Life with PCOS

Hi ladies,

I am new here, and I feel so much better, knowing that I'm not alone. I have read so many stories of different women that have really uplifted me.

My husband and I finally decided to start having a family, but only to find out that my left tube is blocked and can't be unblocked because the blockage is too close to the ovary, and I also have PCOS.

I was immediately put on Metformin, Inositol, Ova boost to improve the quality of eggs, Bromocriptine because I had high levels prolactin, Meniphib to regulate my periods, folic acid as well as some antibiotics because I had an infection.

You can imagine how my mind and body felt, I was all over the place because of hormones being put into balance by the tones of meds I have been taking.

The Dr advised us that if we want to have a baby now, we should consider IVF because our chances are too slim to have a baby the natural way (I was gutted).

I just wanted to find out from you ladies what I need to do to cope with PCOS and is IVF the only way I can conceive with PCOS as you know IVF is so expensive and also what if it doesn't work.... šŸ˜žšŸ˜”

Hi, I also have PCOS. All I can say is have faith in the process. Pregnancy with PCOS does happen. I saw a fertility Endocrinologist and after treatment was able to conceive. Of course each person is different and we had different problems it sounds like but just know this is not your fault. It's not something you have done, that was the biggest thing for me. Accepting that. I'm here if you would like to continue to talk or if you just need to vent.

Hello dear.
I am also diagnosed with PCOS and we are going through fertility treatment after 2 years of trying on our on.
I am positive we will get pregnant by our baby is taking its time to get home.
I recommend trying with some medication to make you ovulate and see if you can skip the IVF.
IVF is our next step if the triggers don’t work but we are hopeful.
We wish you good luck and I am here if you ever want to chat šŸ’
Hugs and baby dust your way.

I was one Letrozole as well.

Hi! I don’t have PCOS but I would highly recommend setting up a consultation with a Reproductive Endocrinologist. They can at least lay out all your options and the costs. You might find out that there is an option other than IVF that is more affordable.
We wasted time going to different doctors that turned out not to be as knowledgeable as the RE.

I’m super late to the convo but I also have PCOS after 3 years of trying on our own and 1 of fertility treatments 7 months on letroze I got pregnant with my miracle boy so don’t loose hope ladies I was also looking into IVF but doctor recomended letrozole and afternoon 7 cycles finally paid up. The struggle is real ladies the road it’s hard but never loose hope. I’m here if anyone wants to talk šŸ™‚

Hang it there...you are not alone. I have had two ectopic pregnancy’s, leaving me with one ā€œquestionableā€ tube. Only when we went to a fertility specialist did I learn I also have PCOS. My husband and I have the same fears about IVF, it’s so expensive what if it doesn’t work. We will figure out what is best for us, and so will you! Best of luck, stay positive!

My mum has PCOS and it took her 7 years to conceive me, but she did it naturally with alot of patience, tears and love. Now she has a daughter and a grandson so hang in there, if it's meant to be it will happen no matter how long it takes ā¤ļø

Avatar

I agree - please don’t lose hope.

I was diagnosed at age 18 with PCOS and was told in brutal terms that there would be no way I could ever have a child.
It did not really make that much of a difference back then but as I got older and all my friends around me were falling pregnant it was really hard.
Granted it more or less took me a long time to fall pregnant, but my miracle little girl arrived in July this year.

Keep on trying - you will fall pregnant it just takes time ā¤ļø

Ivf works better if you have pcos. Many people who fail at ivf have a low amh level, a low number of eggs. Pcos makes your have a huge number of eggs, even if you are old! Pcos people have a hard time ovulating. Ivf gets rid of this challenge and it's almost a slam dunk that it will work. You need to make sure they know you have pcos so they give you different drugs and a different trigger shot so you don't get ohss. Good luck!!

I have PCOS and I got pregnant naturally. I was told the same stuff, you may need metformin, you will more than likely need help conceiving a baby, etc. but I did a lot to manage my PCOS on my own after 3 years of ttc with no success. I started birth control and working out and eating really healthy for a year and a half. I managed to lose a lot of weight on my own and went off my birth control and to my total surprise got pregnant after 3 months. Don’t lose hope! You never know what could happen.

Avatar

Hey mama! I know this is a little late of a response but I reversed my PCOS naturally within 3 months! I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18 and my doctor told me I would need fertility treatment in order to conceive. She recommended birth control (which only regulates your periods) and metformin (reduces insulin resistance), neither of which I was interested in. I wanted my hormones to balance naturally with eating healthier foods. My doctor discouraged it because I was already at an ā€œaverage BMIā€ and she advised results from changing diet usually only show in women who are above that BMI range and when their weight decreases to a ā€œnormal BMIā€ it can commonly reduce PCOS symptoms. I ended up ignoring her advice and switched to a vegan diet for 3 months and got pregnant within that time. I would suggest meeting with a nutritionist to help you plan out what foods to avoid, as some foods encourage PCOS symptoms.

Try Gonolaf, it worked for us.

A little bit of weight loss sometimes goes a long way with PCOS. With my first, I did not have regular periods and needed letrozole to conceive. I struggled at first with my 2nd but got pregnant immediately when I dropped just 10 pounds. It’s not true for everyone but it’s life changing for some of us!

Avatar

I was diagnosed at 21 and got pregnant at 24 naturally without being on any medication or pills. Just a whole lifestyle overhaul. Clean eating and exercise. Any questions please ask I’m not saying it’s going to work for everyone but it worked for me so I think is worth a try.

Avatar

I went off birth control pills in September 2017 and they wanted me to wait 3 months to see if my cycle started itself it didn't for almost 40 days, then 60 days ect so they ran labs and an ultrasound and in February I was diagnosed with PCOS as well they put me on metformin for 3 months then they allowed me to try clomid since they found I wasn't ovulating on my own nor by the 2nd month of metformin was I having a period on my own anymore. I got pregnant first round of clomid in June 2018 and had a healthy baby in February 2019 even through he was born 4 weeks early due to pre-eclampsia

Avatar

I’m sending you lots of love. I really hope that you can get the support you need. I have PCOS and a variety of other health conditions. I’m scared to talk to my doctor about IVF or even a fertility clinic because I’m worried they won’t accept me because of my current state of health. I’m here if you need someone to talk to, feel free to message me at any time. Xxx

I have PCOS.. TTC for 8 months until I'm pregnant, I've tried metformin and clomid for 6 months, and then almost changed to femara. But I was also clean eating and consume primrose oil for balancing hormones. Never give up šŸ¤—

Thank you so much for that advise. Ever since I found out about PCOS I have been on all sorts of things. From herbs to medicine I just can’t cope.
I am no longer myself, I’m always frustrated... it’s great having you ladies here.

I also feel that because of were I live in the middle of Africa, Zambia šŸ‡æšŸ‡² our health care facilities are so limited and they are a lot imitations when it comes medication. I need to travel to South Africa just to seek professional medical help.

Hey lady,

The doctors are just a practice! I was told day before I turned 30 that my fibrods & PCOS was so bad I had a less than 1% of conceiving even on IVF. So a couple years later when I accepted no more kids. I started working on me I lost weight was on fifth round of whole30 and found out I was pregnant and all natural (at 38 no less) so honestly it is about getting healthy check out ur thyroid and pray. Just know that doctors have a habit of not knowing what is going on but just checking boxes.

Avatar

Have you had clomid? I was put on that but had to come off as it didn’t agree with me. I’ve heard a lot of people have said it has worked for them though. I’m the same as you the drs told me it would just be ivf for me but I’d have to pay so I’m just living in hope that we’ll have a miracle now someday

Avatar

I have had been living with PCOS for just over 12 years I had many miscarriages. Me and my husband came to the point that having one more is just not going to happen. However to control the symptoms I lost weight sort of exercise and changed my eating habits. I have seen an improvement and I recommend finding a gyno that specializes in pcos and nutritionist to create you your ideal meals. Also a blood test type and food allergy test so you can know what foods dont go against your body

Avatar

I have pcos and i was told i would probably never have children. But here i am with my 5month old angelšŸ’•. Never give up hope!

Avatar

I have PCOS & with over 20 follicles on each ovary... this was 2 years ago & due for another ultrasound.
I've convinced 2 babies naturally even after my doctor saying it was unlikely as I get older.
I've been on metformin but it was to help me with weight loss & sugar levels not to fall pregnant.
I've also tried some natural hormonal balances that have helped my symptoms from PCOS.

Can I ask, what do you do for work? is it stressful? I fell pregnant straight away after I quit my job in 2017 that was literally taking over my life! I had Massive Mum guilt for having my child in daycare full-time and then my work was guilting me for taking days off to care for my son!

Maybe a change is what you need? Here to chat if need ā¤ļø PCOS Will ruin your mental state if you let it.

Avatar

Hope you dont mind me asking but what is PCOS?

Avatar

I have PCOS which causes me not to ovulate. I used femara with the metformin and now have three living children. I did have 8 miscarriages but I have crohns and it caused a lot of issues (plus PCOS raises the risk of miscarriage)

I believe femara can be ordered online if you are outside the United States. And there are a lot of options abroad (Reprofit in the Czech Republic did a lot via email for me)

Hey girl! I have PCOS too and I know how hard it is to go through, it took me and my SO three years of actively trying to finally get pregnant, it was extremely hard, BUT possible. We've been trying for baby number two since 6 weeks pp and shes now 20 months and still not pregnant, so I guess itll take awhile this time around too. I fully believe If it's meant to happen, it will. Keep your head up!

Hi :) I have pcos and have undertaken two cycles of ivf of which I am incredibly blessed to have two beautiful children, a son and a daughter. If there is anything you’d like to talk about I’m happy to share any experiences I have had and pass on any knowledge I can xx

Avatar

I found out I have PCOS after a little over a year of trying. My first cycle being on metformin, letrazole(famara) for ovulation and progesterone I got pregnant. It sadly ended in a twin ectopic pregnancy and I lost my left tube. No success since and it’s almost been two years since that. We just did our 4th IUI which I don’t think worked again. They told me maybe I could look into IVF as well but I started to cry cuz it’s so expensive and there is no way we would afford it. They told me to look up CNY Fertility. There are 4 clinics in New York. They offer payment plans for IVF and they said they are the cheapest in the nation. Their goal is to help people become parents as cheap as possible.

Avatar

Try clomid or femara with the metformin and fertility tracking! I have PCOS too

Avatar

I would try tracking your cycles and pin pointing your ovulation day. I have PCOS and luckily I was able to conceive my son this way. Minimizing stress, light movement daily, and eating the right food for you and your body(not what blogs and other people with PCOS tell you) PCOS is very particular from person to person, there isn’t just one way to manage it. You really have to be in tune with your body and use trial and error. I wish you luck and just be easy on yourself and your body. ā¤ļø

I have pcos and was immediately put on metformin which actually made me really ill. I was diagnosed a year and a half ago and I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I think you just have to get to know your body and do your research and try different things. I was told that I’d never conceive naturally Xx

Avatar

So two random thoughts: with infertility and irregular periods it’s never a bad idea to check for celiac. Also, I really feel like pcos ties in with insulin resistance, it might be worth Dramatically cutting sugar if that’s an addiction you struggle with (I do!) I had to go on metformin for pcos and when I did get pregnant I got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Structuring meals as 1/2 veggies, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carbs, lots of water, And a 10 minute walk after eating made me feel great. I actually need to start doing that again... good luck. I hope you get what you want!

Avatar

I have PCOS as well. I was also told that I would have a very hard time conceiving a child on my own without help from an infertility doctor. So I went to the infertility doctor in February 2018 and they put me on a drug to induce ovulation, called Letrosol, and it worked to induce the ovulation, but didn't do anything to help us conceive. So, we started from the beginning and scheduled another appointment with the infertility doctor for May 2018.

We stopped trying so hard between the 2 appointments and just let things happen and lo and behold, I got pregnant without any help. The infertility clinic called and had to reschedule the appointment on the day I found out I was pregnant, 5/27/18 (I think it was) and I told them that I was pregnant.

My little girl will be 1 year old on January 24, 2020 and I still go up and talk to the ladies at the infertility clinic because they are like family because they followed me all throughout my pregnancy and made sure I was taking care of myself and the baby.

I have PCOS as well I just gave birth to my first child šŸ‘¶šŸ¾ 3 weeks ago. I suggest taking prenatals and track when you’re ovulating. That’s how I conceived.

Avatar

I have pcos and with the help of metformin, prenatals and a tracking app I have been able to conceive three beautiful baby boys!! Good luck and I hope and pray that you find the answers you need lady

Avatar

I have pcos, I agree try tracking your cycle and try the pills and trigger shot first.. that way you at least know you have done what you can before having to go to ivf. It took us 8 months but we now have an almost 5 year old.. give it time. Set yourself a time goal like a year so your not as gutted each time or have to decide each time what to do next.. after the year then decide if you want to do ivf or keep trying with meds. Good luck.

Avatar

I have PCOS, my first daughter was conceived on our second round of IUI’s, my 2nd daughter I was only on letrozole for ovulation and she was conceived the month before we were scheduled for an IUI and then I got a surprise boy only 4 months later! 100% natural conception and even while I was breastfeeding baby girl #2! The hormones are super hard. I’m sorry you have to go through this!!

My husband and I had been trying for years. Pcos made everything such a struggle. We conceived 4 times with 3 miscarriages. Finally, we brought our son into the world. He was 3 months early. He is 100% happy and healthy. Things happen when they are meant to. Stress makes it harder. Try and relax into it. It's hard, I know. You've got this.

I got iui with clomid

Avatar

Hey. I’m a newbie too to this app and never shared stuff like this before. We have been ttc for over 3 years now and have pcos too. My periods are all over the place (every 2-3 months but then sometimes nothing for months) and I never know when I’m ovulating 😫 it’s just so stressful and I know we need to stay as stress free as possible. I feel so down and sad about all of this but reading everyone’s comments just brings light to everything. Everyone seems so friendly. I agree Mwape and feel exactly the same. I felt so alone when I found out I have pcos but reading everyone’s stories made me feel so much better too. We can do this girls šŸ’œā¤ļøšŸ’œā¤ļø

Avatar

I don’t know to much about this other than my sister in law had the same condition and has gotten pregnant twice naturally with two healthy boys! Just thought I would share a success story for encouragement:)

Avatar

Hey, I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago. Was told I would never fall pregnant naturally. I haven’t had a period for almost 3 years and I’m currently 26 weeks pregnant. A lot of people swear by taking prenatal vitamins and eating healthily and just relaxing. Have a look into Clomid too i have heard such good things on this and a lot of people conceive first time! It is so stressful but keep positive.. don’t let it beat you šŸ’ŖšŸ»xxx

Avatar

Woww... sounds about right. Cycles be little to non existent and it really is disheartening when you want a baby so bad. I have PCOS as well. I’ll be starting my first IUI cycle. I’m currently starting to take clomid. Prayers and baby dust our way ladies!!

Avatar

I was told for 5 years that since I had pcos I couldn’t have my own kids.

Guess what.

My son is now 8 months old.

I worked out a bunch. Lowered my stress. Didn’t focus on having a baby. Prayed more and ate less sugar and less carbs.

Avatar

I have pcos, diagnosed at 17. I have a 4 yo daughter. Conceived her on my second round of clomid 50 mg. Trying for baby #2 right now with Femara.

Am I just fucked?

I need a new car. I purchased my current honda civic in 2024 after my car was totaled in an accident. Seemingly there was nothing wrong with it. I went alone to the dealership because my dad lived out of state and my bf wasn’t available anyways. Couple months down the road, the cars sensors start going berserk. We got it checked at the honda dealership and with our own family known mechanic and no problems came up. It was just wack. Fast forward to know, the car has about 155k miles. We bought it at 125k, I know STUPID CHOICE. Here’s why i’m ultra fucked though. I’ve been a SAHM for the last year, my baby is 7 months old. I’m starting a part time job next month but literally at 10 hours a week. That’s the most I can do as I do not want to put my baby in daycare and do not have any family that can watch him for an extenuous amount of time everyday.

Besides the fact that the honda civic is kind of uncomfortable to fit the huge car seat, the stroller snd stroller seat attachment. which i don’t wanna have to repurchase and buy a smaller one. The car is SHIT. The car runs weird right off the bat anyone will say that when they drive. The engine light is on. There must be a hole or something in the AC unit because the AC is broke and everytime we put the AC gas in it it ends up leaking within 1-2 weeks. AC gas is kinda expensive to be refilling it that often. My dad doesn’t think I should put any money into this car to fix it. We still owe about 3k. We want to trade it in however my parents think that I should get a NEW car since this used car gave us such bad faith. Mind you, when I got it and for a couple months after, none of these problems were there :/ I drove from NJ to BOSTON a few months after getting it and the emergency sensors went off and the car was shaking bad and i had to pull over. Never found out what that was about.

I have 5k to put down. BTW, my parents are heavily involved because i’m 24 and I live with them (me and my bf) in hopes to move out when we have the funds for that. I don’t wanna ask my BF for any money. I know he’ll just throw it back in my face down the line during an argument because he thinks a paycheck is the extent of his contribution as a partner and father. Whole other story. My parents can’t afford to throw any money at a new car. My dad thinks I should get a new car that’s relatively recent like 2023+. Not for the aesthetic but because he thinks insurance rates might be better for a newer vehicle. They want me to ask my BF to contribute since it would be a family car for us. That he would also be able to ride around in when he’s not driving to work in his own car. I dont wanna downgrade to just 1 car because he goes into work incredibly early and I dont wanna have to wake my baby up at 4am and take him to drop his dad off. I also just need my own car because Im starting a part time job soon. I could just use my part time dollars to pay it off but what if I’m stuck with a car note in the event anything happened with this job? My bf and his family suggested we buy a car from enterprise because it’d always gone well.. however i told him there’s a lot of risk in buying a RENTAL CAR. and he said there’s also a lot of risk in buying a used car from a dealership. He said you’re NOT getting a new car. a new car to me isn’t about the aesthetics, it’s about the security that we wont have the same issue we’ve had with the used car i bought in 2024 which was seemingly great when we first got it.

Anyways, I don’t drive my car anymore. Because of all its sensors and issues. But it’s not practical to keep having to use my parents car to get around. I don’t know what to do, if there is anything TO do. Seems like i’m just backed into a corner. My honda is just losing value as it sits in the drive way, already is very low value due to the shit miles it has.

I get I should just maybe lean on my BF as he did agree to help with the down payment and the car note but I just don’t want to. He will throw it back in my face. That’s for certain. I also don’t wanna make a poor financial decision that’s gonna effect me and my baby in the long run.

Need more friends!

Hi Ladies, if I’m being honest making friends has always been a struggle of mine. Being straightforward and honest , I’ve slowly experienced myself turning into that girl that only hangs out with her husband and honestly I’m getting bored of him lol . Looking for open-minded , understanding women who aren’t afraid to be themselves. Im looking for women who can teach me things and be open to learn new things by doing things outside of their comfort zones positively of course. Simply looking for sister-ships , for family.
