I don't know if this is helpful or not but dummies all the way 😅

Unfortunately the self soothing concept is rooted in sleep training culture. It’s everywhere online because it’s not regulated. The idea was put forward by two random men over 100 years ago with the intention to sever the mother/baby bond and its methods are still repeated today.

Self soothing isn’t something you can teach a baby, it is temperamental. Your best bet is posting for help in the Facebook group ‘the beyond sleep training project’ as they have an absolute ton of resources that can help!! They’ve been amazing every time I’ve asked for help with my son x

My baby can self sooth pretty well at 2 months old, we can put her in the crib when we can tell she’s sleepy and over half the time she’ll settle herself, but we didn’t really teach that to her it kinda just happened, we use a dummy and during the day for naps we give her a blanket and tuck it next to her chin as she uses it to rub her face on and stroke at the blanket with her hand (I know it’s probably not advised but she’s always supervised and once she’s asleep we take it away) we also use a light projector at night sometimes if she’s being more fussy, it just projects coloured starts onto the ceiling and she loves it

Hi I somewhat disagree with the comment that's against (gentle!!) sleep training. My firstborn son was indeed not able to be trained, but he was a different type of baby, extremely high need, always on edge, always overstimulated with everything and just lots and lots of sensory and emotional needs/issues. I tried with him and it never worked. However I had my daughter one year after him and she was super easy to train, so yes it is temperament but why not make your life easier when you can! She had witching hour until around 3 months old but from 6PM-12AM and what we did is we did all the things needed to settle her for bedtime and when she was sleepy/asleep put her in the cot and left her with white noise. Then we would listen for the type of crying. She often would wake up in the beginning with this very low, slow, sleepy type of moaning and if it didn't increase we let her to it until she fell back asleep and if she did that for longer than a certain period of time or the moaning became loud crying

We came back in and soothed her again and repeated that over and over for 1-2 months or so and by 6 months old she was basically sleeping through the night and when sometimes she did wake up we usually didn't have to come back in anymore because her moaning would last for maybe 5 min and that's it. We know our babies the best and if we feel like this doesn't affect them in any negative way and we know they feel safe and content, then in my opinion we can do it. Again, I emphasize that with my firstborn it didn't work no matter what we tried and had to accept that at that time of his life no solution was possible and we basically never slept

Sleeping and not waking for feeds.

My baby is 3 weeks old and the last two nights has slept for 5 and a half hours without waking for a feed. I’m waking him up to feed him at this point as I’m panicking he’s gone too long without a feed. Is anyone else’s baby sleeping for this long at a time? Is it normal?

Super absorbent nappies

Can anyone recommend super absorbent nappies that also don't cost a fortune?

We've tried ALDI's Mamia and Pampers nappies but as soon as there's thr slightest bit of wetness our girl is screaming and wriggling to get changed

12 week sleep

My baby is 3 months next week and has gone from sleeping 5-6 hour stretches to waking every 1.5-2 hours.

She’s also started sucking her thumb when she wakes. I don’t know if I should leave her to try and self settle as I’m currently feeding every time but it’s exhausting.

Any advice? I’m really hoping it’s a growth spurt or regression.

Leaving breastfeeding baby

Has anyone’s baby gone about 5–6 hours without breastfeeding? My baby doesn’t take a bottle or formula, so I’m wondering what happens if I have to leave her with someone for a few hours without me there to breastfeed.

She’s around the weaning stage now, so do you think she would eat some food if I’m not around, or would she maybe accept formula if I’m not there? She absolutely refuses the bottle at the moment.

I’m just wondering how other mums have handled this because I’m a bit worried about leaving her without milk ❤️

Entitled MIL

Has anyone's MIL feel she's entitled to the baby.... We have a very rocky relationship after she ruined my wedding. But she's so over bearing. I was trying to rebuild the relationship while pregnant for the baby's sake but my god is she getting to me. It's the little snarky comments like "a dummy is
So council house" "it looks so cheap". She then comes over & never leaves giving my advice when I didn't ask for it. Commenting on how much my own mother sees the baby over her. I'm so over it.....
