Falling asleep on their own

SOS I desperately need help training my son to fall asleep for naps on his own. The rocking is killing my back sitting or standing. He never has a “drowsy” stage unless I’m rocking him and he just wakes up up and is bright eye if I set him down and he’ll lay there and be awake till I go get him. My mental health truly cannot take much more. He doesn’t even cry so I can’t do the soothing every 3 mins 5 mins etc.

What helped my son is putting on nice relaxing baby music I put him down in his bassinet pit the music on and walked away. He cried maybe like 5 minutes and stopped and fell asleep.
If he went past 5 minutes of continuous crying I would put my hand on his belly and talk to him which would calm him down and then walk out the room once he was calm. Keep repeating the process. I hope this helps a little! My son is almost 4 months old.

How does he react if you just lay him down ?

I’d just let him lie there. If he isn’t crying that’s amazing! Perhaps he will nod off if you give hun space

my son is also almost 4 months old this week, I will try this!

he just stares at the wall which has his name sign so he must be studying it but he will stare at it for sooo long!

thank you! I’m currently doing that right now he is just chilling 🙃

Soundsmachine (volume should be the same as if you were standing besides a shower) and make sure the awake window is timed correctly (between 75 and 120 minutes before night sleep) Also, have a fixed bedtime routine that is relaxing , book, bath, eat and put him awake in the crib.

And make sure the room is completely black, you should not be able to see your own hand if you put it in front of your face.

how about for naps? I use a soundmachine and have a good bedtime routine I don’t want to change that just since he’s going through a sleep regression

Make a mini routine for naps as well, nothing longer than 10 min.
One thing for naps, I learned in the "Taking Cara Babies" sleep training that "nap sleep brain" (different than the night one) does not develop until 5 months. So even if you are doing everything, it can be that your baby is not there yet. Hang in there, we are just a month away! I did the training because my baby was the same, sleeps perfectly alone at night but naps I need to wear him otherwise he is awake in the crib for a really long time.

White noise and ssshhh music on YouTube....my babe loves it during that time...my back is trash also

Avatar

thank you! Did your hit a 4 month sleep regression?

Avatar

he was sleeping through the night but not anymore 🙃

Avatar

Not yet! He'll be 4 months tomorrow. I'm hoping he is not going to get one, I can only dream lol 😅🤞. He is doing two blocks of 5-6 hours atm and sleeping on his own at bedtime and when he wakes up to eat in the middle of the night.

Avatar

I read somewhere if your baby has the skills to fall asleep on their own then their regression isn’t as bad so might be lucky!!

Avatar

Okay! Make sure the room is dark dark dark! If not everything he sees will keep him occupied and he won’t sleep

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!

4 month sleep regression

Does anyone else feel like they’re back in the newborn trenches through the 4 month sleep regression ?? 😭😭 my boy turned 4 months yesterday and the past 3 nights he’s woken up every 20-40 minutes. He does manage to get back off to sleep after I give him his dummy. It’s so strange though because his daytime naps don’t seem to be affected? He has 2 x long naps a day (around 2 hours) and a couple 30-40 minutes here and there and seems fine during them, it’s just his night time sleep! I read it can last for 6 weeks, I pray it doesn’t because I am shattered 🤣🤣

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡
