Couple counselling..is it worth it? Plz read

We have had our first joined couple counselling session today. He said he does at home more than I do & I am strong woman & I don’t treat him nicely. He also said he is always financially stressed & depressed, he has put on weight & developed new habits (drinking) coz of our stressful relationship. He also think he stays late away home coz he is tired of doing many things at home & end being overtired & then sleep in the car or drink to unwind …he also think he hasn’t developed his career coz of me ! Our main problem in my perspective is what he mentioned as attitudes he is doing coz of me (staying late , drinking….etc ) which he has actually been doing since we knew each other. For example in our honeymoon he walked out & wasn’t responding to his phone the whole day , I didn’t know where he is until he decided to come back . When I now confronted him that obviously these attitudes aren’t new like he said in the session, he said he has done so at a time coz we argued as our intimate relationship didn’t go well…I was stressed about coz it was my first time …& he was pushing it too much which I didn’t like or feel comfortable with To cut the long story short I feel like he always try to find excuses to his wrong attitudes instead ot trying to fix them! So I feel like these sessions won’t work …it actually led today to a fight between us & he end up saying our relationship won’t work coz I am not an easy person to live with despite of his sacrifices!!! My question has people who tried couple counselling felt it made things worse at the beginning? Is it worth carrying on with him or with the sessions?

@Courtney in which way did it help you ? Coping with him you mean ? I can have relationship counselling on my own does it actually help without having him with me at the same session or will it end up me just be talking?

We went to counseling just one session he didn’t agree with what was said and didn’t go back. I went for myself though which helped me a lot.
