Opinions on rocking chairs?

Hi everyone,
My hubby and I are expecting our first baby (yay!) and just wondering if any mums out there who already have a baby, whether or not rocking chairs are worth it? We don’t really have space for one. But I like the idea of getting to comfort my baby while sitting down, because I’m sure I’ll be exhausted. However I’ve heard some babies still want you to stand up? I’m also afraid of falling asleep on the chair with them which is super dangerous…thoughts?

If you don’t have room don’t get it. For us it was nice with our first so I could rock them but he was a contact napped for ours so I wish ours reclined so I could lean back too and sleep if I needed to instead of just sitting up. I didn’t all the time use it for feeding. I’d just sit on the couch. Especially with our second I just used the couch a lot. This time I have a recliner rocking chair and plan to use it a lot when feeding and if I just need to lay down and baby is sleeping on me

You can make it safe if you sleep and baby sleeps. Like having your arms up and stuff or even just resting your eyes on your head instead of having to just sit straight up which is never fun. Especially if you end up having a c section. Because if you don’t have room you don’t need it

My husband loves the rocking chair and has put way more hours on it than I have so much that when I messed up the cushion (forgetting it can't go in the laundry) he went out and got a new one. We do have space for it though.

Another option is bouncing on an exercise ball, he did that a lot with our first while I was recovering.

Congratulations on your first! If you don’t have the space, I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to have a rocking chair. My first baby knew when we’d sit down and threw a fit so we mostly bounced him standing up. My second actually prefers to be held still and can fall asleep on her back so we haven’t used our rocking chair much for either baby. It really is different for every baby.

Like Gabrielle said, the reclining part of our rocking chair was actually way more useful for when baby finally did fall asleep on my chest, I could lean back and not break my back. Since space is limited, I’d recommend waiting to see if your baby prefers being rocked to sleep. We had several different rockers and didn’t use any of them for my first and now finally using the bouncer for my second.

Congratulations 🎉

Unfortunately, this is super personal.. I NEED a comfortable place to nurse, which is a supportive glider/recliner. I found exactly what I wanted on marketplace 7 years ago and I've not stopped using it for nursing and comforting my babies. I MAKE room for it because it's that important to me. Others are fine with their bed, their couch, etc.

We never had the room and tbh we didn’t need one with either baby. I comforted my babies sitting, standing, laying down, on the sofa, in moment.

Both my babies slept on their own without rocking, I still got lots of cuddles and safe sleepy feeds. A rocking chair would have been a waste of space and money for us and even if I got space for baby 3 I still wouldn’t bother.

We had a glider and adored it.

Got this one, and we are obsessed! 6 months postpartum, and we use it every single day! https://chitaliving.com/products/elysian-power-swivel-glider-recliner-with-adjustable-headrest

I wouldn't force it if you're short on space. None of my kids have ever settled in a rocking chair, they always want to be walked around. Every baby is different but I personally wouldn't spend money on one.

Ok thanks everyone! ❤️I may wait on the chair then to see if we need it

Help, at my wits end

My little boy is 5 months old. From two weeks old he's been an awful sleeper, whenever we put him in his next 2 me crib he would be so active (leg slamming, arms flapping, rubbing his face) that it would wake him up after 20 minutes or so. When he was about 2 months old me and my partner started sleeping in shifts so one of us could sit up and hold him. A month ago I started co-sleeping with him to just try and get done extra sleep overnight but to be honest, it makes little difference. I'm currently up for the 3rd time in 4 hours, I'm lucky if ever get more than an hours sleep next to him. My partner has him at the start and end of the night so I get a few hours then but it's really taking its toll and we're both extremely sleep deprived. I guess I just thought by 5 months his active sleep might've calmed down but if anything it seems to getting worse the last few nights, and he will only sleep being held.

I also miss my partner massively, we've not slept in the same room for months. I feel like I've missed out on that lovely part of being a new mummy and having baby in the crib next to us, and nights have just become something to dread.

Haa anyone else been through this with their little one and when did it improve? It feels neverending at the moment and I just need to know it will improve at some point.

Sleeping bags

I’m a FTM looking for some advice please.

I’ve just started putting my 9 week old in her sleeping bag at night the temperature when we go to bed is around 20/21 degrees I have been putting her in a 1 tog sleeping bag with her sleepsuit per the guide on the sleep bag. The temperature is dropping to about 16/17 degrees throughout the night making it colder.

Would you continue to put her in the 1 tog or would you put her in a warmer tog when she’s going to bed knowing the temperature is going to drop? I am worried about overheating her. TIA xx

To wash or not to wash - be honest

If your baby is finally sleeping after skipping most of the naps of the day. Would you skip over the bath or wake your baby for bath time and the rest of the night time routine?
