He will be 1 next Friday and y'all I don't know what to do. We have been sleeping training for the last 3 days. I felt bad tonight and we tried getting him to sleep. 35 min in and he wouldn't go to sleep for us. I finally got frustrated and put him in his crib. He cried for maybe 3 minutes and then fell asleep 6 min in at 4 hr and 14 minutes. The last few nights he cried off and on for 35 minutes before sleeping. (We are trying to do ferber, so we check in but check ins rile him up more) we also have coslept his whole life so thats why we were gonna cut back on the night time ones. Is his wake window too long?? We were doing 3.5-4 hrs but I don't know what to do anymore. He is still on 2 naps, do I cut them to an hour each?

My 9 month olds last wake window is 4 hours. He may need more play before bed if he was fighting that hard and more sleep pressure.

I'm wondering if we drop a nap but that is risky at 11 months!

Just leave him in there. It won’t hurt him. The check in are doing more harm. And if you keep picking him up when he cries he won’t learn to deal with his emotions himself.

@Sofia He can't do pick up put down either. It riles him up but we are against CIO. Mentally I can't fight him getting him to sleep. He physically fights us

@Jennifer babies don't need to learn to deal with their emotions. We don't pick him up. We go in to comfort and check in.

Sounds rough, and I’ve absolutely been there… hang in there! ❤️
Fwiw my baby is around the same age as yours, and we finally got her on a good rhythm of sleeping recently (after a pretty bad stretch of her waking up several times every night - we wanted to pull her hair out!).
Some things that helped:
- Longest wake window before bed, as other folks have mentioned too!
- Making sure she was eating enough during the day (our sweet spot turned out to be 3 meals and 3 bottles with the occasional snack, but you’ll find what’s right for your little one!)
- Making sure her last meal of the day was a big, hearty one (meat and/or carb-heavy)
- Topping up her last/bedtime bottle with formula, because it takes longer to digest than breast milk… I really think this helped her sleep through the night
- Turn a heater on near her bed to make things extra cozy for her and help her fall asleep. We have ours on a timer for 30mins. A heated magic bag, etc. in their crib beforehand can also help

*we wanted to pull OUR hair out, not hers 😂😅🙈 it’s too cute to pull out, even when she won’t sleep

Hope some of this helps!
We found it helpful to try one new thing every night/day in addition to sleep training methods, so we could generally know what worked/worked best.
It turned out to be a combo of these things, and even though they sound like a lot, they do become second nature and part of your overall routine sooner than you might think!
