Exclusively Breastfed babies

Does anyone have a feeding routine for their EBF babies? And how many hours do you have between feeds? I'm wondering if a routine is possible because I'm currently feeding on demand.

It’s hard with breast feeding because it’s so on demand. My son has been wanting to be fed every 4 hours for over a week now but just last night he was waking every 3! During the day I ensure he’s down for a nap within 2 hours of him waking up from a nap and obviously making sure he’s had a feed too. Then when he wakes up he always wants a feed first, and then again make sure he’s down within 2 hours for a nap again xx

I breast feed plus offer a formula bottle after to top up. Our routine seems to be a 2 hour cycle of eat, play, sleep! Feed takes approx 40 minutes, play for an hour and then sleep for 20 minutes. Unfortunately she won’t sleep longer than 20 minutes in the day 🤷🏼‍♀️ the feeds become a bit more frequent in the evening, sometimes every hour! I think she’s stocking up for the night as she then generally sleeps from around 9/10pm to 5/6am.

My little girl is 10 weeks and I'm finding that I'm feeding her every hour and a half, sometimes after 2 hours through the day. Our feeding sessions only last between 5 to 10mins too. @Kerryann I can't believe your managing every 4 hours and that your feeds last 20mins @katie she's putting weight on fine so I'm not worried about her, I just wanted to try and make it a little easier on myself

@Demi have you looked into tongue tie at all? My LB was similar to what you're describing and would also fall asleep at almost every feed. I took him to a lactation consultant for supporr and turns out he was tongue tie. He's now had a division and is feeding for much longer and less frequently. He's also become less upset with being so gassy. All in all a much happier baby! The health visitors weren't helpful in diagnosing this as he was putting on lots of weight and they said his fussiness was just a phase. It wasn't bless him!

@Natalie no I havnt because since being born she has always stuck her tounge out really far and it looks so big. I remember my little sister had it and she couldn't stick her tongue out at all, so it isn't something I thought she would have to be honest x

How are your babies managing to stay awake for 2 hours? Mine is barely managing 1hr 15!! X

@Joanne what app is this on? Is it Huckleberry? If so how do you get to the pattern page as I can't see it! @Demi we have pretty much no routine, I just feed on demand which is around every 2.5 hours in the day. We are lucky though and she is sleeping through the night now so I think she stocks up during the day.
