It was important to me to have a car seat without flame retardants, since there's some evidence of health impacts on babies exposed to the chemicals. The chicco cleartex line is the most affordable one I found, but there are others. And then the question is whether you want the infant seats that snap in and out of the base or the convertible ones that go from newborn to like 80+ pounds. I went for convertible, since I'm short and don't want to lug around a big car seat (and I'm cheap and don't want to buy another car seat in a year lol). People like the infant ones because you don't have to wake up the baby to get them in and out of the car, but you're not supposed to let them sleep unsupervised or stay more than 2 hours in a car seat anyway, so I figured potentially waking the baby up is a good trade off for me.

Thank you! I was leaning more towards a convertible so this really helped! I'm short as well and it seems like it would be really bulky to lug around a car seat. What did you use to carry the baby in and out of the car seat? a baby wrap?

@Roop that's my plan! I haven't had the baby yet, but I think I'll put the baby wrap on before leaving the house, so that when we need to get in and out of the car I don't have to fiddle with a bunch of fabric

Join a baby safe car seat group on fb if you can. In the group, you can tell them what kind of car you have and will support you in finding the best car seat and how to support your baby with safety in the car.

@Kathleen thank you! that sounds like something l will do as well!

thank you good idea! I'll definitely look into it!
