Hey, I’m nearly 14 weeks pregnant. I have 2 kids already and this pregnancy was not planned. Since falling pregnant I have been unwell with unexplainable pains in my stomach which I’m under investigation for, my dad has been diagnosed with dementia and yesterday we had to put our beloved doggy to sleep. I’m really struggling with everything and pregnancy hormones aren’t helping. But I feel like a horrible person as I feel so disconnected from the pregnancy, I’m not excited at all. In fact I’m dreading the next 26 weeks. I’ve miscarried before so you would think I would be so scared to loose this baby but I feel so disconnected that I feel if anything happened I wouldn’t be sad. I am so down and can’t stop crying about my dog and my dad. I am just struggling with everything at the moment and I’m worried this will turn into postpartum depression or something worse. I don’t know what to do! I know in my heart I could never have a termination but I can’t understand why I feel like this. I’m scared and feel lonely as everyone around me is so excited for the baby and everyone keeps telling me all these exciting things and I just pretend to be happy. But I’m not.

It sounds like you could be protecting yourself from more hurt so disconnected yourself. Maybe talk to midwife about it and reach out for support xx

Oh I'm so sorry to read all of this! I had to make same decision for my cat this week and I've been a wreck since! But honestly I think it's worth talking to your GP about how you're feeling. Depression/emotional turmoil can come on at any stage and as you say may only get worse when you are further along or post-partum. So any interventions they can offer now might ease how you're feeling and prepare you for the later stages. Try and practice some self-care this evening! Sending a hug xx
