Breastmilk Production Advice

I have an almost 3 month old and have been formula/breastfeeding her. I am having a difficult time producing and I absolutely hate my medela pump. Any suggestions mommies?

Nurse more frequently to let your body know you need to produce more 😁 Hot showers help. I use a handless pump and when I want to express even more I use a small hand pump that works great.

I haven’t tried a hand pump yet. Which one do you use?

What’s your diet, water intake and sleep like? Cause that’s plays a huge role in milk production

Avatar

I use the spectra s2 wired pump - it's hospital grade and very effective in emptying the breast which helps milk production. Also flipping to more nursing, less bottle use, and lots and lots of water

I actually have been striving to drink more water it’s not something I’m the best with soo I keep a 64 oz water jug around to drink.

So I had this issue when I was breastfeeding my daughter. I literally tried everything. Teas, cookies, supplements, pumping every 2-3hrs, dieting
. What I realized is that I took away from the joy of the experience and made it so stressful. Honestly enjoy this moment! It’s a bonding moment for you and your child. Formula supplement when you need to. Stressing will slow down your milk production. I had that Medea pump too and hated it. Switched to Elvie stride hospital grade pump. It’s hands free and I literally popped into my bra and did chores while it pumped.

are you making more milk after switching to Elvie?

Avatar

i did! I stopped breast feeding now. However with the Medela pump when I would first pump I would get 4-5 oz and like 2-3 oz throughout the day. With the ELvie pump my first pump of the day would be 6-8oz and 4-5oz throughout the day.

Avatar

that has been my experience as well at the point I have tried everything except a different pump which I want

Avatar

girl I know!!!! I did everything short of trying to have ppl milk me like a cow lol I literally would cry to my mom and boyfriend about it! It stressed everyone around out lol but honestly stress is a huge factor and try a different pump.

Avatar

Yeah that’s exactly how I feel. I know it’s not the case but I feel a little bit like a failure

Avatar

that’s how I felt but you’re not! The fact that you’re trying so hard shows how much of an amazing mom you are!

- I’m doing the same now with my son. If you can, I recommend an at home lactation consultation (I can give you the woman I worked with) just to have advice on it. It helped me feel more confident that feeding my son breastmilk and formula was just fine - as long as baby is fed and happy it’s all the matters. She taught me to just tune into him, feed breast on demand (and first), and if he doesn’t seem full (which is 75% of the time) it’s fine to top off with formula. My daughter was 100% formula - she wouldn’t latch. My son is more of an extra bonding experience and
waiting for the baby weight to come off from breastfeeding haha! You’re doing great!

Thanks mommas for the advice 💕

about a month in a half ago I did go to the lactation center in my hometown she suggested pumping 8-12 times a day which is kinda what I already was researching and doing already.. I just gotta stick to it and try out different things. Hopefully I’ll see some improvement.

- pumping is a full time job! đŸ’ȘđŸŒ

that’s amazing result! Which model did you use?

I was told Mother's milk helps, it tea and it's really good. I was doing formula and breastfeeding as well, and I don't produce enough. I had to stop pumping because I got on birth control. If you like hot tea, I would give that a try.

Avatar

I have. I liked it however, I can’t have fenugreek 😅

Avatar

Oh, no. I'm glad you like it, I'm sorry you can't have fenugreek. This was my first time breastfeeding. My other 3 I tried and was not successful. I didn't want to stop, but I also don't want to get pregnant just yet. We are go8ng to go for onr more.

Avatar

Oohh okay! Good luck!

Avatar

Legendairy Milk makes supplements meant to increase supply. They have good reviews and are fenugreek free. I haven’t tried them yet personally but I have heard good things! I like my bio boo hug if you’re looking for a portable pump it feels and empty’s me out similar to my spectra s2 wall pump. I would recommend doing 2-3 power pumps a day too. Pump 20 min off 10 pump 10 off 10 pump 10 that has helped increase my supply!

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ą

Bedtime

What time are you getting your LOs down for the night now and how are you finding bedtime? We’ve had the sane routine since my daughter was a few weeks old - bath with her older sister and 6.45, followed by a bottle and ideally in bed by 7.30. This worked at first but over the last few weeks she’s been fighting it a lot and, with the exception of a few days last week which were a lot easier, it’s a bit of a battle to get her down and features a lot of screaming and resettling. Not sure if we are putting her down too early or late? Her last nap is usually a cat nap (30-45 mins) and finishes by 6. She’s pretty good at settling herself from a night feed, but seems to be unable to do it at bedtime, even with her dummy.
