Which cold and flu tablets are safe to take while breastfeeding?? I’ve got a really bad flu and I’m really struggling to look after 2 little ones while my husband is at work.

I’d calling and asking Rodney Whyte

I've heard that sudafed can dry up your supply from other mums. Might be a good idea to ask a doc or pharmacist?
how do I get in contact with him??
I know its best to ask doc but I’ve got no energy to go see my GP or to go chemist😭

Oo I have an app called Lactomed@NIH. On the play store I can see 'Medications and mother's milk'. Both check the research to see what affects breastfeeding

There is a hotline you can call that will help. It’s called infant risk. I don’t have the number but I’m sure you can google it.
I was told that most meds aren’t good for baby or milk. I got sick 4 times while BF, this last time in June while on vacation. I swear I had Covid but all 6 tests came back negative.
I took Motrin and Tylenol every day for my fever and body aches until I felt better, I was sick for 2 weeks. Two days out of the 2 weeks the Motrin and Tylenol did not work🤦🏾♀️.
When I got sick the first time I took cough drops, it affected my supply. I didn’t know until after the fact. I got sick and took them again. And my supply dropped, then I randomly took them a few months after i was better and boom, supply dipped and I knew it was the cough drops.
I know they say your supply can drop when you get but meds also play a roll. I’d call and ask a doc or check out infant risk. So far, I’ve only taken Tylenol, Motrin, and some antibiotics for when I got mastitis twice🤦🏾♀️.

Sorry the app has been retired. But you can still go to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK501922/#IX-P
Phenylephrine has no human studies but in animals they showed a reduction in milk production. Pseudoephedrine decreases milk production in nursing mothers after oral use. So Codral Day & Night is out

It says oxymetazoline is a better choice and doesn't have the same effect on milk production. A quick Google shows it's in Demazin 12hr nasal decongestant spray.
So perhaps you're just stuck with paracetamol and the nasal spray??

When I asked the chemist, I was told the only safe thing I could take was Panadol/paracetamol. All medications for nasal and congestion symptoms were not suitable.

Oh, I think you could use nasal sprays, just not tablets/liquids you take orally.
Call the chemist and ask. They may be able to help you with advice over the phone. The other option for advice is Nurse on Call: 1300 60 60 24

I agree @Sarah. Plus I forgot to mention Fess. It's only saline so it's safe for pregnancy/breastfeeding and IT WORKS (especially the nasal rinse one for when your sinuses are blocked)

I just had a sinus and ear infection. I was so blocked up I could barely breathe, so I asked the GP and pharmacist. Both said I could take pseudoephedrine if I wanted to, but that it could affect my supply and may make baby more alert. I only took 2 tablets, and didn't notice it do anything, but I could breathe and sleep properly again. Otherwise just been taking Panadol, Ibuprofen, using nasal spray, inhaling steam with lavender oil, hot lemon and honey, olive leaf throat spray if it's sore. I've also used Clarytine before for a constantly dripping nose which I've been told several times is safe.
