Birth control while breast feeding.

I have been taking birthcontrol pills for a month now, and noticed a decrease in my milk supply. During the week of placebo pills my supply went up again.
Is this normal?
Has anyone else experienced this?
Is it worth mentioning to my Dr?

Ya my doctor said that would happen. They are supposed to go over all side effects. She said “ it may completely ruin my supply or it may decrease for a while and come back up again so only start the pill if your okay with using formula” I’m on my 3rd month and my supply seems to be coming back up a bit. I was giving 4oz bottles of formula now He may only take 1 or 2oz from the bottle after breastfeeding.

Unfortunately birth control is necessary because if I were to get pregnant again right now, I would not be able to afford that child. I'm feeling hopeful that my supply could increase again later on. We haven't had to supplement with formula yet because I am on a medication that does make me produce more milk than necessary. However, next month it is quite possible that I will be going off of that medication, and onto one that will actually decrease my supply even more. It feels like I have a lot of tough decisions to make. I love breast feeding my daughter but I have to think about what is best for everyone.

I’m going on the copper iud on the 19th, it’s non hormonal so it doesn’t effect milk supply or cause any other nasty side effects. Other than longer heavier periods

is it expensive? Can one use a diva cup with an IUD?

My midwives said if I were to take my regular birth control pills my supply would decrease. She said if I like the pill option i could get "the little pill" or she suggested getting a IUD impanted

It cost me 100$ some insurances cover it. And I’m sure you can use a diva cup, it sits inside your uterus and a string comes slightly out of the cervix for removal. It lasts 5-10 years

Like what Stella said, my midwives told me the same thing you can’t just take any birth control the options were either the copper IUD or the little pill - if you were to breastfeed

Why did my Dr prescribe this to me if it's not an acceptable option? I feel a little betrayed right now because he knows I am breastfeeding and wish to do so for as long as possible.

Avatar

Sorry, I guess it's silly to ask you why, lol

Avatar

No not silly! I am wondering the same thing actually, I think midwives and doctors just have differing perspectives but I think the reason is just that the little pill and iud don’t interfere with milk supply I don’t think there’s any harmful reasons behind it or I’m sure your doctor would not have prescribed it! But if you are wanting to breastfeed as long as possible maybe speak to your doctor about this and get some info about the little pill

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!

4 month sleep regression

Does anyone else feel like they’re back in the newborn trenches through the 4 month sleep regression ?? 😭😭 my boy turned 4 months yesterday and the past 3 nights he’s woken up every 20-40 minutes. He does manage to get back off to sleep after I give him his dummy. It’s so strange though because his daytime naps don’t seem to be affected? He has 2 x long naps a day (around 2 hours) and a couple 30-40 minutes here and there and seems fine during them, it’s just his night time sleep! I read it can last for 6 weeks, I pray it doesn’t because I am shattered 🤣🤣

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡
