Do your babies nap on their own or do you guys have to rock them and stuff?

Because I always have to put in so much work for his naps and it's exhausting.

Absolutely not 😅. Lately he has even been having trouble napping with help...today we've gotten a couple of 15 min contact naps since he woke up 5 hours ago 🫠. If we put him down drowsy but awake he just wakes himself up fully and plays until we go get him 🤣. Even if we follow his wake windows.

Avatar

same! It's so hard. I feel like my days consist of trying to get him to nap lol

Avatar

Mine too! Starting to dread mornings 🙃. But hopefully it improves soon!

Avatar

So glad to know I'm not alone!

Avatar

He fights his sleep! Longer wake windows now but naps from 40 min-2 hours. The back to back 49 min naps kill me though as I spend more time trying to get him to sleep

Avatar

right some people that I talk to make me feel like I'm crazy. Someone said "no my baby just falls asleep when her wake window is up after tummy time" I was like what am I doing wrong

Avatar

Yes lol. It just depends. The moment she starts yawning, I swaddle her, give her a pacifier, and either put her in her bassinet, mamaroo, or have to rock her to sleep. Sometimes she falls asleep on her own, other times it takes 40 minutes 🙃

can you explain more what you mean by “I learned the hard way…” I’m a FTM and my baby falls asleep nursing for naps and nighttime sleep. It’s just what’s easiest for us right now, but I keep hearing people say it’s bad and I’m not sure why

Avatar

it's not bad, per se, but it is a habit that becomes harder to break later on. Meaning it's harder to teach an older baby/toddler to self soothe and fall asleep independently when they've never had to do it before.

Avatar

Mine use to take my tiddie to soothe himself to sleep now he just sleeps on his own (he’s two months) I’ll rub his back sometimes if I see he’s yawning and fighting it but otherwise he just falls asleep for his naps on his own

Avatar

Use huckleberry paid version for the wake window sweet spot. I cracked the feeding to sleep habit using the controlled check and console method and she goes to sleep with just a few whimpers now

Avatar

Mine doesn’t take a paci but she sucks her hand to soothe when she’s going for a sleep

Avatar

If he's not in his Love to dream sleep sack, it's SO MUCH work.

Avatar

Personally, we use a nap routine when she starts to get sleepy which ends with my husband or I having her sleep on our chest for about 15/20 min before we put her down in her crib. She stirs a little bit but will grab her fist and suck on it and be good. I also pat her butt for a little bit as she does that to help soothe her a bit faster.

Avatar

I read that sleep sack or swaddle is a cue it’s sleep time. Also unless they are rolling swaddling is useful because sleep drive is so low that it’s tough for them to go back to sleep afterwards if a startle reflex wakes them

Avatar

Aren't we suppose to be transitioning our of swaddles soon? I read that by week 12 no more swaddling to sleep.

Serious question though, FTM, how did you teach your baby to self sooth themselves to sleep for a nap?

Avatar

transition out when they start showing signs of trying to roll over. We transitioned by wrapping his Velcro swaddles under his armpits for a week or so, and then doing a love to dream sleep sack for about a week. We still use the love to dream for naps, but he's in just a sleeper for nighttime now

Avatar

mine just started doing it out of the blue 🤷‍♀️ I assume it has something to do with daycare and how she kind of has to since she probably doesn't get picked up right away like she does at home when she's upset.

Avatar

She naps on her own. We trained her around 5 weeks. It was hard but now she is good on her own!

Avatar

what did you guys do

Avatar

We would just have to rock her to sleep at first and keep trying to put her down. She would wake up and then we would do it over again and eventually it worked. What actually helped the most and made it a game changer was when we swaddled her, putting white noise on and just setting her down in her crib. Eventually she got it. I put a humidifier in the room with a couple of drops of frida baby lavender oil

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡

Took 9 week old to a family party where there was loud music and she was next to the speaker for most of the time (about 3 hours). She slept through most of it. Do you think she has hearing loss from this?

Freaking out right now :(

Struggling in the 4 month regression

How are people getting out of the 4 month regression? I’ve been looking it up and it says I need to be trying to put him down drowsy but awake but this does not work for my LO. Every time we do this he ends up being wide awake and after almost an hour of trying we have to contact nap/rock to sleep. I want to avoid rocking to sleep because now when he wakes up in the night he needs to be rocked back to sleep which he never used to need.

Nights are constantly broken because we are up 2-3 times to rock him back to sleep. Please give me your tips on how to survive this and how to get out of this!! Constantly feel like I’m failing and doing something wrong
