Looking for childcare advice

My baby will turn 1 year in January, and I resume full-time work at 7 to 7(I will enquire about flexible working) if I can start from 8am since the childminder and nursery I have contacted starts at 7:30. My partner has flexible working already start at 10am but the downside is that he got a job very far where he has to leave early and drive. Basically, drop off and pick up,I have to be present. He works Monday to Thursday. My working days varies including both day shift and night shifts. Any advice or enlightenment is much welcome, I feel so lost, and my heart is breaking for my little one.

Do u have family that could help when u can't do pick up or drop off?

I know some people request for things like permanent nights. If that was something that could work for you x

Have a look at flexible working and speak to your managed and HR for what is possible. They have to consider all requests and give one of the 7 reasons to decline. You are in the best position now as you are returning to work after pregnancy and maternity so they need to support you. Here’s a link to acas website, https://www.acas.org.uk/statutory-flexible-working-requests , but have an honest conversation with work for what would work for you and them x

Could you reduce your working hours?
Does your partner have to go into work or does he have the option to WFH? What time is he home if he doesn't start until 10?

Are most dental offices not kid friendly

I had a dental cleaning appointment today. I walked into the dental office with my 5 month old infant in the stroller only to be told they couldn’t accommodate him. Then they said I didn’t have an appointment at that time anymore. It was cancelled without my knowledge. I asked why because I had received a text on my phone regarding the appointment. Apparently, I was supposed to confirm before coming and because I did not, they cancelled my appointment. I made a mental note to never return to the same establishment.
I was upset it was cancelled and yes I was upset they didn’t want my well-behaved child in their office. They were sort of rude about it. That’s how I felt when they said they cancelled my appointment when I said I could reschedule but it was not necessary as it was cancelled. I didn’t get a text saying it was cancelled. I also get a lot of texts, emails, and calls. It takes a lot out of me to respond to everything. I don’t have help with my son. As a mother, it also took a lot out of me to drive there with an infant and show up. It’s not easy to lug a child around everywhere and still have time to self. I realized most establishments are not friendly to people with children. Workplaces especially. It’s hard to function with a kid and everything needs to be planned out in advance.
No wonder our birth rates are declining…
My kid started daycare this week only to be told he was potentially exposed to RSV on his very first day. So I didn’t send him to the daycare and instead took him with me to my dental appointment this time.

The crying never stops and I'm at breaking point

Does anyone else feel like if their baby is awake their crying? Even feeding is a nightmare and he cries throughout it just taking a couple sips at a time. Doctors and health visitors say he's fine as gaining weight and just to ride it out basically but it's so difficult! I'm jealous of all the mums that can take their babies out for walks etc., I can't as he'll just cry and by the time I've finished the cycle of a nap (always contact nap), feed and finally get him to stop crying etc he wants to sleep again, it's making me feel so isolated. Are any other mums in the same boat? How do you cope?! I can't even eat for most of the day or get anything done in the house until my partner gets home as hes either sleeping on me or feeding or having a meltdown. I feel so guilty all the time and also feel robbed of the experience of these early months. I know there's probably no solution, I guess I just need a vent or not feel so alone :(

Toddler mums how are we doing?

My daughter is 17 months old and may I mention that just because she’s a girl it doesn’t make it any easier, girl or boy. Toddlers are hard work!!
I want to check in with all toddler mums because I know for a fact I’m not the only mum that’s sitting in a corner pulling their hair out 😂
Took my daughter to rhyme time today at the library and the first 15 minutes were great, she was going up to everyone and said hi, was just really happy until she wanted to escape and leave the library, it was awful. All the mums were looking at me in horror as I pick her up to take her back into the library and she screamed, scratched my face, threw a toy at my face and was hitting me with full force 🥲my child is genuinely so feral I can’t take her there anymore.
I got home and gave her a nap and then I went downstairs to just cry because it was super overwhelming, the stacks of washing that need doing, the endless tasks of needing to go back out and grab things, on top of a little madam that isn’t having her day today. All of it just got ontop of me, I handle things quite well but today it’s felt impossible.
Reality of having a little girl who is so on it, it can be so exhausting.
How has everyone else’s day gone so far? How are we coping?

Partners

Is anyone else’s husband/boyfriend terrible at soothing the baby? I keep feeling like I need to let them work it out but at the same time I can see they are both having an awful time and it’s hard not to intervene. I hate seeing baby crying and he instantly stops when I grab him, but I also know I need to let my husband learn to deal with it so it is really hard to know what to do.
