This article is brought to you in partnership with Gerber, supporters of Peanut and women alike.

There's a very specific kind of heartbreak that happens around week six of owning an outfit you love: you go to snap your baby into it, and the snaps just... won't reach.

Nothing dramatic happened.

No growth chart moment, no big reveal.

They just grew, the way they do, and the outfit didn't grow with them.

You're not imagining it, and you're not buying wrong. Babies don't grow on a schedule, and most clothes are built like they do.

Which is why the wardrobe stops working roughly every five minutes, and why "just bought this" and "already too small" can be true in the same sentence.

So let's talk about building a wardrobe that's actually designed for a baby who won't stay one size for long - instead of one you're constantly rebuilding from scratch.

The problem isn't your baby. It's the clothes.

What a growth-spurt-proof wardrobe actually needs

Where Wiggle Room comes in

The takeaway

The problem isn't your baby. It's the clothes.

Here's the thing nobody tells you before baby #1: most basics are built for a single moment in time. They're cut to fit now, which means the second your baby has a growth spurt (and they will, repeatedly, unpredictably, often overnight), you're back to square one.

New size, new shop, new pile of "why did I even bother" onesies in the donate bag.

It's not that you're buying too much or too little. It's that most clothing isn't designed with any room in it at all.

What a growth-spurt-proof wardrobe actually needs

A wardrobe that keeps up with a growing baby comes down to a few deliberate choices - not more shopping, just smarter shopping.

Look for built-in room to grow. This is the difference between a piece that lasts a season and one that lasts a stage. Multiple rows of snaps, adjustable waistbands, foldover cuffs on sleeves and pants - the kind of game changing details that excite seasoned moms. A cuff you can unfold buys you weeks. A waistband with give buys you even longer.

Let the fabric do some of the work. Stretch isn't just about comfort (although, yes, also that). A soft, stretchy fabric moves with a growing baby in a way rigid cotton simply can't, which means the piece stays wearable through the in-between stage instead of getting retired to the donation pile the moment it feels snug.

Build around basics that mix, not outfits that don't. A capsule of soft bodysuits, joggers, and simple layers will always outlast head-to-toe matching sets, because when a growth spurt hits, you're only replacing one piece instead of the whole look.

Accept that "slightly roomy" is a feature, not a mistake. A little extra room at the start isn't your baby swimming in their clothes, it's a few more weeks of wear before the next size-up.

Where Wiggle Room comes in

Getting more life out of your clothes is exactly how Gerber designs baby and children's clothing; clothes designed with Wiggle Room - to grow, move and play.

Some styles are designed with the growing part in mind from the start, think adjustable waistbands, fold over waistbands & cuffs, and the magical multiple rows of snaps so a piece can grow with your baby instead of falling out of rotation the second they hit a growth spurt. Clothes designed with AdjustaFit™ features give you longer wear cycles.

Pair that with fabrics designed with StretchWear™ for longer wear while feeling super soft and comfortable through every roll, reach, and wiggle, and you've got basics that are designed to last through a stage, not just a moment.

It's the same idea, over and over: a little room to grow now means a lot more wear later. More wear in every wear™, that's the whole promise

The takeaway

You don't need a bigger wardrobe. You need a smarter one - pieces with room to grow, fabric with room to stretch, and basics that don't force you to start over every time your baby hits a new stage.

Nursery consumables

We pay £20 a day extra on a funded day (10 hours a day) it’s £10 for consumables and £10 enhanced provision. It’s all itemised on the invoice and 25p an hour is nappies and 75p and hour food, my son hasn’t worn nappies for months and nursery have also stopped the morning snack without making it common knowledge but the price hasn’t changed. The enhanced provision they have said covers things such as using bikes, hi viz jackets, drinks such as cows milk, sensory play, painting aprons etc they have literally covered everything in suprised they haven’t charged for the air they’re breathing in there 😅 all of the above I believe are covered in the core element of EYFS and shouldn’t be charged extra for?!

Can’t cope

This is gonna sound so fucked up but I honestly can’t cope with my 7 month old. She’s waking up 4/5 times a night and it’s driving me fucking insane. I have to be up at 6:30am as I have a toddler and my partner does night shifts so I can’t ask him for shit all. I’m finding myself shouting af the baby and getting really fucking worked up cos I can’t cope with this bullshit waking up every 2 hours. I’m honestly so fucking frustrated even typing this because it’s 4am and I’ve had no sleep tonight this is her 4th wake up. I feel so guilty shouting at her but I’m honestly losing my fucking marbles

My 7 week 2 day old baby has been getting bogeys for about 2 weeks however in the last few days has been quite snotty,

then last night he has been breathing heavy and we can hear how congested he is.

We have tried using a sucker which works for a couple of minutes but then comes back. He is quite chesty, and we can feel the raspyness on his chest and back.

Will be hopefully getting a GP appointment today but just wanted to see if it’s happening to any else’s baby at the moment and how you helped them 🥹 He is currently sleeping on my chest because he has been struggling on his back and was so tired from last night.

This may come across petty but not letting someone sit and slag us off in posts 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

So we have a groupchat absolutely lovely!! There’s this one girl sandy removed herself yesterday as apparently we were mean etc etc but wasn’t the case, she was judgy asf!! She was practically having a go at me cos my baby was in a nappy at 10 months and had a fever bearing in mind which I was trying to control! She said we were nasty cos we said an energy drink goes under your daily caffeine intake while pregnant said we were nasty cos one of the girls left her baby downstairs with his grandad crying so she could get a shower in peace, said we were nasty cos watching American horror story while the baba is asleep is the same as arguing infront of your kid, apparently it’s mental abuse! Then she went on saying that she’s hit a parent before on school grounds for there kid pushing there’s so we were just expressing our opinion then all of a sudden we were jealous!! Bearing in mind everytime someone said something she had it 10x worse or better than that person, someone mentioned they had epilepsy, then she said she had a brain thing which caused seizures, like she had to talk about herself 24/7 and not let anyone talk about there feelings or experiences, she was always lecturing us about things bragging about making her house spotless with one hand, she did everything one handed with the baba on her other hip, just wanted to post this out there as she commented on another post and deleted her comments and I just find it very childish to delete them, saying all this nasty shit about us then not letting us defend ourselves :)

Continuous rocking/swaying.. how to phase out?

Hello, I’m a ftm and my baby girl is turning 3 months in 2 days.

My husband and I have unconsciously made a bad habit regarding how we put our baby girl to nap during the days.

She used to be able to contact nap on us and we would be able to lay her down so she could nap. When we would put her down she would fuss and couldn’t settle. So we started rocking her. At first we were able to rock/swag her for a little just until she would fall asleep and we would put her down and she would stay asleep.

After awhile, when we would do that, should wouldn’t stay asleep like she usually would after being rocked a little. So we started just holding her and seemed like the one way she would stay asleep is by rocking her during her whole nap.

Now we are I don’t know 2/3 weeks in of constantly taking turns rocking her for an hour or so constantly for her daytime naps.

And quite honestly we are drained.

I was wondering if there are any mamas out there that may have gone through the same thing. If yes, what did you do to phase out the constant rocking baby to sleep? Because as soon as we stop rocking or swaying while holding her she wakes up.

Any words of advice is appreciated. My husband and I are hopeful we can figure something out and that things will get better but where we are right now.. we are tired.

Drops?

Ftm for a 15 day old

Has anyone tried these? My midwife recommended vitamin D drops for my baby, and when I mentioned that he spits up a bit, she also suggested trying a probiotic.

I’m just a little hesitant because he doesn’t really have colic or a ton of gas issues right now. I know this probably sounds crazy lol, but I’m worried that adding a probiotic when he seems pretty comfortable could somehow cause more gas or discomfort.

Has anyone noticed any changes (good or bad) after starting probiotics with their newborn? Would love to hear your experiences!
