I have been having regular growth scans due to low PAPP-A results in 12 week bloods (over concerns of small baby), however from 32 weeks, baby has been tracking big! Today my scan showed her weight at 4.8kg and on the 100th percentile!
I have done loads of research around big babies and understand measurements can be wrong/inaccurate...but they can also be right 40% of the time.
I have only gained 8kg during my pregnancy so am having a hard time to think baby is almost 5kg!
Felt like the consultant was pushing all of the risks, and is now saying I need to have an induction or C-section asap. I said I wanted to wait until 41 weeks to see what my body does naturally and she said she doesn't feel comfortable with that based on the scans.
I am torn over what to do...
Am I in denial of having a big baby?
Am I grieving the vaginal birth that I've been preparing for through hyponobirthing, dates, raspberry leaf tea, Accupuncture?
Should I attempt induction to just end up with a C-section anyway as hardly hear any good stories from induction.
Really torn over what to do... Have another appt tomorrow to discuss options again/decide.
Any reassurance / stats / experiences would be great. Thanks xx

I had almost exactly this scenario, baby was scanned every 4 weeks and tracking at 47th centile, then at 36 weeks we were told he was suddenly over 100th and weighing over 10lbs already. Drs pushed for c section and I ended up settling for an induction (I had my heart set on spontaneous labour and the birthing pool). They kept repeating words like 'significant risk' and 'stillbirth' which made me feel I didn't really have a choice.
Baby was born 38+4 weeks, 9lbs7oz, perfectly healthy and in proportion. I managed a vaginal birth without any assistance.
What I would say is, although I'm still bitter about having the induction (as I'd had one previously and really didn't want another), I wouldn't do it differently - I could not have forgiven myself if something had gone wrong because I waited, that's just how I personally feel.
However, that all said, the induction was not as bad as I'd had previously.
There's no right answer, just what's right for you. Best of luck xx

I had a 97 centile baby. She was born 9lbs 9oz. I said I’d rather a section than induced from the beginning of my pregnancy. I had an induction pushed on me and almost felt bullied into it. For nothing to happen for 4 days after I was induced and ended having an elective section in the end anyway. If I was to go through it again I’d stand my ground and opt for a section, there was no way she was leaving my body that way in a safe way
She was born at 39+6 too so she wasn’t even overdue, just a big girl

Had a baby measuring on the 97th centile during scans. I went into spontaneous labour at 40w+5 my water broke at home and contractions started 3hrs later. Went to hospital just after water broke and laboured for 21 hours but didn’t go pasted 5cm so I was proposed to start the drip or to go for a non emergency c section.
I choose C section which happened about 2hrs later and I don’t regret at all, I keep very good memories of it.
It’s the recovery that was something else 😅
Baby was born 4kg (8lbs13) so she was indeed a pretty big baby

My baby was measuring long and big (98th) and she was born 10.5lb lol.
My niece measured 95th and came out 9.13lb. So it was quite accurate for us.
I opted for a c-section just to minimise risk and thought I’ll take the hit. I was gutted not to have my ‘proper birth’ seen as my first was a full on emergency job. But now I’m at wk13 with a perfectly healthy baby I literally couldn’t care how she was born. It’s daft what you play up in your own head. My recovery has been great each time I gave myself a full month both times to allow myself to be looked after and just recover. By week 4 (me personally) am up driving and back to normality (with care).
My babies legs were measuring 98th so I was defo having a long baby that was accurate for sure & I didn’t want induction
I didn’t realise how serious the shoulder dystortia so I was gunna do everything in my power to be awake this time around lol but it’s total personal preference and everyone has their “thing” mine was to be awake

My baby was measuring about 9lb at 39 weeks and was born via emergency c section at 41+ 5 at 10lb 10. I did attempt a vaginal delivery but he had a 38cm head and was also back to back so it just didn't happen. I probably would have opted for the section if I knew hiw big he would have been xx

Wooow that’s crazy, I thought mine was big at 4kg being born… pls update after you give birth and let us know how big she was!! Also I hope you didn’t buy any newborn clothes, she’s not gunna wear them 😂😂😂😂 my scan weight was accurate tho

I found out by chance, at a private scan, that i might be having gdm. After i got diagnosed at 34 weeks i had 2 more scans, every time being told that the baby is big. During my pregnancy i had very small appetite and physically couldn't eat too much, so i barely gained any weight. All the extra weight was the baby and everything else that came with the pregnancy, so you couldn't tell from my bump that i had a big baby (but the size of a bump is not an actual indication for the baby's size anyway). The last scan i had at 37 weeks said my baby was 4.6kg (i think). My baby was 5kg at birth.
Every single time they said he is big, and every scan was measuring him bigger, so we chose to believe them and went with c section and it was the best decision we made as we could not believe what a big baby we had 😅

Hey i got induced at 39 weeks and had a super smooth labour. I got induced as babys belly measured big on previous scan and then I had a scan due to reduced movements and they said baby wasnt measuring where he should (they never elaborated whether he was too big or too small but guessing too small, id also previously had a growth scan as my bump was consistently measuring 2 - 3 weeks behind) i went in at 1cm dilated and had my first gel which got me to 2cm / 2 ½ cm, did plenty of walking and had my second gel which got me to 3 ½ cm and my waters started bulging. I had back to back contractions but only laboured for 4hrs from the moment my contractions kicked in until he came out.

So me personally I wouldn't wait. I mean, that's a huge baby. Growth scans measure length rather than weight and there's a margin of error but don't forget that can go in either direction - so yeah baby could be smaller but also could be bigger! With an induction, there's always a higher chance of needing assistance anyway, which you're already at risk from for a heavier baby. Personally I'd be very tempted by a C-section. But it's your body and whatever level of risk you're comfortable with. You could always give yourself 2 or 3 days to go into labour naturally but I personally would NOT go to 41 but that's just me. Also I had to chuckle over "I am torn over what to do" due to the unfortunate word choice if you see what I mean 🤣 sorry love. Anyway I wish you all the best and lots of luck. Sending good vibes x

My baby was measuring on the 97th centile and was born spot on on the 97th centile- 4.5kgs. We waited until 40+3 weeks to have the induction which lasted 3 days but he was born via emergency c-section in the end. I wanted a natural birth but to be honest I was glad it was a c-section when I saw his head..
How long after a c section can you have sex

I know you don’t have to and midwives have seen it all but it be a personal preference if anyone be seeing down there. However 35 weeks worth of baby bump be blocking my view and I feel like I can barely reach at this point. How are you girlies finding it because the patch work look is not for me and some places I feel like imma throw my back out just to reach 😅

I’m 41+1 today and still only 1cm dilated, I’ve tried everything to get this baby out of here. I have an induction booked for 41+5 but would rather go into spontaneous labour! Does anyone have any similar stories of not needing the induction at around the same time or anything that worked for them?

so i will be 4 months pp this friday and since i gave birth my appetite has been, well, non existent. as well as my ability to even drink anything. before pregnancy i could probably drink 8 water bottles in a day now it seems like i could go all day with just having a one sip of anything and not finishing it. i can’t catch up on sleep, even when i do it’s not enough or im still sleepy. i don’t have any energy to do anything.. not even get up out of bed. any thoughts?
